Yeah, it's not that great a name. That's a nice whittler you've ordered....from Clarence?
sunburst, pretty soon you will have a complete S&M collection!

Thanks waynorth for the compliments I have held off getting some of the Premier Schatts for a while, because of other knife spending area's..

We will have to see about a complete S&M collection for some time but I enjoy working at it..:D It seems I still need a few more harness jacks out of the 1st & 2nd series...If you know of anyone who could help me in that area please let me know...;)

Yes I purchased the whittler from Clarence and the Premier English Jack, he doesn't know it yet but I plan to purchase a set or two from him right around the corner..And a few odd and ends he's got listed in his newsletter..

Keep your beauty's coming for us to drool over...

sunburst and waynorth:
You guys had a hefty conversation last night.
And showed off some very nice knives indeed!!
Love that Canittler and the coming Premier one!!
With the split back springs, these puppies must be very difficult to make.

Here are pics of Case's famous 6380 whittler, a mid-80's knife on top, and a 40's-50's knife on bottom. I've also added the backspring view, to illustrate the change in building techniques that occurred. The older one is slimmer, and shows a lot more hand shaping, whereas most modern knives are "squarer" in profile. Both nice, but I sure love the feel and look of the oldies!!

Those are both real nice. Great pics illustrating the design details as well. Thanks for sharing. :)

A 1987 Cripple Creek that was here to greet me at my door as I came home a little early from work, mere moments ago.. And if I would have known it was here waiting in the mailbox for me, I would have even left work before lunch..;) :D

I have seen this large Whittler before on a few occasions in person but never handled it. Wow, this puppy has a bit of heft to it and the heavy blades are impressive as is the pretty dark brown bone, walk & talk, and the fit and finish. I like it.

Hey sunnyd, I'd call that a Moose! But you can whittle with it if you want;) !
Besides, I don't know how to "moose", do you:confused: ?:D

I believe that pattern is actually called serpentine whittler. Sunbursts S&M above is also a sepentine by definiton. Heavy serpentine pattern knives like that one with a saber or clip point are sometimes also known as doglegs.

Doglegs have unequal ends, sorta like a dog's leg! Thick like a thigh at one end, and thin like the lower leg at the other. A peanut is a dogleg; it's serpentine, but unequal!
At least in my neck of the woods. Larry's is serpentine but equal! So I don't think of it as a dogleg. But sunbursts is more like a dogleg. It
I do have a question about that; Is a wharncliffe called a wharncliffe if it has the handle shape, but has a clip blade instead of a wharncliffe blade??

I'm sorry you got the wrong knife sent to you, sunnyd.
Whoever sent a moose instead of a whittler to you ought to be ashamed.
But I'll tell you what:
You send that moose to me, and I'll have a serious word with the person who sent you the knife. That'll teach them!! :D
