Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

That's a nice idea might give it a try at some point, thanks for the suggestion
Or post in the sale thread a WTB post. I’ve helped out a lot of folks there and received a few myself. Definitely get a CPK.

I have a survive 3.5 that was supposed to be “60 days” out. It was closer to 400 days. Wanted to hate the knife because of the headache. But I will say, it’s awesome and my favorite heavy duty small fixed blade.

Survive runs a “over promise and under deliver” business model which is disappointing because the most recent quality is high and I would consider close to CPK standard.

If you have a big trip in the next 5 years that you want an awesome knife for, don’t order a survive. Because you won’t have a knife to survive with. Oh the irony

Do these knives hold up as well as people like DBK say they do?
I can't attest to current production but the GSO and SK knives were/are awesome. They're tough, comfortable in extended use, and the edge just goes and goes. The S7 in the original SK knives was my favorite to abuse and it took a nice patina.

That's S!K's greatest problem: The knives are pretty amazing but if you can't/won't get them into customers' hands then what difference does it make? And if you manage to honk off the largest portion of your potential market then it doesn't matter if you make the singularly finest knife that's ever been made, nobody is going to want it.

Everyone in this forum says to get a CPK ignoring the fact they're damn near impossible to actually get without paying $100 over MSRP for one second hand. Would love one but sadly will probably never own one since I just don't have the energy to wait until they're running the model of knife I want and then to wait for exactly the right time on a Friday to probably be out commented by a bot.
….still easier than the 7 year wait some have. I don’t have or need a CPK but would go that route long before I bought even a secondhand Perish! blade of recent production.

This simply isn't true. Or, why all the people that do have them?
Because they remembered the exact time of the sale and got lucky that their internet just happened to load the forum page faster than the dozens of other people attempting to buy the same batch of knives? I wouldn’t say a whole lot of people have them either, I barely see them even mentioned outside this forum. They certainly seem a lot less common than comparably priced brands like winkler, CRK, busse, etc.

lol, yeah when you want to buy something and it is offered at a specific time, it sure helps to remember what time that is. And you only see them here because they are sold here to members who care enough to figure out how to buy them. Look, I'm no internet drop expert and I'm shooting about 500 on my attempts to buy a CPK when a batch comes around that I'm interested in. I've also pre ordered one and bought once on the secondary. I've also sold one. If you really want one, you'll get one. And there are no bots taking up spots. Winkler, crk, busse are all much bigger operations.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses. Now get out there and get one! Or don't, more for the rest of us 😁

I will one of these days when I once again have the money to spend $300+ on knives lmao

January 2023 update. Now that we know that Survive! counts refunded orders as "Complete", we can't tell how much progress they actually make on older orders. One thing for sure is that they barely fulfilled their backlog again, despite all of the "progress" videos they've shown in the last few months. They didn't post an update in December 2022, so this is after 2 months.

They also decided to remove overall progress from the Production schedule. I have no idea why they would want to do that.

2015: 0.3% in 2 months
2016: 0.7% in 2 months
2017: 0.0% in 2 months
2018: Complete
2019: 1.7% in 2 months
2020: 3.3% in 2 months
2021: 1.9% in 2 months
2022: 3.4% in 2 months

Lies!! You get a knife in mere months if you ask nicely!!

Lies!! You get a knife in mere months if you ask nicely!!

I didn’t ask nicely. I just reached out to them last year, and asked how long it would take to get the knives. I got them within the timeframes that they told me that I would. That said, they never responded to any of my emails or voicemails after I placed the initial order. They did send an email last week though, telling me that my GSO-8 was being shipped.

I will say this though. I was not aware to the extent that people are still having issues with receiving their knives when is placed my order last year. And I’m sorry that this has happened for so many of you. This thread is new to me, and I cannot read through 160 pages, but I get the gist.

I saw that your original thread was locked so I thought I'd ask here....was this an "in stock" knife or similar?

Yes people get a bit vitriolic about Survive, but Survive has earned all of it. I'm happy they got yours to you and that you think it is a good knife. I've never had an issue with their knives themselves, only their lies around their ability to deliver and that shouldn't be directed to you, it is Guy's doing.

Thanks - again, had I known about this thread, I’m not sure that I would have posted anything about receiving the knife today.

No - both were preorders from their website. When I initially contacted them, I was told that the 4.5 would be very quick, but the 8 would likely take close to a year. If I remember correctly, the person who helped me asked what options that I wanted for the 4.5, because some things were already not available. I think the bow drill divot on the 4.5 sheath was an upsale by her, and something that I may never use, but I’m glad that I got it.

I was sent an email about 4-6 months ago saying that they had some overstock GSO-12s, but I could never get them to respond back to my email responses or voicemail about it.

EDIT: here is what was sent to me on 7/18/22 about the GSO 12:

GSO-12
$469.00
Preordering has been closed for the GSO-12 but the limited number of extras will be available after existing preorders have been fulfilled.

Maybe there are still some that are unclaimed because I know that they still have to ship some of the 12s. But I couldn’t get any more information.

They are lying scumbags. They rely on the uneducated to send them in $s and wait at least a year for what is just a bolt together knife (not like the scumbag is hand grinding each one). Get it made, bolt on the handles slip it in a sheath and mail it on out. Speculation alone says that their own suppliers are requiring upfront payment for goods/services so you pay up front for what should be an off the shelf production knife. The BIG seller for Perish! Knives was the use of the Delta HT on their 3V but even those poor souls who ordered that won’t get it now nor will anyone else.

You don't have to read every page. Just look at the production schedule I posted yesterday. Those numbers are directly from Survive!

I'm sure their knives are well made. But it's coming on a decade for some people waiting based on their production numbers. In 1 year, they completed 1% of their outstanding 2015 orders.

Yeah, that’s not acceptable. I just had no idea when I placed my orders. I only had heard about them from some YouTube videos where the owners were saying that the 5.1 was the best knife they’d ever had. So I went to the website and sent them an email. They got back to me, and I placed an order. In the past 10 months I’ve been made aware that some people had to wait long periods for the larger knives, but I had no idea to what extent this was happening.

But aside from the company, these knives are very nice. I own a lot of high end items, even some custom knives, and these are some of the best I’ve ever touched. So the wait was totally worth it in my case…but had it been 6-7 years, there would be no reconciling that.

It looks like they also show their production with a pie chart representation. It doesn’t make any sense that there should be any open orders from years and years ago still. According to their website, they say that the 12” and 10” knives were way harder to finish up to their standards. I have no idea about that, but I wonder if the older incomplete orders are all the big knives.

No idea. But the issue is that they have posted numerous videos saying that their older orders were on deck to be finished in a few weeks/months. Flash forward a few months and it's the same statement. Flash forward a few years and it's the same statement.

Of course, there's always something that comes up like bad heat treats, bad sheaths or a family emergency that is the real problem.

I'll stick with reputable manufacturers.

Yeah - they certainly aren’t helping themselves by having these kind of crazy back orders. I doubt I would have ordered from them had I known. That said, I really like the knives.

Thanks for the info.

I have seen them indicate they have knives "in stock" as well as pre-orders with lead times they quote in months. I've wondered how quickly they fill those, since they are not truthful about much of anything and they have a lot of older orders they've left unfilled. Quite surprising they met their commitment in your case, especially since you seem to be just a regular customer and not an influencer.
