Strider SmF CC Black Oxide 3/4 Grind in CPM 3V

So I decided I'm going to get the one in s110 but now I can't find one in s110

As Jim said, it is a TNK exclusive. TNK has fabulous service IME. The F&F on this very, very limited run of SMFs is absolutely top-drawer by any standard, based on the one I got.

Any thoughts on the knife in particular? I'm terribly curious about the rumored fit and finish issues with Strider. I'm also curious about how it feels in hand, whether it has that "fits like a glove" feeling you get with an XM-18, a Sebenza, and the AD-10. Also wanted to know whether it bothers you much that you only get about 3 1/2" of cutting edge on a knife with a 4" blade, as I find it easier to make heavy cuts with the edge closer to the handles.

I have four Striders (PT, SnG x2, SMF). All are at least very good/excellent in F&F. The TNK SMF is impeccable.

I really like the ergos on the Striders. I don't mind losing edge to the choil. The control and general handling are excellent.

This one I got is the same, level of F&F would be excellent by anyones standards.

Those are some great pic's Jim. I've got 3 Striders (SNG's) and the F&F is excellent, guess I've been lucky. What I don't understand is the "grittyness" when you 1st get them. They have to be opened & closed a few hundred times to smooth out. Strider is the only knife maker that I know of that makes folders this way.
though it would have made more sense to use a FFG for more strength, 3V is tough enough to handle a hollow grind
.
The 3/4 hollow grind is stronger. Especially the tip. A good example of this would be the difference in the regular Spyderco Endura (hollow ground) and the FFG Edura.

Jim, how do you like 320 finish on the EdgePro? I've been thinking about sharpening one of my Para's to 320 and leaving the edge unpolished. I've heard that the toothy finish works well on a hard use edge.

If the blade is coated it takes time to break it in, time for the ball to wear through the coating on the blade and the washers to break in.

I have my S30V Para 2 and now this Knife at 320 Grit finish and they work great.

Works very well on cardboard and other stuff.

Here is a closeup of the 320 grit EP edge.

Ah thanks. I did read that the owner of TNK hand picks the knives from knife shows, so I assume that he's another line in quality control due to that. My wallet hates you now:D.

When did you stop putting a high polish on S30v. I remember a thread a while back when I believe it was knifeknut who said it doesn't cut all too well at a high polish and you responded that you haven't seen how you do s30v. Do you feel the 320 cuts better? On occasion I'll bring my s30v up to the EF DMT and no higher, but that's about as aggressive as i'm willing to go before I notice a lack of performance in the long run. I have my SMF at a super high polish, but at a ridiculously thick edge.

That's 3V in the photo. :)

That edge will slice through TP clean and whittle hair while being very aggressive. :D

I have some S30V at high polish (Militaries) and one at 320 Grit (Para 2) so it depends on what I want the knife to do in the end.

In the case of the TNK SMFs, they actually wouldn't be something that was picked out at a show. They're a special batch that the Strider guys made for Neil to celebrate him getting American citizenship -- hence the American flag on the handles.

And yeah, between the CPM 3V SMF that I'm about to order and the Demko customs I'm on the list for, I think Jim's threads cost me more money per click than those of any other BFC member. :grumpy: :p

I was going to reply to Noctis3880, but Neuron has it all laid out here. My belief, based on being on the TNK site early after the "Tri-Hybrid" S110V knives were posted, is that there were no more than ~30 of those knives made in that configuration. I also picked up one of the SnG S110V knives. Those together set me back a tidy bit of cash and I haven't felt flush enough to pull the trigger on a 3V SMF yet.

Oh now it's all my fault. :D

Ah. But TNK's knives are still generally better in f&f than other dealers right? I've put in an order for the s110v SmF myself.

Yessir, I've bought a 710-1, a ZT 0301, an American Lawman, and now the SmF because you've sold the knives so well. Cold Steel would want you;).

Not sure why that (bold red below) would be true. I doubt anyone gets preferential treatment by Strider.

I was feeling very flush and picked up a SNG 110v and SMF in 3V. Hope the wife doesn't find out!
