New Forum software thread. . .

Forum home page is much easier now. How about some wall papering the color of the robin's egg blue in your BF logo Spark? Things will be so much better when you add a contrasting background color.

I still like the old forum colors but since they're gone how about this quotation box color for the background color or just a smidge darker?

If you notice on the vBulletin forum site at the bottom left they have all kinds of color selections for the page as well as the text. Some of them are ugly as hell but you get the idea what can be available. I think eventually there will be plenty of views to suit everyone. I kinda like the look that it is now although I do feel like I have just walked in from a snow storm. :)

Looks like the only choice is black background or bright white.
I like the Halloween but the black background would get old fast.

Here is what I'm talking about. In the modified section below, it's a lot easier to trace/read a subforum view because so many words don't get in the way. "Started by," for instance, repeats needlessly all the way down the page. And I'm wondering if some of the material contained under post title could be "columnized" elsewhere. I realize that what I've done is a throwback to the old subforum view, but boy, was it easier to take in at a glance.

You are right.I was wondering what made the thread list look so cluttered but could not figure out what it was.
It would be much easier to scan the list your way.

That left side of the page just needs more white space for thread titles to do their work. Giant envelope icons could be made smaller, "Started by" could be eliminated, and the other info could be moved elsewhere. The stand-alone author beneath the title (in the three I altered above) creates an extra line which does some good work in terms of creating that white space.

I've temporarily right justified the thread author's information and page links. Let me know if that works better for you.

I am not bothered at all by what looks like crowding to you. But if the actual thread title were larger and bolder than the "started by" information, I think that would solve your problem.

Personally, I like the started by date. It's a first look at what might be a resurrected thread.

Wow!
Hard to believe something so small could make that big of a difference.

In Large Print, it looks like a move in the right direction to me.
Still though, things pile up on the right side of that column because of (a) the big font size, (b) the "Started by" text in every listing, (c) long usernames.
I don't suppose there's any way to stack some of that info or get rid of the Started by blurb? I admit I know nothing about what you can control in vBulletin.
BTW, I looked in Default view too, and everything is still left justified.

Kevin, thanks for listening and trying different things. The feedback loop here has been really encouraging.

Sadly this does look like facebook. So much for familarity being a good thing. The colors are hidious, the layout is flat, and looks like every other forum, links were broken due to changes in the design. The SQL may be better for the design of the database, but this new interface gives me a headache also. Just another reason not to renew when the time comes.

Spark, more food for thought. Like I said, I don't know how much control you have over where things can sit, but I played around a little more.
To me, the layout in the modified (Photoshopped) area below looks like a nice compromise of keeping the info and making the subforum view readable and clean.
Might require that you have an entirely new column for Started by and start date though...

To add... I just logged in through http://www.bladeforums.com instead of my usual back channels.
The forum view there looks great and does a lot of what I'm arguing for above.
Could the individual subforums eventually look like this?

I have mine set so those 2 side bars are not showing.Looks more like the old forum that way.

I think the whole change is great. Working pretty darn good for me. I only have two MINOR repeat MINOR issues and that is that I can't get the frickin green circle with a left pointing white arrow to indicate that I have a post in a thread to stay put or appear at all AND

"Next to the "Quick Navigation" bar at the bottom of the page there is now a button that says "Top". Can we get that changed to "Go" like it used to be so that it takes you back to the sub-forum front page listed in the bar? It is especially useful after posting a thread."

Take yer time Spark. I know yer a busy man. Maybe we can work it out somethime this up-coming week. If it turns out it can't be worked out, it sure as hell won't spoil anything.

Thanks for the Forum.

Yeah, but I'm talking about the subforum views. Not the main forum overview.
