Personally, I do not appreciate the comment by 1whobuys, calling all the folks at the OSF pussies. There's no excuse for name calling, and ignoring that remark actually encourages such childish behavior. If I were to blatantly insult all the members of this forum would that also be ignored? Seems like a double standard to me.
Jerry, I believe the OSF knife that you posted a pic of and mocked, is going to be a awesome outdoor survival knife. The size and design is perfect for the two uses that most true woodsman survival knives are used for: butchering game and woodwork. It has a Scandinavian (no secondary bevel) grind. The Scandi grind has proven itself for centuries by folks who use woodsman knives everyday in the frigid Northern woods of Europe. The OSF knives are being made out of a variety of steels and if the comments of serious outdoor survival professionals like Ray Mears mean anything, then the primary use of a knife is to cut with. The OSF knife will cut like there's no tomorrow. At 5/32 of an inch thick, 01 tool steel or CPM S30V will also prove to be incredibly tough and can actually be used to pry with. Not that thicker knives like many of yours won't cut; they will. However it doesn't take a degree in rocket science to know that thin blades slice much better than sharpened pry bars. I have noticed that you are constantly revising your knife designs, and you are to be commended for that. Serious woodsmen, unlike armchair commandos, generally buy and actually use their knives. Historically, woodsmen have generally preferred thinner blades that actually cut and are affordable. I can see even you are beginning to reevaluate your knife designs and as a result have come out with thinner bladed models lately.
To slam or mock the OSF, it's members or the OSF knife designed with input from the woodsmen who frequesnt the OSF is really unecessary and uncalled for. It makes absolutely no sense to me to compare your "combat" knives with woodsman knives. Nor does it make sense to compare this forum with any outdoor survival forum since both are unique and have their place and respective following.
It seems to me that the guys here are ganging up on Jimbo and that is a shame. He makes a lot of sense to me. His remarks are very true in that it is not the tool but the individual's skills that really matter in a survival situation. To jump all over him (or anyone else) for stating their personal opinion does seem like insecurity to me. I believe the bottom line is that Busse Combat makes good knives for their intended purpose; but then so do many other factories. Diversity and competition in the marketplace is a great thing, but attacking or mocking those who have differing opinions or products than yourself is a sad thing to witness and will keep many from ever purchasing a Busse knife.
