In Canada Sebenza's cost between the low 500's to mid 700's so yeah I think anyone who buys one is trying to impress somebody. What makes me laugh about Sebenza's is that the "large" model has a blade just over 3 inches long. I've got dozens of folders [ I don't even have to include my 15 or so CS XL folders] that would make the Sebenza their bitch.

They are worth it to me and I am comfortable if they aren't worth it, or even liked, by other people. They meet all the criteria that matter most to me when selecting a knife.

- Design: Do I like it? Yes. I like how they look and how they feel in hand when using them. Plus they cut thangs.
- Material quality: Any good? Yes - no issues. I prefer titanium handles and the steel holds an edge well and I am able to sharpen it. The blades are beautifully ground.
- Reputation:- Is it good? It is excellent and has built and held over a very long time - backed by a strong warranty.
- Cost: Can I afford to buy it and still feed my kids? Yes.

I have way too many knives and couldn't give a $#%@ what other people think just as they shouldn't care what I think of them. I don't need more than one knife - I want them and I'm lucky enough to be able to indulge the hobby having worked hard all my life. Some days I prefer a CRK and some days I prefer something else - that could be an Opinel, SAK or Shiro. Either way I don't sweat it. I'll spend my money while you spend yours - we earned that right.

PS: I also waste money on watches and boots. I am an awful person - please feel free to judge me.

The best thing to do is go on youtube and look at the shop tours by Chris Reeve. Its pretty impressive everything thats done to make one of these knives. He is beyond a perfectionist, and won more awards than probably any other maker. He should be working at area 51.

You probably don't like CRKs because there are no ridiculous videos of them being used to chop up meat boots by dudes in suggestively teutonic uniforms set to chugging guitars.

It's a very nice knife but you'll sure feel that $500 if you lose it. I doubt there's anyone here who has never lost a knife, I know I have.

I lost a single knife since joining these forums in 2006. And that was a gym bag knife that I barely paid attention to.

large sebenza blade is 3.65" ;and i cannot tell you how many of these threads on Sebenzas ive seen in the last 20 years. And the Sebenza is still around, and still the benchmark for the best production knife.

In 43 years of carrying and using knives, I’ve only ever lost one, and that “knife” was a Leatherman Wave I used to keep in my car’s glove compartment. And it wasn’t actually lost; someone broke into my car one night and stole it. Never lost any others.

You sound like you're projecting. Just because you would buy knives to impress others, it clearly doesn't mean others are motivated in the same way. And why would you assume that price range is a big deal for everyone?

You do know that large is a term grounded by relative comparison, right? Like the "Large" Sebenza has a 3.6" blade and a "Small" Sebenza has a blade length under 3". 3.6" is LARGER than less than 3". Thus...Large and Small.

No one is floppin their folders out on the table for comparison here. Relax, you get to still be King Bigboy if you must;)

oh man....don’t get started on boots. I’m a sucker for Lucchese’s

Focus....Focus...the topic is Sebenza...

also my face when someone's argument is basically "but my [x brand] is JUST AS GOOD"

sorry darling...it isnt.

It wasn’t even about the brand comparison. Apples to oranges for me.

I try hard to be respectful of all, but this post is so full of inaccuracies I feel need addressed.

First Sebenza’s are between $500-$1600 CAN. This is for new from store. The large model Sebenza is 3.6”, and there is no comparison between CS knives and CRK knives. Two totally different animals.

At that price range it is arguably the benchmark for quality, fit and finish, and performance.

I've owned perhaps 25 or 30 Sebbies, large and small, in various configurations. I also have one Zaan,
which I reserve for teariing down old buildings.
The small does NOT fit my large hand, but the wood inlays seem more beautiful on the smaller knives.
I am carrying my Sebenza Regular at the moment. My large Sebenza 21 is getting a face-lift factory at the moment.
It is true that they last forever...

This arrived today. ;)

Too soon?

Get it over with and buy one.

Get one lightly used

Hahaha, yeah.

After being into knives for a while I wanted to try CRK out of curiosity. I stalked the Exchange and found a good deal on a lightly used Umnumzaan. I fell in love.

It was more than a year later that I picked up a lightly used 21. You’ll only know if it’s worth it once you try it.

How dare a person try to comprehend why a pocket knife that cost more than a regular car payment receives all the hype it does for decades on a knife enthusiast fourm? /s

Putting it in perspective with a lousy car payment makes me want to buy another CRK!

I don’t own a Sebenza, never have but I’ve handled some at knife shows and a buddy of mine owns one. I think it’s worth whatever you decide it’s worth. Anyone that wants to drop the coin on one I applaud and hope it serves them well.

I’ve seen plenty of posts here showing the work a Sebbie can get done AND I’ve seen plenty of people with issues out of the box. It happens, nothing is perfect but CRK seems to be an awesome company and backs their product 100%. I’ve had the pleasure to sit amongst a group of friends and have had Chris Reeve come to our table and drink scotch with us and talk about things other than knives. He seemed like a cool cat, didn’t get a bad vibe off of him and he was chill and I enjoyed his company.

That doesn’t sway me either way, I enjoy the knives I enjoy and others are free to enjoy theirs. I will say if I wanted to purchase a Sebenza I would without hesitation. Build quality, materials and support them seem to have makes it well worth it to me. Again, I don’t own one but would if it were in the market for one.

LOL so a 3.6" blade is a bitch to a 4" blade? I don't think I've ever heard of a shorter knife referred to as a bitch to a longer knife. Guess there's always a first time for everything and we learn something new everyday haha.

I think it is a matter of opinion that will change depending on the user. If you are really in to pocket knives, I would recommend trying the sebenza. The knives hold their value so well, your not going to get hurt that bad if it’s not for you. You can just pass it along. There isn’t a question of it being a really good knife. The sebenza is a very good knife. If it’s worth the price tag or not, will be up to you.

That is hot discussion here :)
IMO Sebenza worth its cost, it’s popular, and sells very well for decades, this is the main indicator :)
Should someone buy it? That’s also is very simple. Answer to your self on three questions - can you afford to buy it, Can you afford to use it, do you LIKE it? If the answer will be three yes, you definitely should try it :)
