Great dogs edgyone!
Jake looks like a real sweetheart.
Emma looks like she means business!

protourist- is that a desert tortoise? I ran into one of those when I was at Ft. Irwin years ago. My Dad used to collect tortoises, and we had quite a few in the house while I was growing up. As the family grew, most were sold or traded off. He hung onto a Burmese Brown and an African Leopard for a while, though, but eventually ended up donating them to the Cincinnati Zoo. My little brother keeps a couple of Sulcatas, and we bougt Dad a replacement Leopard for his birthday several years ago.

OK- back to dogs. :o:p:D
Yeah, he is a desert tortoise. He has been roaming the backyard since 1971.

A couple of recent shots of Ruby, my lab. She's getting older, and has recently adopted an 'all or none' policy towards hikes; some days, she decides to take it easy and refuses to hit the trails - other days, she ranges ahead of me, jumps in streams, and searches for dead things to roll in. Like me, she prefers the cold weather, and she enjoys nothing more than romping in the powder while we're out snowshoeing.

Wow, tidefan, those are gorgeous! How is it that you came to have two wolves? There must be an interesting story behind that. Anyway, I'm totally jealous!

All the best,

- Mike

Wow, that is very cool. I'd think their behaviors are much different from that of a normal dog, do you find this to be the case? Are they difficult to raise and train?

My wife and I are both have native American ancestry and the wolf is part of our heritage. She is Iroquois and I'm Cherokee and the wolf was a symbol for both tribes. We found a wolf breeder and picked up the female first, and she was so smart and easliy trained that we picked up the male who is a lump of stupid love. He thinks he's a lap dog. They act very different from normal dogs. They are very protective and watchful. They are den animals and so we have a yard full of holes...BIG holes. One is 2 feet down and 8 feet back under and they sleep there. They eat 50 lbs. of dry food and 28 cans every 2 weeks. They can be a pain in the butt but they are worth it....Jim

That is very cool...I too am part Native American (had to have genetic testing done to prove it since I don't look the part at all), Powhatan to be exact. Anyways, do you have to have a special permit/license to obtain a wolf as a pet? It may vary depending on the state, not sure though.

I don't post here much, but I just had to get in on this thread. This is my boy Charlie Banger Yutzy. He's about 14 months old, a puggle (pug+beagle), who my fiance and I adopted from a shelter in Ohio after he was rescued from a puppy mill. He was about 8 weeks, and a staggering 3 pounds when we picked up our baby. He's been everything I could have hoped for in a pup... loyal, caring, playful, and always happy to give his pop a few kisses when I walk in the door. He weighs in at 29 pounds now, and that's about as big as he'll get. Don't be fooled by size though... He's a tank!
