Olsen OK knives

2-3 years ago I got my first Olsen. You can see from earlier in the thread that I should now be attending Olsen AA meetings....

Hi Ashoka and Itsmebeh: Well, I did it again. Another Olsen has joined my family and I'm hoping you can help identify it for me. Here is a Google Photos link: https://photos.app.goo.gl/CrdZgXw39wUjrSLJ6

It's very similar to the 503 Alaskan Skinner you identified for me previously only it has a shorter blade. Thanks in advance for your help. Now, Ashoka, where did you find those Olsen AA meetings... ;)

S Snowcatt Hello, looks like you have a beautiful 500 bird knife. It should have about a 3 1/4 inch blade. Happy hunting, there is no cure. Lol

I picked this up off the bay. Is there a chance that it is an Olsen knife?

You also have to you also have to watch out for non-Olsen knives in Olsen sheaths or boxes.

I have seen a quite a bit of that recently and having informed at least three people that the knife stamp what you picked up is for Ontario Knife. It's easy to see how it gets misguided on that one.

I try to help educate people listing them when I can but sometimes they do not let you.

Good luck on the hunt!

actually, there were actually, there were a couple listing modifications made for this and the proud new owner has both pristine sheaths and boxes for all of these!

***PLEASE NOTE: I have recently located every sheath for the knives in this listing. I have maxed out on the number of photos I can list. If you would like a photo of the sheaths, please contact me.

***The boxes have been located as well and they and the sheaths are pristine!

Due to this, I actually ended up bidding on this but had to stop at $1,500.
I ran across your post and just wanted you to know that I got that set on Ebay and will never split up as long as I have it or sell it, would be a shame to see it go that way.
Just joined and have collected Olsen knives for about 10 years now. I would send you pics, but have no idea how to.

Nice! Glad they are staying as a set and have found there way to a true collector.

This excellent thread inspired me to join this forum. Special thanks to ltsmebsh for the excellent contributions. Sorry for the loss of you friend but you appear to have found new folks interested in Olsens and count me one. I suspect we are in the same general vicinity if your relatives worked at Olsen back in the day. Yes, I know where Howard City is.....live not far away and almost bought a house there years ago. You actually made my day as a transplanted Cheeshead pointing out the connection between Aerial/Jaeger in Marinette, WI and Olsen......it all comes together for me in expanding my collection. Thank you to everyone involved in this thread!! Will have to snap photos of the collection I have.

B BroncoRob ,I’m happy that you like the thread. There isn’t much info out there about the Olsen knife co. And some of it isn’t true. But always nice to in counter another collector. I live about 12 miles from Howard City . Thanks Brian

I agree Brian there is not a lot out there about Olsen. I started hearing about them when I moved to Grand Rapids in 1995 as I was a frequent auction goer. I'm now outside of Greenville so somewhat similar distance from Howard City as you. I wish I could say one runs into Olsen knives frequently in "the community" but I haven't found that to be the case, at least not as much scrounging as I am allowed to do now. I really like that Olsen produced Jaeger K112 you have. Do you have any idea how many Jaeger versions vs AC (Aerial) versions Olsen assembled in the 1970s?

B BroncoRob ,unfortunately I don’t know the numbers made. But I was told once that it was low numbers. I live in Grant, but am in Greenville often. My in-laws live there

I live in Grand Rapids and used to stop at the factory store and chat with Lee Olsen. He was an importer and sold Swiss Army Knives and Swedish Barrel knives. I purchased many there. He also handled Solingen fixed blades which were marked Olsen. Lee was a knowledgeable gentleman who was easy to do knife chat with, reminiscent of Chuck Buck.

Excellent! Look at that, three of us probably within 30 miles of one another. I often wished I could drive by the old Olsen factory but since it burned it is no more. My research indicates the same fate met the original Ariel/Jaeger production building. What a shame. Brian, perhaps sometime when you stray to Greenville we can meet for coffee and pie at Margo's. That is when it is safe to eat out again in restaurants. In the meantime, I guess I'll be searching the web for tidbits on Olsen, Jaeger, Aerial, etc. Brian, you are correct and don't laugh. There really isn't all that much out there on Olsen. Much of what is there, has been put there by you. A book may be in order based on your knowledge and collection! Rob

B BroncoRob , yeah that would be fun. Margo’s is one of my favorite spots in Greenville. Great food and atmosphere. You will have to let me know what your looking for. I’m going to look at a couple of small Olsen collections to buy out in the next few months. That’s depending on what they really have and if we can come to terms on price. But like I’ve always said ,”the fun is in the hunt”. Lol. Brian
