Bad How I got $700 stolen from me (CaptainFuzzy / TacticalEdge8541)

Glad to see almost a dozen people have called the LEO in his area, although im sure there are dozens more victims out there, if anyone can get a hold of any of them within other groups or forums that would be superb, As I mentioned before, his local Law Enforcement knows exactly who he is and what hes up to, at least judging by the phone calls I have made it was obvious within a few seconds. I have a feeling Mr. Dorf is going to get what he deserves. And I second the idea of any donations going into any legal actions against him if necessary.

:/ Friends and Family.... Stupid I know. Live and learn!

A lot of people fall for that before they realize that paying for goods and services is the way to go with PayPal transactions. On another hobby forum of mine, they actually have warnings posted everywhere not to use the friends and family gift option because of how often people get ripped off with that.

Not using F&F has been discussed on BF's over and over and over again, there's a sticky in GBU about it, there's a warning in the Exchange rules about it... yet some members will still persist in using F&F just to save a few dollars

It is close to a mantra here.
Most of these threads are started by someone who has either paid FF or payed in full up front.

Good to hear. I guess some people just have to learn on their own the hard way.

I just revisited the Rules thread stickied at the top of this page, and the text currently reads thus:

Warning: You as a buyer are responsible for using Paypal as it was intended, according to their Terms of Service. Using the "Gift" option revokes any buyer protection you may have if something goes wrong and makes it easier to get scammed. Be smart and protect yourself, if you use gift and get scammed don't come crying to us about it as you've already been advised.

Perhaps "or Friends and Family" should be added after the word "Gift," so it's clearly spelled out that the FF option also forfeits recourse?

(My apologies if this is already clearly stated in a more prominent place.)

And, as noted repeatedly, using F&F for a sale cheats PayPal, who I detest, out of the the agreed fee for services. Avoid stiffing
PayPal and you are protected. When a seller asks for F&F - or "gift," I move along. Too many honest sellers to need to do business with a petty cheat.

That seems like a good idea, since paypal changed from calling it Gift payment to Friends and Family.

People who pay by F&F, get scammed and then post about it should have to wear the Avatar of Shame

While using F&F is not the brightest thing to do, what you suggest would have a chilling effect on people reporting others who rip them off. The last thing I want is to get ripped off by someone who has been at it for awhile, but I did not know about it because nobody reported it because they did not want to wear the "Avatar of Shame" as you call it. Frankly, that they are a victim of their own <greed, stupidity, generosity, lack of common sense, etc., just pick one...> is probably enough of a "lesson".

Let's keep this on topic
Hashing out Paypal friends and family or gift has been argued ad nauseum here.
We already know that using these types of payment terms are violating the TOS of paypal.

Edited my comment to not draw the thread off course.
Sorry folks.

Frank,
Saw your comment after I posted.

The more people who call the more likely they are to act. In this small town I don't see why they wouldn't act anyway, however the more people that call and report the bigger picture it will paint for them.

Obviously only people who were scammed should call.
