Paypal friends and family and does paypal cover knives if lost or scammed

Sucks PayPal owns venmo. Not many options for electronic payments that offers protections for knives. If anyone comes across something I'm all ears.

yeah that does suck I didn't know that about Venmo. its liberal and combined liability nonsense not covering knife purchase or even allowing payments for firearms I'd have to imagine. Did they give any reasoning?

Here is one very recent example of the kind of case Bigfattyt Bigfattyt was discussing. This type of miscarriage of justice happens all over the country, but usually only the lawyer community is aware of these problems.

After a jury finds St. Petersburg, Fla. oncology practice knowingly billed Medicare improperly on 214 occasions, defrauding the feds of a total of $755.54, the district court orders the practice to pay $1.17 mil ($350k of which goes to the practice's billing manager, who blew the whistle). An unconstitutionally excessive fine? Eleventh Circuit: It might be a "very harsh" fine. But it's not excessive. Two-judge concurrence: It seems like our precedent on what counts as excessive is too deferential to Congress—"a bit like letting the driver set the speed limit."

I think the real thing paypal has to fear in allowing F&F payments is being smacked by Uncle Sam for facilitating people getting around paying income tax.

Only a matter of time before F/F goes under microscope. I have a feeling there is going to be a surge in F/F payments with addresses and notes attached.

Unsolicited opinion - I think the safest bet is for buyer / seller to exchange an invoice through goods and services so there is record of sale , and possible re sale down the road. I believe I read something to the extent that PayPal person to person invoices may not be applicable or valid though.

What a pain in the ____.

Save your receipts!

**I am also the opposite of an expert at anything tax / irs related.

Presuming this is all true that PP will not guarantee delivery on knives with G&S
not sure of the fee structure- the best option I can think of is using PP G&S or any other digital transfer service that will let you pay by credit card. The credit card will have your back if the item isn't delivered.
This will still leave you with the tax hassle. I am firmly against using F&F for G&S type transactions, and if you start having a load of them , they will close or restrict your account-but that is up to you.
If you want to avoid tax hassle, USPS money orders are going to work best
but they will not guarantee delivery
At present I can't think of any way to both guarantee delivery and avoid tax hassles, other than deal with those you know and trust with USPS money orders

After going over this thread https://bladeforums.com/threads/paypal-no-longer-covers-any-knives-just-called-them.1647971/
it seems that if there is a problem with PP G&S(and that is a pretty big if), it is with the sellers protection not the buyers. In that case credit cards are of no benefit(to the seller). What you accept is a matter of how easy and reassuring you want to make things for your buyer. Money orders would still work for both getting the money and avoiding tax hassle. You could take any digital transfer payment(buyers likely not protected) or even PP G&S -just might mot be covered with sellers protection.

To be clear I am not talking about not paying the taxes you owe-just not doing a bunch of paper work that results in no taxes. I don't even try to make a profit, and have been very successful in achieving that goal :) Most of us work at a loss.

So far as of today, January 2nd 2022 Paypal is still showing the $20K & 200 G&S transactions as the IRS 1099 threshold unless you live in Vermont, Massachusetts, Virgina or Maryland and $1000 for Illinois.

Maybe they have not updated that page yet.

For you G/S guys..

For you G/S guys..
So what? They are scamming PayPal at that point. PayPal will reimburse the buyer and then deal with the seller. (So long as they still cover knives which as far as I know at this point in time they do)

If I’m not mistaken, just a few days ago a few, or a bunch of you guys were of the mindset that G/S was completely safe. Scam-proof. As a matter of fact, someone even asked if anyone had ever been scammed using G/S. And now here is proof of a scam that just happened. So, so what? Are you just in denial?

And, I’m pretty damn sure we have not come to the conclusion that PP will cover your knife. And If they won’t, then guess what? You’re SOL. Maybe they will. Maybe they won’t. So unless I missed the part where someone contacted PP and has some type of guarantee, then I’m not sure why you’ve come to that conclusion.

I find this comical in a way. Some of You guys put way too much trust in a few letters… f/f, g/s.. Someone above said something along the lines “I’ll stop reading as soon as I see f/f”. Another guy said he’ll never send f/f as he isn’t giving a gift.. like ok? I sent someone f/f last night and guess what. I didn’t get scammed.

I’ve had more than 100k in sales and purchases over the last year(not profit, but that isn’t the point) and I’ve never once been scammed. It really isn’t that hard. Maybe I’m just immune 🤔

First off, if a scammer accepts PayPal goods and services then they are an idiot or really good hacker. PayPal had a proven history of refunding and protecting buyers here on this forum. Use the search function. The buyer would be refunded and PayPal would deal with the scammer. That's how that works.

So even in your own example you failed to understand the buyer HAS NOT BEEN SCAMMED lol

Your railing for friends and family is what's comical along with your lack of understanding how PayPal works.

Now if PayPal changes to not cover knives as they always have, it's time to find another avenue.

Calm down and work on your reading comprehension.

And 100k in sales and purchases 🤦‍♂️ lol
Laugh all you want. It wasn’t meant as a brag or anything of that nature.. but I bet I have a lot more transactions than most people. Aka experience. Aka not getting scammed using methods other than g/s.

Terrible reasoning.

Since you're a brand new member here where has those 100k in sales online gone through that didn't use g&s?

Enlighten us.
