This is happening randomly on various posts...dunno if its a glitch or not but figured I would post it, I'm using google Chrome. Normally ads are positioned at the top of the thread so was just wondering.

Just noticed a new issue. I've lost the ability to PM registered users. Not sure if it's a glitch or just inherent to the new software, but I'm guessing if I lost it then the other forum mods probably did as well.

Are you using an ad blocker?

Mods should be able to, but I'll check

When I saw Robert.B's post, I had to go check out that customized knife...it's a beauty! ...But I saw no ads. Using IE.

Not working for me. Just tested infraction notifications via PM and they seem to be working fine though.

I logged out a bit ago and noticed the same thing happening without an adblocker on. Figured it was just me again though. :) Images are sitting on top of the new "in post" ads if they're big enough and breaking out of quote boxes.

ETA: Firefox 4

Robert.B - ads got turned on for first and last post on each page of threads, to make up for turning off skyscrapers.

Jaxx, you are a moderator, so you won't see ads

oh ok, and yeah i'm using adblock...I was just wondering if they were where they're meant to be and it wasn't a forum issue (wont matter soon anyway, buying membership).

Thanks spark.

I don't know if there are any ways to further "columnize" the forum views, but my biggest issue has to do with the really crowded feel of the subforum views.
There's a big difference between this:

And this:

The new version just crams too much information into too tight a space, and it's a lot more difficult to scan down a page and look quickly across thread titles. There's less white space that sets off the thread titles, and the additional information is nearly the same size. Also, those giant icons continually pull the eye away from the most relevant information. People read the web with a particular F-Pattern approach. A lot of research backs this up--for instance http://www.useit.com/alertbox/reading_pattern.html The current design, however, makes my eyes/brain work harder to read in this fashion and pick out titles (which line up and stand out much less neatly), and I get tired when perusing the various subforum views.

Don't know if there's anything that can be done, but it's my biggest issue with the current set-up. I've really enjoyed tinkering with some of the other stuff, and think the forum is going to be better in the long run.

That's a nice comparison shot and I agree 100%. I used to get lost for an hour or two perusing the old version, now my subscriptions are dwindling and I spend almost no time looking around, as I want to get off as soon as I can and watch a YouTube video or something about a knife instead of getting blasted with the glare and making sense of the chaos. Sorry Spark, just my opininion.

The glare isn't so much an issue as the claustrophic feel I get. One of the things I've always admired about BFC has been its streamline simplicity. And valuing content over form/bells/whistles. In this same vein, Spark held off putting ads here for the longest, and he still offers his paying members a no-ad view. That lack of clutter is something that I'd like to see make a come-back once some of the larger issues are worked out.

Big +1 for this! I'm getting used to the lay-out now and finding my way around, but those icons are too big! Anyway, thanks for all the work Spark!

FOR EVERYONE ELSE:
Subforums just got columnized on the main forums page. WOOT!!!!

The forum index looks so much neater now. Thanks!

P.S. Don't overwork yourself, Spark. You deserve a break at the weekend!

the main page with the subforums now showing for each post is great, now when the black/darker colors theme is done, it will be perfect
thanks Spark

Next to the "Quick Navigation" bar at the bottom of the page there is now a button that says "Top". Can we get that changed to "Go" like it used to be so that it takes you back to the sub-forum front page listed in the bar? It is especially useful after posting a thread.
