Intros all around

Hey WoodenChicken, I'd be glad to talk martial arts anytime! I have degrees in 4 different styles and have dabbled in many more. I hear you about the trash talking on martial arts forums it is silly. I even tend to avoid the Prac Tac here on BF with some of the crazy threads over there.

Big Mike,

Is that a Blackjack Maringer Vorpal short sword I see?

DancesWithKnives

That is actually one of the coveted BRK&T Northwinds.

Ya I forgot to mention. I trained in Tae Kwon Do for 10 years.

Here's my trash talk.

I went to a REAL school. In 10 years I made it up to black stripe. It wasn't one of those strip mall schools where you can get a black belt in a year or less. We worked out butts off and took home almost every trophy at every tournament we went to. In order to qualify for testing for my black stripe, I had to sit barefooted in the snow for half an hour "meditating". Slowly getting frostbite..... sucks.

:) Good times though. If nothing else, I've yet to ever be beat on that carnival game where you punch the flip down punching bag and it tells you how hard you hit it. lol. "I may be ugly... I may be dumb... but watch me hit this punching bag game thing."

I hear that. We scoff at the McDojos. I require our upper level students to visit other schools for insight and inspiration. They have to present their learned info in front of the class. Not for us to puff up like peacocks about how superior we are, just to learn what else is out there being taught and how. NOTHING replaces years of sweat. I will forever be a student.

Ok sorry about the thread drift. In my own thread no less! hahahaha

Im Jason, as of this week I am 25, as of next month I have been married a year. In february I will be having a son. My wife tolerates my gear obsession and that makes things so much easier. I am a full time college student studying to be a history teacher, and I am the night manager at a local restaurant/bar. When I was younger we spent weeks at a time out long the red river in north Texas. I still spend at least a weekend a month out in the winter, and usually 3 or 4 out in the summer, but it is tough to find places to go here in Wichita Kansas. I usually have to drive a couple of hours but hey its worth it right? When I am out I usually try to stay current on my survival skills. There is something very soothing and calming about being out in the silence and solitude of the woods. I miss the woods of the Red River outside of Gainesville texas quite a bit, but I make it back on occasion. Hell I lost my first pocket knife out there.

What's up Rockywolf
Yes I've trained now for close to 25 years, and respect all styles and systems. But don't get me started on a MMA rant! I've been taught (and try to teach) that a person should not only have an empty cup, but should hold the cup down low enough that someone higher can put something in.
There is always someone who knows more, and the opportunities to learn are there.
Now, here's my face to go with the name. BTW, since I think I have this camera thing going now, everyone can expect a lot of bad photography of my knives and fires and such.

Here's my attempt at a cool knife photo, sorry if I've derailed this thread. I'm just giddy about finally being about to put up photos! Forgive my lack of skill.

Nice transport there, Major. I don't remember stuff like that when I was in :D.

21 years of service... You were shining up that butter bar about the time I got out, you could have been my LT.

21 years, you, ummm, 'rock'. Thanks for the service.

Great thread! Nice to see some faces with the names!

My name is Matt, I'm 35, former Marine, currently a 911 Dispatcher, married with two kids, 3.5 yo daughter and a 1 yo son. My wife is awesome, although she doesn't fully understand my obsession with knives or my interest in survival...no one is perfect I guess! :p I'm not married to Jake's wife nor can I shoot lighning bolts out of my arse...I can sometimes manage some thunder though!;)
I like to hunt, fish, be outdoors, and make knives...all as time allows, which hasn't been very much the last couple of years. Hopefully gonna change that this spring...my daughter told me the other day that she wants to go on "an adventure". I told her that we can certainly make that happen! Time for the nature walks/woods learnin' to start!

Anyway, here is a pic of me , my wife Nikki and daughter Kaylee. That is not my house in the background...that is one of those Extreme Home Makeover homes we were watching them build while in Minn. visiting some relatives.

Here's a current knife project that I hope to finish after I finish my Christmas Exchange knife.

Theres quite a few of us in this area dude. I like in Sedalia MO, which isnt to far. We should try a midwest gathering again.

This thread is a dang good idea! It's pretty cool to put faces to some of the names around here. I'll even throw mine out there, though this is about the only picture of myself I've got on my computer. The saddle I found a couple of years ago under the rock behind me, along with a pair of jeans, at the base of the bookcliffs. A buddy and I went back this year and tracked the saddle down, though it took 3 full day trips to find it again. I tried to find a pic that showed my skinny side, but...

I'm 30, work on a drilling rig half the year, and make knives when I'm at home. No wife, no kids, no pets, but I do have a killer girlfriend that like to hike and camp (when it's warm, at least!). I make knives, take pictures, hike and camp on my days off, and I can't think of a better place to do it all than where I'm at now. I grew up here in Moab, and after almost a decade away I moved back.

Nice to meet y'all,

Walter

Guess I should chime into this one too! Cool thread.

My name is Will Stewart and I'm a pharmacy student in Kentucky. I'm a pharmacy intern to pay the bills. Married to my best friend, the prettiest nurse around. We have one hilarious pooch. I'd have a million hobbies but school takes up a disproportionate amount of my time! I like to read (some fiction, history, philosophy), watch movies with my wife, shoot, camp/hike/backpack. Obviously chatting and bush stuff and blades is a bit of a passion too. :D

I'm 23 and my real name is Chris. While I've been a member for a while, I just recently really started visiting and posting. I live in South Eastern Michigan (Detroit area), but my true home is Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I'm currently persuing a masters in Biomedical Science while applying to medical school. To pay the bills I work in a doctor's office and I'm the pool director at a private club in Detroit. I enjoy hunting and shooting sports (just wish I had more time), camping, hiking, sailing, canoeing, fishing, off roading and cooking. Cooking both in modern kitchens and in the field are true hobbies of mine, and anyone who's eaten my food seems to think I know a thing or two, or are amazed at what I managed to cook up with limited supplies while afield. Hunting and fishing for me are mainly about just being in the great outdoors, I really don't care if I take any game.
I dabble a little in geocaching, but it mostly just serves as motivation to get people who aren't as interested in just being outside to come along with me. The urban micros and park and grab type caches do nothing for me, I like the caches that involve nice hikes through scenic territory (sadly enough, not many of these in my area). I have a six year old german shepherd who loves being outdoors as much as I do and serves as a constant companion in all my outdoor pursuits.
I like nothing better than sitting around a campfire after a long day in the woods, enjoying a little scotch or irish whisky with some good company. I'm currently at work, so I don't have any pictures at the moment.
