Olsen OK knives

B BroncoRob , yeah that would be fun. Margo’s is one of my favorite spots in Greenville. Great food and atmosphere. You will have to let me know what your looking for. I’m going to look at a couple of small Olsen collections to buy out in the next few months. That’s depending on what they really have and if we can come to terms on price. But like I’ve always said ,”the fun is in the hunt”. Lol. Brian
Brian, you are 100% correct the thrill is the hunt. Will look forward to Margo's. In the meantime I will prioritize my "hunting" list. If you are looking at buying out Olsen collections you are a "made man" in this hobby! Rob

My HC MI #710, from an antique mall in a little farm town Saturday before last. No sheath, and a slightly damaged point, but I've seen Howard City ice-picks for a lot more than $32.

Porch a nice project for some clean up. I haven't delved too much into this series. I believe German mad blades? Doesn't appear deeply pitted. Should look pretty good with some conservative resto.

Brian. I wish you had published that book already!! I have probably run up and down this thread several times over the weekend. With the "curtail unnecessary activity" guidelines (which I believe relevant) seems hard to get out of the winter funk and get going. Sure would have read your book front to back. Sadly, yes it appears Margo's is closed and it doesn't appear even doing carry out. Took some time this weekend to clean up a Lee Jr.. Seems even the internet sales have slowed a bit on most everything. Serious times...... Hunting for one of those Jaeger K112s like yours online. No signs of any having been for sale recently. Rob

I don't know, but it says H.C. MI, so I thought USA blades.

Perhaps.....we can hope that Brian comments. I have pics of one old catalog that I got of the internet at some point. The ad layout for this style was included. This was the the Mark V line. Noted to have blades of high-carbon tool steel. It doesn't mention where these came from. Of interest to you though may be that this was the largest (if it is a 710) of this product line at 6 inches. It included a price list for some of the models (unfortunately doesn't list a year). The 710 was $12.00! Those were the days....but I was probably making $1.40 and hour, LOL.

Your picture didn't come through Jeremy. Is it the set for sale on eBay. I have the complete set with the display case plus a few extras. I think that I have only seen maybe 5 complete sets with the display offered for sale in 25 years. But that doesn't mean that their not there. Lol Brian
Brian, I hope you are doing well in these crazy pandemic days. I still reread this thread on a regular basis awaiting your book (hint). I am curious on Olsen salesman sample boards which you seem to have some of. Was the pewter series you mention having sold as a complete set with some sort of display case? Is the example picture put on by Ashoka one of those or a salesman's board? I don't think it has all the knifes offered in that series but could be wrong. Stay safe and well.

Yes Nightcrawler. Olsen throwing knife. Olsen also made throwing hatchets as you can see in some of the pictures earlier in this thread. Others may be able to help you date this based on construction. Don't own one of these at the moment....would be too tempted to try it out! Love those Olsens

B BroncoRob glad to hear your staying busy. I’ve been tied up finishing some projects. Just had another surgery on my leg, so it’s recovery time. I my have a extra k112. I’ll have to look, hopefully it won’t be to much longer and we can get together.

screened porch screened porch B BroncoRob ,unfortunately I don’t know where the knife blanks were made. But the knife was made in Howard City Mi.

B BroncoRob , yes the pewter series did come in a display case like that one. Or you could buy them individually. The only knife missing from the set is the model 310 Diana the huntress or also referred to as the naked lady. You had to purchase her separately.

Brian, Sorry to hear about the surgery on your leg and, moreover, it being another one. I was wondering if you may have gotten ill or something. Given the current freeze on elective surgeries, did you have it done before the big lock down? I hope all is mending well and that it is all working our for you. Rehab involved? Scary times for all that so be safe and safer rather than sorry.

I was in town yesterday and Margo's is still buttoned up tight and no sign that they were ever doing carryout. I hope the have the means to make it through all this economically I suspect a number in Greenville will not. Thanks for looking into the K112 for me. I have been on some serious searches of the internet and beyond as well as one can at these times. I managed to get an Aerial K112 for what appears to be a reasonable price. Nevertheless, I would love to get a companion Jaeger.....have struck out there so far. At the same time I am trending towards a focus in my Olsen collecting that I would love to chat more about with you. Ideally in person if things improve in the world. I also have to look into private messaging on this forum. I also made a move on a serious grouping of Olsens that I tracked down. Could always use the input of a real Olsen Pro like yourself in my corner. Ha Ha. I have to figure out how to post pictures on this board and put some up.

Stay Well! Enjoy the coming spring.....I think!

Interesting! Thanks for the information. I thought the pewter filet knife would have been in one of those sets also. I have a pewter filet that I purchased a while back with the deluxe sheath pictured previously in this thread I forget the Olsen number now (looked back it would be a 309). I also have a Pewter 308 Pro Skinner that I got at an auction years ago.

Adding this....the deluxe filet knife made by Olsen and shown as a 509 later in this thread looks remarkably similar to a Japanese made Ipco Seki filet knife.....is there a connection? I almost bought one at one point thinking it was an Olsen...then again, perhaps it was a cousin?! LOL

B BroncoRob , yes the 309 pewter trout /deer is part of the display. It was the top knife in the display. I really like the 308 pewter bear. It’s one of my favorites

B BroncoRob , Olsen made all their own filet knives. But it could have been a copycat cousin. Lol. Like I’ve said before, never say never but. I don’t think that we will ever know everything when it comes to Olsen Knives

Just throwing this out there .If anyone has any questions about Olsen OK knives feel free to ask . I will answer to the best of my ability. I have been collecting Olsen's for about 20 + years and have a nice collection of knives plus paperwork and research . If i don't know i will say so .

Ok as I said just rebooting my brain. I said that the 511 and 510's were the only folders made by Olsen, I had a brain fart. They did make and assemble some Aerial and Jaeger Bros. Easy open or Switchblade knives, depending on what you want to call them . Lee Olsen Sr's wife was a Jaeger, her family owned the Aerial knife company. Olsen was given a box of leftover parts for Aerials k112. Olsen assembled what Aerial knives they could with the parts they had and built some Jaeger Bros knives from scratch to honor their relatives. The only way to tell them apart from and original Aerial is the release lever. The original Aerial lever has little circles on it and the Olsen's have a checker board pattern and have stag handles. Here is a pic of my Jaeger Bros k112 made by Olsen. You can read about these knives in Mark Erickson's book Antique American Switchblades.

I’m sorry guys, but I have to make a correction to this post. I just found out from the author of Antique American Switchblades 2004 edition Mark Erickson that he believes at least 95% of the reproduction Aerial / Jaeger switchblades that he said we’re made by Olsen we’re not !!!! Maybe 100%, but in fact were made by 3 gentlemen from Kentucky. They say that 3,000 knives were made, 1,500 of each. Mr Erickson is working on a revised version of this for his book. He says at the time of writing his book , he believed the information was correct. But unfortunately , in just the past few years. He has uncovered this new information. And has in fact talked to the makers of the knives. Like I’ve always said, if I can’t provide literature to support what I say, I will tell you. He says that this does not affect the value of the knives as they are still well built and rare switchblades . But as a Olsen collector it affects me and other Olsen collector’s who believed they we’re in fact made by Olsen do to this article. I don’t know what else I can say other than the knives are still valued at $400 to $500. And now whoever reads this thread will know this new information and decide if they want to purchase one on it’s own merit and not as an Olsen for their collection. I like mine, so I think that I will keep it, just not a Olsen . Sincerely Brian
