Here's the thing: I hate hacking templates because once you've changed one, every time you upgrade software you have to edit it all over again. Certain things like fonts and sizes and colors are "set it and forget it" but moving things around like page numbers and stuff like that wind up being recurring changes. Multiply that by the number of templates, and the number of various styles requiring template changes, and it becomes a major undertaking. I'm not saying I won't do it, but I have higher priorities at the moment. In an ideal world, this would all be widget based so that individual widgets could be upgraded and it wouldn't affect the templates at all unless there was a major revision. As you can probably figure out, it isn't an ideal world.
