My bk2 broke under the scales!! WTH!

Fixed it for you:D
Oh probably wont, but it still be interesting none the less!

Yes, and the guy has gone out of his before, time and again for users of his knives! GREAT man, even greater than "The most interesting man in the world".

HAHA! Careful though. Revising someone's post is an infraction outside W&C! I know. I got dinged for doing that once myself. :(

To underscore what you said, though, I'd say he definitely qualifies to be considered the most interesting man in the world. I had an opportunity to speak with him at length one-on-one at a SHOT Show a few years back and it's a memory I cherish.

I just heard from customer service. As anyone should expect, they seem ver professional, and expressed regret that my knife broke, and they want me to ship it to them right away so that they can inspect it. I should be able to get it off to them sometime tomorrow, as I'll have to get some loose money together to pay for it.

Wow I never knew that editing could get you an infraction, thanks for the heads up. I see people doing it literally every day LOL

Its been awhile since I got a Chiclet as rev calls them:D

But I agree on Ethan, hard to beat a guy who REALLY loves his knives he makes as well as knives in general, and is so active in the knife community.

Several knife makers now a days make knives as a business decision, and don't share the passion we do. Its refreshing when guys like Ethan are one of us.

I do believe a "FTFY" doesn't really get you dinged. At least not around here... As long as it isn't TOO far off topic. Which that didn't seem to be, to me. I definitely agree though, Boss man is a hell of a guy!

On-Topic, OP sorry your knife broke. Sometimes shit happens, but be glad this happened in a controlled situation and not when you were REALLY counting on the blade.

More interesting thing to me in those photos of the breaks is the grain structure. Looks fine on the handle side, but there's some apparent discoloration that could be evidence of larger grains on the blade side. I'd like to see more closeup pics of the break also.

Now, for all of you talking about "indestructible," that sorta presumes that you're using it in the intended manner. There are lots of things that will last for years if properly used, but break in an instant if misused. That being said, my personal guess is that Ka-bar will replace this one.

This thread has me thinking..........whatever it takes I guess ;)

Stripped coatings, forced patinas, paracord wrapping, etc. is SO last year. The NEW uber cool Becker mod should be magnafluxing! :D

Hey JT.....

I will be getting in touch with Ka-Bar as soon as I get out of the Doctor's office...... Should not have happened....... It did happen, sorry about the problem and sorry that it took me so long to respond...... Should not have gone to bed without checking in......

Thank you for getting in touch with KaBar by email and thank you for the clear photos ....... Not much doubt that there was a transition zone fracture....... T'is rare but it has happened before....... It has been Ka-Bar practice to leave the tangs soft so that the tang will bend before blade failure........ Almost always works out.......

My apologies......

We will fix it.....

Ethan

P.s. I always try to pick clear bolts to baton with a knife....... Burn the knotty stuff whole...... It saves stress and sweat on you as well as your knife... E

Oh man,
I am sooooo glad to have you chime in sir! 😃
I know you stand 102% behind your blades/designs, and thats very encouraging to me.
And as for only trying to split clear sections of wood, LOUD AND CLEAR! As I've said before, there's not a whole lot to me (knife related), that is as stress laden as dealing with a broken high-quality knife.
I am so glad to hear that it is more than likely due to a transition in the heat treat, and not just me or the log.
I'll do my best to get it in the mail tomorrow.
Thank you sir!
P.s. Hope all is well at the Dr's office!

What a great company, and what a great guy Ethan is.

And THIS ladies and gentleman, is a ringing endorsement for Kabar and EB himself if ever there was one.

As I expected.

Yeah, it's not exactly surprising. People love to justify certain other brands their warranty, on paper is better than Kabar. (You know the ones I'm talking about)

But damn if Kabar doesn't go above and beyond for their customers. The warranty in practice is definitely an example of "under promise and over deliver."
