New Forum software thread. . .

I noticed my old bookmarks ceased to function, I had to make new ones. Does this mean that intraforum links in old threads will all be broken now?

We're working on that issue right now. There's a problem with the mod rewrite rules on the server

I cant see to tipe this my eyes are screenburned - too much white! Can't we change the color somehow as an option.

Also forum home page has everything mashed together with blobby looking commas in stead of the old and very effective "list" method.

appreciate the upgrade, new software is better.
But being in the software business myself and doing a lot upgrade trajectories, I cannot help but wonder why this upgrade is so painful. Any reason why things weren't implemented and tested before upgrading the software?

It's when I hit "what's new" .Here's the link

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/search.php?searchid=5726

I just cut & pasted the address after I clicked on "what's new".
It may not show up since its considered a search.
I get this. I see the thread title, replies, last post time, and forum it's on when I click the What's New link above.

I get that with a standard registered user profile as well.

Other skins and subforum organization is on the list of things to get done. I might have to start another thread for User Interface suggestions & Issues.

We don't have multiple test servers with a dedicated development environment, much as I'd like to. Our configuration ran into problem after problem after problem that required manual compiling of kernel distros instead of the more traditional "install package, problem solved" and we're still tweaking things. I've learned long ago that nothing comes easy when it comes to BladeForums.com

Is there anyway to remove the FConnect at the top of the screen (next to Welcome) as well as the Like Fsign up to see what your friends like button at the end of the thread name above the OP: Thread: {Title of thread}

The reason I ask is it takes those two things a second or two longer to pop up after everything else has, basically causing a lag on my computer.

Thanks,
Mike

Quick note about the thread background color being bright white. After spending an hour trying to chase this down and change it, it turns out that this is a known issue and hasn't been resolved yet in the vB bugtracker. There is a newer release of vB scheduled out shortly, hopefully it will be handled there.

I hope that this is the right place for this. I miss the "Search Within This Forum" that used to be in the upper right of the page. I used to go to the Exchange and Search within all the different sub-groups within, or I could go to,say, For Sale By Individuals and Search within that. It made finding blades I may be interested in purchasing easier to find and it also made researching through the Groups and sub-Forums much easier. I see that this is available under "Additional Options" in Advanced Search but the older way was simpler and more intuitive. I certainly hope that this can be brought back in this new version.

I don't know if this matters but when I clicked on the "Reply to Thread" button I was prompted to enter in the "Quick Reply" box instead of another page opening as with the older version.

Thanks

Rick

As a stopgap measure for those "blinded by the white", you can always dim your monitor manually.

Works for me, though I have to re-brighten it to go to another web site.

Kevin, thanks for your work. I have to admit I like the old software better. It seemed more direct with less sub-menus necessary to get to where you want to go. Howsoever, old dogs and new tricks. You can teach 'em. It just takes longer. I'm sure I'll get used to the new software with time.

Have you ever noticed with evey "latest version or feature" be it a phone, TV remote, software etc.. there's more cr*p, harder to use, more complicated and bloated than the previous, more direct versions that are being replaced. :D

Sucks that the new web host wouldn't host the other forum. I'd have looked for a new hosting solution first but it's all water over the dam now. This is what we've got, hopefully Spark will continue to make it more organized and tolerable for us all. NO Search? didn't hear that one yet.

I said I would wait, but this is one I have not seen mentioned.

The list of recent threads is not showing which sub-forum the thread appears in. There are a few sub-forums I don't bother with and it would be nice to know where the threads are so I don't waste my time.

Can you give me the exact URL where you are seeing this?

Sure thing:

http://www.bladeforums.com/

Here is how I see the list of recent threads, I can't tell what sub-forum they are in:

Things are really looking a lot better, especially in large print mode that makes the post text stand out. Thanks for all your work, Spark.

I do wonder if, in the subforum views, those giant envelopes might be reduced in size.
I could do without them, but I suppose it is useful to know if a thread has posts you haven't read.
I could care less if a thread is trending (red) or not (blue).
My biggest issue is the wall of envelopes you see to the left of the screen, a band of images that pull your eye away from the main course--the thread titles.

Have to agree with all the above and it is looking better, very fast.

Thanks!

at the moment the BFC logo is missing from the upper left hand corner (pic below) but about 2 hours ago, on my iPhone, the logo was there.
