Bad Nocturnal Knives Order

I think he will eventually send it. And even if it got "lost" in the mail, what are the chances of something be lost that you are sending to the one person that you "can't" refund via PayPal? Those are pretty crazy odds.

Haha. Even after saying I didn't want it, just my refund he said he is sending it anyway (supposedly).

Insult to injury. If you actually get the knife it will be a small miracle or a total disaster depending on how you interpret it.

Back in my Marine Corps days I would have reacted a bit different to all of this, but I've cooled off quite a bit since those days. Now I'm more stubborn and persistent on things.

But hell, the Army is PCSing my wife and me to Puerto Rico, so if I do get it, it can find some scuba gear (yes yes I know, a Marine married to a soldier and an officer at that, she hears about it constantly)

I must say you do have a good attitude about all this. This situation is a dichotomy of shorts as old gene seems to be the opposite of you. I hear you on the wife thing. I followed mine across the country.

I'd sooner eat my own poop than own something from this tool.

I was once out in the desert with about 30 detainee's (it's a very long story). I had to resort to either drink my own urine, or possibly not make it out alive...I drank 2 cups of my own piss; it's a miracle that I'm actually alive today, to talk about it. :D As for your suggestion- I'd rather have one of Gene's knife! ;)

Off topic: You're going to love Puerto Rico, Adian! I was stationed at Roosevelt Roads (actually Camp Moscrip Seabees base). We lived literally right next to a beautiful white sandy beach. Every weekend, we had a bus that would take us up to San Juan, which was always a blast.

Definitely get some scuba gear before you leave, & maybe a Spyderco H-1 Pacific Salt. FWIW- I don't think Gene's Nocturnal knives, would hold up in the extreme conditions, of a place like Puerto Rico. ;)

Edit: Thank you, Adian, (& also your wife), for your service to our Country!:thumbup:

Almost sounds like a "Knife" Ponzi Scheme. Put a few knives out there for PR. Take some orders. For every 1 in 10 dollars that come in, splash some more PR (whether product or "buddy" reviews). Eventually people start screaming. The one who makes the most noise, may get some of the "cut" from a new order. Ultimately, "usually", the entire project is always bankrupt.

So anything that happens, product or refund, occurs only when new sucker buys in. Many will chalk it up to a bad experience and write it off. Some will scream and fight. And most will inevitably discover that per PayPal rules, after 60 days a normal refund cannot happen without again paying fees (or gifting money back....like that would ever happen). After six (or ten or twelve) months, PayPal doesn't put much credence in the buyers story because they waited so long to come forward with a complaint.

Sad story all the way around. Hope everyone gets their due. But the historical events appear as if someone will be screwed in the end.

My g'pa was a sea bee at Roosevelt Roads back in the Korean War. We are going to be at Aquadilla area, not far from Rincon and some of the best diving on the island. We go to PR once a year, my wife is from there

In all honesty though, I think Gene will send it out to me. Kinda reminds me of a new crew of infantry guys we would get in. All hung ho when things were easy, but as soon as it got real they shit down and start to crumble. Some fight their way back others never do.

I think gene was doing fine to start then as the orders grew he couldn't keep up. Then another issue arose and it snowballed. Instead of communicating early and often he waited until the issue grew and blew up. He shut down instead of stepping up.

I am glad to say that I just received the tracking number for my refund. It will be here Monday.

dgrant, no I was not in for the folders, I had an HBAR pending

Yea I'm just happy to have the ordeal (hopefully) over with.

Man I'm glad you are finally getting made whole, hopefully. Even to the last Gene made sure he lied to you a couple more days, at least he is consistent.

Glad you hooked up with Skike, most makers are the opposite of Gene. We don't use customers money for our own greedy personal needs. Most of us only take deposits for materials and that money is used ONLY for materials. We wait to the end to get paid. In my case I have some customers that insist on paying up front so just in case something happens their knife is taken care of. In those cases I leave that money in a separate holding account that is not touched until I finish their knife and they have it and are satisfied. Most of the makers I know do the same thing.

I'm still in disbelief that Gene thinks none of this is his fault, just bad circumstances...

Yea I always thought it was weird when I ordered from Busse that they would charge a dollar and then the rest when it was ready to ship. Now I totally understand their reasoning for it.

I hope he learned a good lesson from it. In this day of connectivity, customer service and communication is even more important because bad experiences can reach a larger population than in days past and have a larger impact on a business. Especially in the knife world that is such a small family.

I will say he was never impolite when he did communicate with me. But the follow through was missing.

But the whole ordeal "should" be over tomorrow if I can get it cashed (supposed to be a money order). End to end, (I tried to go back and look for my first post asking for a refund on IG but it was all deleted) the process took over 2 months!

Weird, got a notice from the PO saying they were going to deliver today. Didn't know the Post Office delivered on Sunday

I've seen it done a lot with Amazon orders. Maybe someone a few houses from you got something Sunday delivery and they decided to do whatever was in the bin.
