RESOLVED: Complaint for Ilbruche

Just curious, was the axe a trade for the work on the other knife, or was the axe a contest prize, and the work on the other knife was to be done free of charge?

The axe was sent to ilbruche as a trade for work. The details of the transaction are described below.

First, I had no connection to "Southern Rule" other than as a member who was interested in seeing their outdoors section grow. The contest I initiated was stated to have a six month duration, but SR, to my surprise, folded a few weeks after the contest was begun. I was not even sure who all had submitted, or how many posts there were because the whole site just vanished unexpectedly. But I did remember seeing some posts from bruche because I knew him from Ramanon. Additionally, there was another fellow with a number of posts whose name I could not remember at all. Given the circumstances I did not feel under any obligation to award the hatchet to anyone.

Some time after SR folded I bought the Rambo IV and contacted Fiddleback on BF about re-handling the blade. He said he was too busy and recommended that I try ilbruche. Shortly afterwards I got a PM from bruche on BF asking (jokingly as I took it) how he was going to get his Reeves hatchet since SR had shut down. Without answering the question, I told him that I was just getting ready to contact him about re-handling the RIV knife for me based on Andy's recommendation. He volunteered immediately that he could do the job for the Reeves hatchet. I accepted the offer and shipped the Reeves and the RIV to him via USPS Priority Mail within a few days.

I didn't win the contest on SR? dang. I would have liked the site to suceed, and I enjoyed your postings there.
Hope this all works out as you want it, Bill.

I hope all this works out. If I read correctly on the other post from HDW, the knife is done and on its way. Bruce is a good guy. I don't know what is going on in his life, but it is either something big or a lot of things that kept him from getting this done in a timely manner. I have never heard another cross word about him aside from this thread. This, as far as I know, is an isolated incident. I don't think one thing should ruin a guy's reputation. Everybody deserves some slack and forgiveness once in a while. By no means am I excusing the tardiness, but I don't know what is going on in his personal life either. No one has heard from Bruce, aside from HDW, and none of us know what is going on with him. I hope we can all take a lesson in communication from this situation. Had there been some updates to HDW, I don't think any of this would have come to a head at all. I hope all this works out HDW, keep us updated.

Andy H.

You're right about the importance of updates HS. I'll post more about the situation when the RIV arrives. Thanks for your good wishes. I'll keep you all updated.

I must have missed that. When was the knife supposedly shipped?

The communication I finally received from bruche came on 5/27/09. It said:

"It's done. Send your address." Bruce Carpenter

I sent my address that evening, so the package could have been mailed the next day (a week ago) but I have no confirmation of that. Exactly when it should arrive depends on when and how it was shipped. I'm not saying the package is overdue at this point, just that it's time to start watching.

BTW, June 08 is the month that the Reeves and RIV were originally shipped to ilbruche. So this transaction has been in the works for about a year.

I just made a mental note to avoid doing business with you in any way.....accountablity is key in the knife community, anyone who says anything other than that is to be viewed as having suspect morals.

Thanks for outing yourself.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I don't think it is the time since it should have been shipped that is causing you concern. It is the buildup of everything that has happened that is causing you to wonder if the knife was actually shipped.

A year is way too long for something like to have taken.

That's exactly right Keith. After about 6 months I was no longer able to believe anything bruche told me.

I would point out one more thing. Bruche's 5/27/09 response from facebook where I finally located him says:

"It's done. Send your address." Bruce Carpender

Don't know about the rest of you, but I have not been able to detect any sign of apology, explanation or regret in that communication. In fact, the tone is inappropriately terse given that I've been waiting for him to deliver on his commitment for a year. That tells me all I need to know about bruche's character.

IMO, he(Bruce) should have responded back to you with the delivery confirmation number in a reasonable amount of time soon after you replied to him on 5/27/09 with your delivery address.. I think you have every right to inquire about the DC # and any other shipping information he can provide if you have not received the parcel by the end of business today.

No package today. Just sent an inquiry to Bruce on Facebook. Thanks for the suggestion.

Here's the message I sent to bruche on Facebook Friday night:

"Hey Bruce, no package yet. Has the RIV been shipped? Do you have a tracking number or delivery confirmation number?"

Now it's Sunday night and I still have no response.

It's like deja vu all over again.

I can't think of anything else to do at this point except to contact the appropriate law enforcement officials for Eldorado Springs, CO. There's no guarantee this action will accomplish anything, but I no longer have any hope at all that bruche will make good on his commitment out of ethical considerations. He's still laying low and avoiding communication. Don't know why he said the blade was finished and asked for my address. He's had the address now for two weeks.

That is too bad, I was holding out some hope that he got off his ass and kept his end of the deal. I guess this should be a lesson to anyone in the futur to not deal with him. Sorry it had to come at your cost.

Hello I have been watching this the whole time. I'm sadden to see someone else get ripped off. Maybe it's because I'm young but I don't understand how so many people can do others wrong and not feel one bit bad about it. I couldn't lay my head at night knowing I was causing someone hardship. In another thread I was ripped off of a F/B and $65. I know that's not a lot to most people but it is to me at this point in my life. Well I hope he comes to his senses and does the right thing. Take Care highdesertwalker and keep us all posted.

One thing I've noticed about bruche while searching him out on other forums is that he has a very high opinion of himself. Here's an example from friendster in 2006:

# About Me:

I don't use friendster much, check myspace for ilbruche. I'm currently very interested in peoples eyes and have learned there is much to be found in them. I'm also looking to find the perfect environment in which to attain enlightenment. Been going a little crazy lately trying to extrapolate on the pontifications of other sophists. Most people grow OLD they do not grow UP. Up meaning that they improve themselves in someway. I've thrown away the idea that you should pigeonhole yourself and your interests. Thus when I grow Up I want to be an ornithologist, drummer, master trout fisherman, dancer, photographer, poet, artist, guru of propane and its many virtues, Yogi,

# "Bruce is the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off of his back... But it was the one he borrowed from you the day before.
I think that Bruce is doing what he wants to do, which is great to see."

* bruce is one of those few people i'll go up and talk
to if i see them anywhere, even though i don't
understand what the hell he's talking about some
of the time. he's also one of the few people who
manages to do exactly what they want to be doing
in life.

I went looking for him on ramanon and got kicked in the balls. You would think the knife community would stick up for each other rather than getting up tight about cross forum contamination. Oh well, I hope this works out. Popping some corn and sitting back for the show.

Take care HDW, your patience and cool head will prevail.
