OT/ Glock .45?

I wouldn't use one. For home defense, capacity is important to me, but more importantly, IMHO any home defense weapon should be mounted with a taclight, and you can't do that on a standard 1911.

Got to love spray and pray inside your house full of family members

To me, it's shot placement. Why fling 15 rounds around when 1 well placed shot will do the job?

The biggest magazine capacity I have now is in my Buckmark, 10 rounds. The 1911 has 9 maximum, and the .41 mag is loaded with 6 rounds always. You don't necessarily need a hi cap mag.

As for needing a light mounted on a pistol, once again, I don't think necessary. Use the flashlight in your off hand, and use the crossover method. Sometimes the light discloses your location when you don't want it to since you have most control of it when it's constantly on.

I mean for pure home defense, a Colt .45 Government Model would be fine, no?

All that matters in my opinion is that you can shoot the pistol well. You ask about Colt and I have one that is not so reliable. I even dumped about 1k into the gunsmithing and it still does not inspire confidence. It put me off to 1911's as a defense gun SO MUCH it took the better part of those 5k rounds through my Les Baer before I trusted the 1911 again.

Food for thought. :)

I carry a Glock 21 every day...i trust my life to this gun. Whole department switched to glock 21( gen 4) and glock 30 as back-up or off duty. Shoots any ammo run thru it, goes bang everytime and is usually more accurate than the shooter. 14 rounds of 230g gold dots is a pretty feirce option. Switching from the 40.cal glocks, even our problem shooters have improved....but remember, a handgun is a defensive weapon, a good tool to fight your way to a proper gun- shotgun or rifle....as others have said, a good shotgun is awful hard to beat for home defense.

LOL... i agree...

First, allow me to say that "spray and pray" isn't what i'm going for... if that were the case, i'd be using my sig556 not my Glock. Extra capacity is attractive. There's no drawback to extra rounds in the mag.

Also, there are 2 people in my home. Myself, and my wife, and our bedroom is in the back of the house, so i won't be shooting that direction

I don't know if you've ever played with a TLR1, but you can completely control when the light is on or off. That's actually be best thing about it.

Folks are different. Nothing wrong with that

For you brother Rolf. My Glock 21 and USP .45, and a Zaan for fun.
I actually shoot better with the Glock. You can't go wrong

Yup, and other Streamlights, and the X300 from Surefire.

The toggle is nice, but I (maybe not others) can confidently and comfortably control it with my trigger finger. I like my finger being a bit closer to the trigger if in a situation like that, I can easily see a hurried pulled shot getting from the toggle to the trigger.

As for Glocks going bang every time, all the time, and all that BS. We all know people with horror stories. I was with a friend when his 26 light striked a round when we were just shooting. A cop I know bought a 45 cal Glock (I believe a 36) and it jammed on him 7-8 times the first time he put 50 rounds though it. A SWAT team member I know had several hang ups with his 17 at his last outing and he admitted that it startled him because the koolaide of Glocks never fail.

It's like people saying buy a revolver, they always go bang and never have an issue. Well....that's bull sh*t. It's man made, it can screw up.

I own(ed) the G21 hi cap .45 Glock for the last 17 years. I have used it for CCW carry as well as work as a contractor. It has proven reliable, sturdy, and able to handle rough conditions without any issues whatsoever. It is not for everyone. The grip is for big hands but is controllable. Accuracy out of the box is superior. If you are looking for a 'pretty' gun go elsewhere with your high heels and skirt. I also own a G19 and one of those foreign made (Croatia) Springfield XD9-Ms. I like both of them but I have seen a couple XDs fail miserably on the range. I can't say I like that as far as a gun for CCW or contractor carry.

I will put my pretty much stock gun against any other handgun with similar caliber and barrel length head to head on the range without hesitation.

That would be my thoughts as well and I feel I should not have left that out of my view.

I can speak only of my LB 1911. Reliable as anything with over 5k rounds and never a hint of a hiccup.

I do enjoy shooting the glock, I just would never trade my LB for 4 new Glocks.

There, I edited that for you. The cheapest LB 1911 on their website is about the cost of 4 Glocks.

You could buy a large and small in two calibers for the price of the least expensive 1911 from LB.

If you are talking one of the expensive ones, you could buy 15 Glocks.........................

I've been a firearms instructor for about 17 years. I've shot just about every conceivable pistol configuration there is. Like many have posted, I would highly recommend you go to a range and fire a few pistols to see what you like first. There is no "one fit" for everyone. The 1911 style pistols by reputable makers have legendary grip characteristics and shoot like a dream. They are tougher to break down, clean and reassemble than almost all of the "modern" polymer pistols. If you like to "pimp" your gun, then a 1911 (like an AR) is your gun. Polymer guns are somewhat limited on the pimping. The polymer pistols break down so easy it's scary. Glock started the polymer craze and there are more aftermarket/third party parts for it than the others. The M&P for many feels better in the hand and the grip angle seems to be more preferred. The first Gen. M&P's had some issues but they have weeded out their bugs since then and seem to be a fine pistol. Springfield’s XD-M's shoot very nicely but for me, the Glock and the M&P feel better. I have the Glock 21 1st Gen. and let’s just say I've been in some "bad situations" with it. It worked flawlessly and saved not only my life but my partner. I've fired over 13,000 rounds of 230g through it with only 5-7 FTF's. I now carry a H&K P2000 (mandated) and it too is a fine polymer pistol BUT many people including myself don't like it's ergonomics. I collect firearms and as such, there is an unwritten law that you must have at least one 1911 in your collection lest you be deemed a non-gun-guy. I've owned five including a Colt Gold cup, 2 Kimbers, and a Springfield. The only one I have left is the best shooter of the bunch; a STI Guardian in .45. STI IMO makes one of the best bang for your buck 1911's out there. The main complaint I hear with the Glocks is the "Glock Grip". If you shoot one, most people have to learn to tweak the wrist downward slightly as compaired to other pistols. It doesn't bother me at all. I currently own two Glocks, the Model 21 and the 23 in .40. When I want to show off a nice pistol to a friend, I break out the STI 1911. If I were going into a bad situation or was going into the Zombie Apocalypse with one pistol, I'd want my Glock, hands down..The STI does look MUCH better though.

Now, you just have to send it to Chuddy for a custom sheath that can hold the Glock and your BCCCSSEB (Busse Combat Chisel Cut Swinecosa Special Edition Blade)

:-)

Guys... I'm going with the Glock.

My condolences Rolf

And slightly off topic.......is that a polymer mainspring housing on that STI or are my eyes not right because it's early?
