If you had to take one knife to war

I don't know (perhaps something more reliable) but it is not an answer to the question asked.

The title of this thread is: If you had to take one knife to war;

the question asked is: If you had to take 1 folder and 1 fixed blade knife to war what would it be?

Calm down kid...
It's only the Internet...

I'm pretty sure there's a fixed blade in my picture:rolleyes:

Assuming the knives won't make it home, a DPx Gear HEFT6 and a Swiss Army Ranger. Otherwise a Busse ASH1 and a Swisstool RS.

Leatherman Supertool 300
Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works Mini-Persian

If you had to take 1 folder and 1 fixed blade knife to war what would it be ;)
I would pick a cold steel gurkha kukri
And a cold steel xl espada

Manix XL because it's a great slicer however I feel it's also a little more strongly made than a para 2
Becker bk3

Ok ok, I don't want to be labeled a schmartazz, so I'll play... That being said, I believe rifles first and foremost. Your pistol should be used only in emergencies, or for fighting your way back to your rifle. Knives should be a last resort, or for utility. I'm also only taking into account knives I own. If this was a "what 2 grails would you choose that you don't currently own" things would get a lot more interesting. Now that that's out if the way:

Fixed - Busse Basic 9:

Folder - Al Mar Sere 2K/Varga Vesper (tie):

And, yes, I'm aware the Basic 9 isn't exactly a "fighting knife", and that it's a dedicated chopper. If somebody got close enough for me to use it, I don't think they'd be debating the issue.

Fighting Knife-I would say a TGLB. The folder would be a Leatherman Surge with bit kit in a sheath by Skinth Solutions.

I would take a leatherman and the fixed blade would depend on what I thought most useful. Impedimenta is best kept at a minimum.

I assumed automatically that the "one knife" from the OP is meant for utility and not fighting, since we don't fight wars with knives anymore

I assume that if you "go to war" you already have a lot of issued stuff to carry around, including a rifle.

I assumed that the OP meant that we could pick anything, so I picked knives I don't own and which I thought would be sort of ideal for war (i.e. not too long and cumbersome, not too heavy, not too brittle and sharpenable in the field) with the one caveat that they don't get stolen.

Since I live in the center of socialist and crowded Amsterdam, the capital of The socialist and crowded Netherlands (aka Holland) I don't have much use for a fixed blade. On top of that, since a couple of years it is forbidden to carry any "sharp object" on your person (so I'm already taking a risk EDC'ing a Military and a SAK on my person and a Juice S2 and a S&W HRT knife in my jacket anyway).

Anyway, from what I own, I probably would take this:

At the moment, I'd probably choose my EK Comando Bowie or Kabar BK-15 and Vic SAK (Adenturer). Chances are that I wouldn't carry a fixed blade at all. Ask me again tomorrow and I'll change my mind.

A multi tool and any knife made in the USA that you don't mind loosing. A knife is really not used much and you get tired of lugging a big blade around. Been there done that.

Not going to war unless it's in my front yard, but a strider folder would be in my pocket for sure.

Of the knives I've owned, I'd take my Ratmandu and my Military. That should cover about everything I'd need. I'm surprised no one has said the Ratmandu yet.

+1 to that.

During a decade of service i did allways carry a Buck 110 and a large SAK. When on wheels, in addition a machete or a light axe. My choise of today would be something like the one abowe.

I wouldn't take my ZT0561, as tough as it is those bearings will get dirty VERY quick in the sandbox.
For a fixed I would probably take my Benchmade Nimcub 2. It's pretty light and not so huge that it's cumbersome.
Folder would be my newly acquired Grayman Satu. That thing is a tank, and I have no doubt it will do anything I need it to.

A Vintage fiskars made "accessory"....

My folder would be a ZT0350, maybe a 300, but probably not. The fixed blade... would change day to day, haha. But I'll assume I have a rifle, to narrow it down a little. Now there's still half a dozen choices.... My ESEE 4, just because it's new and I've still got that new knife boner for it :)

I would choose either the Grayman Satu, the Grayman Dua, or the Tops Mil Spie 3.5. Never owned any of them but I've drooled over all three for untold hours online. Please note that i say one of these three knives would be my pick but for utility tasks only unless in an emergency i.e. M4 ran dry or damaged and sidearm ran dry/malfunctioned and it was the totally last-ditch option.
