Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Okay, I'm pulling back a bit on my last post. I get it that Mr. Hogg didn't know that he was purchasing a knife from a bunch of scamsters. There's nothing wrong with being oblivious to that especially when apparently he spun the magical Guy wheel of fate and actually got what he ordered in a timely manner. I can't imagine why he would want to spin the wheel again but if he wants to you pays your money and you takes your chance. Personally I try to not support companies that are renowned for their bad character with my discretionary income. Buying on the secondary market mitigates that although again I wouldn't bother to own their products, not when there are so many alternatives produced by quality companies. Also, if he didn't know about survive I'm sure he doesn't know about bark river and their shenanigans.

I’m not about to throw $600 worth of perfectly good knives in the trash.
Nor should you- keep them, use them. Live long and prosper.
That way you can get rid of a knife from this terrible company and get something comparable and of equal value, and I can complete my collection without giving them another dollar.
Sounds like a good compromise to me, but really it’s not about me trying to convince you what you need to do; I’m just trying to help you understand why your posts seemed to go sideways.

Well then we'll do this tempura style. Just a light battering.
Just a little pain-ko?

So Bark River is bad as well? See - how am I just supposed to know this? I watch YouTube videos, and people praise their knives.

Okay - my other favorite knives are are Spyderco, Cold Steel, Tops, Victorinox, Leatherman, CRKT (minimalists only), and William Henry.

Are these all bad as well?

Spyderco is good to go
Cold Steel was sold to GSM last year or so they seem to be on a steep decline, old stuff is still good
Tops no experience or opinion but haven't heard anything bad
Victorinox other than being swiss are excellent
Leatherman is good to go
CRKT squid and squid XM are cool
William Henry kind of a fashion brand to me but everyone seems to like them

I try to stay away from attacking people personally unless they really do something to offend me personally.

I guess you find it funny that my feelings were hurt here. Sorry that I was honest.
What are these feelings you speak of? Must be something new the kids are doing these days. Those crazy kids.

Bark River has a history of selling knives which weren't the steel they were reported to be.
There's also a lot of QC issues and, frankly, unreasonable customer service responses.
There's lots of differing opinions on what's going on behind the scenes, but at the end of the day they're less than optimal for the amount of money they command.
At best they look incompetent, at worst they look like shysters.

If you read more in the forums you'll learn all about it.

At least they deliver them!

Since you asked..:

My wife of 18 years passed away 6 months ago due to a 4 year fight with breast cancer at the age of 46.

Just before Christmas, I had to put my 15 year old beagle down.

So yeah, I had a bad year, and I’m pretty emotionally fragile right now.

I get a knife right after the new year started that I’d been waiting for for almost year. It brought me a little joy, and I started a thread about it, hoping to share that joy with other knife enthusiasts.

Not only was I made fun of, I was accused of being a liar and a shill. Also, my joy for the knife was taken away.

I realize that this is not the place to discuss such matters, and I apologize for making it public.

But I’m just trying to point out that you never know who’s on the other side of that keyboard, and yes, I was hurt by how I was treated here. If it makes you feel any better, I’m crying right now. Go ahead and make fun of that as well.

Sorry to hear you're going through it, we all take a turn in the box from time to time, there are better days ahead.

Best piece of advice I can offer you is don't hand control of your emotions over to other people. That goes double for strangers online.

Not sure how you thought this was going to shake out, the company that made those knives screwed a lot of people and there are 160+ pages of distain for them. We are supposed to overlook that because you got yours? Enjoy your knives in good health, I haven't heard anyone say they are bad knives, perhaps this just isn't the place to get validation on that particular purchase.

My sincere condolences. I lost my mom end of 2021 and "my" dog last fall (a 7 year old mastiff girl), so I know how it feels.

All these guys here are great, just sensitive around a couple of brands, understandably so. I've been burnt by BR myself once. Don't take it too seriously, I suggest to leave it alone and explore some other BF areas for a little while. And go chop something with that new knife of yours ! :)

Sincerely,

Roland.

My condolences. Hang in there. Things will get better.

Again, I had no idea about this thread until I made my new thread. The only reason that I entered this thread is because my thread was being mocked in this thread, and I felt the need to defend that I was neither a liar nor a shill. My thread was shut down because of how people were acting on it, and I never got to discuss the actual knife with other knife enthusiasts like I wanted to do.

So how was I supposed to just inherently know that Survive is thought of this way when I had never heard such things? Again, all I knew was that some YouTubers complained about very long wait times.

I made a thread about my Demko collection a while back and it was a very nice experience. I was expecting the same thing here.

The only reason that I joined Blade Forums last year was to have a positive escape into one of my hobbies. I was just looking to make friends and share my love of knives. I never expected to have this kind of reaction. It’s totally fine with me to be told that Survive is a bad company, and that I shouldn’t support them. My issue is that I was personally attacked, when I never have said a negative word to anyone on this forum.

I’m done. I apologize for taking up so much of this thread, and for stating my private affairs.

I have two of their knives in hand, and they’re awesome knives. I got them within the timeframe that I was told that I’d get them. When I ordered the knives, I was unaware of this thread. Yes, I would like to add a 12” to my collection. I don’t know how to say it any more clearly than that.
Oh, I clearly understand what you are saying.

After knowing these people are thieves and con artists who take money from new customers to pay back old customers with product promised long ago (and not the same product they originally paid for), you still want to own their knives. Got it.
