I'm Glad I Already Have Mags

And to stay on topic a little, what the heck is a "pmag?" That's a new one to me. Guess I've been living under a rock lately as far as guns go.

Polymer magazine made by Magpul. They make 20 and 30rounders for the AR-15, 20 Rounders for .308s like CMMG, Sig, Rock River, POF, DPMS, etc. (I think they work in Armalite but have heard some reports that they dont), and I think they make HK mags. They make then in all different dangerous colors with dangerous features like having a window in them to see how many rounds of dangerous ammo you have left.

Anyway, 15msrp magazine that's light weight, works, tacticool looking, and supposed to be cheap are now going for over $50 a pop.

EDITED: A particular offer of a new AWB will be introduced as early as January and is probably not keeping demand or supply down.

http://www.feinstein.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/assault-weapons

Summary:

Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
120 specifically-named firearms
Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds

Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans

Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.

Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons

Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
Background check of owner and any transferee;
Type and serial number of the firearm;
Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

I'm assuming gun owners will somehow be on the hook for funding that last part about the ATF.

I removed her name. All better. Still is probably a motivating factor as to why you can't get mags, or get them for sane prices.

This is the part that just blows me away! I don't think most of you guys on here realize what an NFA registered firearm entails. The NFA is for registered fully automatic weapons, short barreled rifles and suppressors, it's the most stringent regulatory firearms agency in the country. And they even want to put pistols like Glocks on this list. Be ready to fill out a form every time you want to take a trip to another state with your Glock or high cap pistol and about a four month to who knows how long to receive approval. My point is forget the magazines who the H wants that type of aggravation.

No, don't forget the magazines. Give them an inch and they will take a mile. Don't be naive thinking it wil stop with magazines.

I don't think you realize this has ZERO chance of passing. Heck, it wouldn't even make it through the Democratic controlled Senate to get to the House. And all know even if it did it would never get through the House.

She is farther to the left than anyone in the Senate, and all know nothing she comes up with will happen. Why people are worried about this bill really baffles me:confused:

Don't forget Short barreled shotguns, destructive devices, and AOWs.

I can't even picture the waiting time of ATF on NFA items if this cr@p gets passed. My tax stamp took just shy of 6 months, and they're already flooded.

To get fingerprinted, passport photo'd, and having your sheriff, chief deputy, judge, etc. (unless you trust it) sign off on it EVERY time. I cringe at the freaking thought.

Interesting times we have here, with a whole lot of stupid going on.

I would hope it would not pass. I read a part of the upcoming ban to be introduced that they would have to be registered with the ATF at a 200.00 per gun tax. They can not be transferred and upon the owners death they would become property of the government.
This scares me to death. If something with wording like this passed you may as well burn the constitution and run the hammer and sickle up the flag pole. I saw someone who posted on facebook after the election that they were taking their flag down,I posted that it is not the flags fault and the better thing to do would be turn it upside down. If something like what I was reading the other night made it into law I might have a hard time flying the flag and that is something very hard for me to think about much less say. If it does not pass I will have some faith again that there are some leaders in Washington watching out for our rights.
If this got to political please tell me and i will delete.

I predict a renewed interest in NFA Trusts to get around the arbitrary whims of the local Chief LEO requirements and to allow of pseudo transfer of guns to other members of the trust. Don't tell the congress-critters or they will start referring to it as the "NFA Trust loophole". Trust lawyers probably love this idea.

It is getting a little political in here and this subject has at least one thread over in the PA. Please keep it OP (off politics) in this forum. :)

I will say that now is a great time to let your elected reps know where you stand if you haven't already done so.

2 things I heard last night and today that didn't make the news in my state...

My Mom who lives in Roanoke, VA. heard on her local news that several schools or school districts in the area are offering, or getting ready to offer firearms training and seem to be gearing up to allow teachers to carry in the classroom. She may have mis-heard, but I did find this article in the Roanoke Times from Dec. 19th (link below) stating the VA's Gov is open to the idea of teachers carrying:

And this:

http://hardnoxandfriends.wordpress.c...ater-shooting/

On Sunday December 17, 2012, 2 days after the CT shooting, a man went to a restaurant in San Antonio to kill his X-girlfriend. After he shot her, most of the people in the restaurant fled next door to a theater. The gunman followed them and entered the theater so he could shoot more people. He started shooting and people in the theater started running and screaming. It’s like the Aurora, CO theater story plus a restaurant!

Now aren’t you wondering why this isn’t a lead story in the national media along with the school shooting?

There was an off duty county deputy at the theater. SHE pulled out her gun and shot the man 4 times before he had a chance to kill anyone. So since this story makes the point that the best thing to stop a bad person with a gun is a good person with a gun, the media is treating it like it never happened.

Only the local media covered it. The city is giving her a medal next week.

Hmmm...

I would hope it would not pass.
This scares me to death.

Don't be one bit scared. That bill won't pass, and I would bet anyone money that it won't. Don't get fooled by the hype of others, or certain news outlets.

I heard that before....in 93....

The bill they are talking about is nothing like that one. Some of it is posted above if you want to read it. Its also in the PF.

I've read it. It will pass piece by piece unless the repubs in DC grow a backbone. The NFA part will likely not happen, when that time comes, there will be no grandfathering and no sunset.

unless the repubs in DC grow a backbone.

If the ones in the current congress grew more of a backbone their spines would be made of INFI:p

I know I'm being a little Political(sorry), but everyone that post in it is now, and this thread will stay that way IMO.

Jaxx, I read your post, and I sure hope our teachers don't start carrying. With close to 100,000 public schools we have many teachers out there that would not be carefull enough with their guns, or make sure they never get in the wrong hands. And a few out there have mental problems themselves.
I would like to see a well trained police officer at every school. Not sure we can afford that though. I would be willing to pay more in tax for it.

I loaded up on everything AR and AK related after the last interference with my rights ended, so I'm sitting pretty. Let this be a lesson. I don't foresee another ban in the short-term, as there are still some American's left in the House of Representatives who won't abide by it. But when the dust settles someday, buy what you can while the sun still shines.

I would be willing to pay more in tax for it.

I would be willing to cut spending elsewhere to pay for it.

Ken, the teachers that would be carrying are the same people that carry everywhere else in their daily lives. There will not be many teachers that run out and get CHLs because they now can. It's the same response I give re: college students carrying. It would be the same students that are already carrying everywhere else. They're not going to randomly lose their minds and whip it out in class or be any more careless about it.

I carry a handgun everywhere I legally can, I've carried machine guns and explosives on 3 continents, the State of Texas trusted me enough to license me as a peace officer. At what point did become untrustworthy?

I don't believe Jaxx (or anyone for that matter) is implying that teachers should be forced to carry if they don't want to. I for one am in favor of a law-abiding and responsible teacher being there to protect my children. We trust them to teach our kids and keep them safe, yet we don't trust them to carry a firearm?
And if there are teachers with serious mental health problems; what are they doing still teaching? We as a society have to quit being so hyper-sensitive to everyone's feelings.
