Separating maker from knife

I would add Gooseworks Arena/Resco Instruments to the list. And possibly by way of lying in support of the aforementioned....Half Face Blades.
May I ask what issues you have had with these makers? I own a Resco watch and had one of their folders that I passed on simply because of preference, but I have always been very impressed with Resco's quality and customer service.

shinyedges shinyedges is going to open a thread in "Political" where that side of the discussion can continue, and provide a link here.

There's no reason that we can't carry on the (related) conversations in both venues, as there is a difference in the tenor of each.

Basically, in summary, the owner/maker of Resco watches is apparently a former SEAL. He decides to make some frame lock folders under the name Gooseworks Arena. Does the typical "handmade in USA by me, former Navy SEAL, 'murica" sales pitch.

Well a couple youtube videos come out alleging the folders are made for him by a Chinese company. On another platform he starts getting questioned by folks about country of origin.

Guy 1 aks where are these made? Another guy says "in makers shop in Oregon". Half Face Blades chimes in and says "Yes, in makers shop in Oregon". Guy 1 asks Half Face Blades "can you confirm this?" Half Face Blades replies "Yes, 100%. Maker is a former team member of mine." Resco/Gooseworks doesn't respond at all.

Later in another post, Resco/Gooseworks owner confirms knives are made to his specs by Bestech. Throws real bad light on him and also Half Face Blades for talking out his rear end at the very least.

I have screenshots of all of this.

Never heard of these guys but they deserve all the heat they'll get. Seems to be a very hoback-esk thing these days.

Why can't mf'ers just tell the truth? Is it really so damn hard?

If your stuff is good, people will notice. If it ain't, being a former anything don't mean shit in regards to knives and gear. (I do appreciate legitimate service, regardless.)

I cannot abide liars of any stripe.

I wasn't trying to get a political discussion going, for what it's worth. I know it's not the place for it.

Nor was I.

* edited and I moved the discussion to the PA. Thanks!

If I like a knife, I’m buying it. Couldn’t care less who made it or whether or not I agree with them on life topics

Have to say that it pleases and entertains me tremendously that I’ve apparently caused such huge consternation with my opinion that a thread was created elsewhere to berate or try to debate me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Oh, Bladeforums, never change.

🤣🤣 You think that was just for you?

He would be in error then...but shhh...let's remain quiet on the actual reason.

How many times have I been mentioned in that thread already and had my comments here copied over there? Anyway, it’s just something I found entertaining. Wish you the best on yet another thread started to rail against folks or opinions you don’t like. Have a great weekend. 👍

It's almost like when you post something online, other people quote it and want to discuss it. Have a good weekend too.

Lol, there’s 15 total posts in the PA thread so far, that’s hardly ”railing” against you. Your views here have proven to not even be worth making onto a second page 😂.

It is funny you had to come back here though to continue to push this thread off topic.

It's simple for me:

I actually don't need any further knives. My collection is already so big that I could not "cut my way through" all my knives in my remaining lifetime.
So I will only buy from makers and companies that align with my values - and not being a liar or a dick is pretty high up there...

If bad people can't do good things, there's no such thing as hope. While I agree with almost everything ShinyEdges said, I find that judging others diminishes *me*. I want to be upfront that I have made some mistakes in my life, and done some things I am less than proud of. I am surely on the "Scumbag/shit-person" list that a few of you seem to be keeping. It is a much better feeling when you find good knives from honest people, I agree! I've been through all the feelings I care to have about my remaining BRK's, and while they won't get any more of my money, I really love the blades I have left (the ones with good heat treat) and use da' pissoutta them.
I like this thread.

So, I will respectfully disagree on the aspect of Drew and Half Face Blades. Drew is a stand-up individual who probably saw the prototypes or design work at his teammates shop and made the assumption that production would stay CONUS. Also, Team guys have an enormous amount of loyalty to one another. To be clear I do not know for certain that this is the case, but I do know Drew, and the Drew I know would not purposely mislead people.

He made a misleading statement about country of origin. Then he doubled down on it after being asked if he could confirm, saying "Yes 100%. Owner is a former teammate of mine."

As if somehow, because the maker was a former teammate, then the knives must be USA made.

He wasn't (publicly) asked for his input. He came in to bat for his buddy and then doubled down. Then it turned out to not be the case.

Maybe he should have stayed out of it if he actually didn't know "100%".

Throws bad light on him, IMO, no matter how you slice it.
