If you could only have ONE GEC, which would it be?

I only have three. a 56 in ebony, a 72 in ebony and an 81 Abilene Stock in osage orange. Out of them as well as the rest of the collection the 81 stockman hits my pocket daily. If they made the 81 in ebony I would buy it. My only pet peeve I have with GEC is that they don't make their cam tangs as smooth opening as the old time knife companies. Maybe they've fixed it by now but it doesn't stop me from buying their knives. With that said, having the Abilene stock keeps me from buying more knives as it fills my needs as a tool and an obsession.GEC, Please make an Ebony 81 Stockman!

Here ya go, and it's gorgeous! Oh and it's African Blackwood not Ebony. Not sure if they made them in Ebony but this Blackwood is REALLY nice!

Great Eastern #828314 Dixie Stock Knife, with maroon linen micarta scales & carbon steel blades. I've been moving away from the standard Stockman patterns with the high sheepfoot blade profile (when closed), but the blade configuration on this pattern is perfect: long slender clip (Turkish clip?) blade, secondary drop point Skinner & Wharncliffe blades. Feels perfect in hand, no matter what blade is used.

I keep hoping for a new round of these. Was fortunate to get this one on the exchange. They are really the perfect size and blade combo.

I've actually already whittled it down to just one:

92 Eureka Jack Spear point in green micarta.

I'm sure there's something saw cut in my future though.

Thanks rbeggs. I'm keeping with the Tidioute line. I just like the simple or plain styling. The 81 is really hard to find, I wish GEC would make more stockman's. May be time for a new style like an old Rem with exaggerated dogleg scales and a high sheepsfoot.

Holy heck Mr. Chips! That is really cool! I kick myself for not getting a Grinling just about everyday.

As for me, I have a few that I really like but the only GEC I vowed to never sell is my #48 Buckeye Trapper.

Ran across this older thread while looking for a few things. Wondering what shield is that on this 48? Also curious if anyone that posted here before has changed there mind since their post? I'm usually not a big fan of the "one knife" threads, but there's some good pictures here to look at - so bumping it up

Yep that's a Chris Tenney SFO, with grand ole Oh as the shield. I think it looks quite handsome on there, kinda like a federal shield.

Was this his most recent SFO? From what I can tell he used to do some SFO's with Queen too, but don't see much online over the past few years.

Decisions, decisions. Not sure I could pare it down to one but if there were a gun to my head, I guess it would have to be the 48 Improved Trapper.

Inched out by a whisper is the 77 Washington Jack.

The good 'ole Beer Scout : great main blade, handy top lifter and screw driver and bail. For me function trumps fashion and i favor the illuminescence of Nifebright for if and when i am a fumble finger.

Despite my love for the 77 Barlow... If I had to choose ONE it would be a very special one which was a gift from Scott ("qcygnnr") back in May of '14. The #66 Calf Roper stockman (one of Charlie's most awesome SFO's). From what I was told only 7 of these were made with this color bone. The jigging is one Charlie picked out also.

To me, the Stockman pattern is a whole lotta knife in such a small package. Three blades on tap and each is unique to the other. At 3.5" OAL it's a wonderful little companion that could easily serve me the rest of my days.
