Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

……I am conflicted about that thread having re-read it (I followed it live at the time), not sure if it is hilarious that almost NOTHING has changed (I hope Lance got his $s back) or sad beyond belief people are still lapping up their BS.
It’s probably mostly new buyers who don’t know the history, and a few shills who’ve been lucky enough to get what they ordered in less than a year. It’s the same thing with the cash-grabbing ‘free’ mobile games - after a few months, players catch onto how they rope you in to spend, spend spend. By the time they figure it out and close their wallets,, there’s a whole new wave of players whales with credit cards at the ready. Face it, Guy tells a nice story - if you’ve never heard it before. Anybody hearing his line for the first time will likely give him the benefit of the doubt and hand their money over, especially if they haven’t been on their FB page. Or here.

That is exactly who it is. Guy has leveraged YouTube and worked with a few "influencers" to promote his product. He HEAVILY moderates social media, and a lot (most?) of his new customers have no idea that the S!K train-wreck has been ongoing for a decade.

What's the deal with that? I can't like things here anymore either! Its only this sub forum.
People weren’t behaving in the exchange, putting laugh reactions on sales posts. Mom and Dad took the reaction buttons away. Now I have to decide how funny something is- if it’s worth throwing some emoji’s in a reply. What a hassle.

A decade of Guy, sitting around after hours… trying to figure out how he should break the news… if he should break the news. He was probably advised against it, but he decides time and again to put himself on the line and tell people who’s fault it is that they aren’t getting their knives.

Just one man, alone in the knife world, trying to right the injustices of the knife manufacturing community. Seeking truth and perfection.

What a joke. You’d think that no one else in the whole world is able to build a quality knife.

Many people have been giving them hell on DBK and they have warned people about Survive Knives. Guy is banking on advertising outside the box because people who did business in the past are no longer doing re-orders. Someone really needs to create a rant page on FB to warn the people.

Except in sales threads if you reply positively without it being an offer they get removed.

You have been Voluntold for that job. (volunteered by others).

Checked to see if Survive updated their Production Schedule and they did not. They're going on 4 months with no update. I did find this update to be hilarious considering they posted it on 1/2/2022. :D

I really doubt that they are competent enough to actually calculate order fulfillment numbers... However, I doubt that the "real" numbers are better than what they post.

They couldn't decide whether to adopt the Gregorian or Julian calendar...so they opted for the Guyan calendar...and it seems to work for them.

The folks still placing orders appear to be operating on the lunar lunatic calendar.
You're in top form today, Blues.

Figures, morons ruining it for everyone else.

Ahh, the good old poor customer service threads on the archived survive subforum. Always good for an entertaining read.

Some thoughts: If you total the revenue at 50% net for the qty of blanks shown in videos it's not enough to survive (pun intended) by my calculations. They somehow got loans - I'm guessing pre-order revenue on the books - and inept banking underwriters. My guess is they're also highly leveraged at this stage using the "pyramid" money to keep from defaulting on the payments and to live off personally. There is most certainly more than one loan or even lender. So the "quasi" in pyramid as I view it is in their ability to have acquired those self reported loans and sustain payments to keep from defaulting.

I'm shocked it has gone on for as long as it has but it still seems like only a matter of time before it crumbles with this most recent move. Again, opinion.

Best I can tell they have some material, cut blanks and a pallet of sheet steel. More than some equipment. A much larger (inexpensive) rental space than needed, about the same size as Chris Reeve Knives at what looks like about 7,000 s.f. Then there are 2 full time employees. Two part time professional chef employees. And yet another "promise" to hire a clerical person.

As a career entrepreneur I'll write that there isn't anything that can't be solved with money. Nothing. They have no money. Each morning he awakes to a juggling act or game of whack a mole to try to decide what bills to pay with the severely limited resources he commands. Many days he's probably paralyzed into barely getting anything done by the depressing situation he continues to make for himself. It's clear from their complete lack of ability to solve their problems. Example: with money they could just wipe all backlogs off the books by refunding customers, call it a day and reboot. With money he'd have all the staff in the world to run a viable concern. It's clear he barely has the financial resources to keep the electricity on. It has been years of this. I cannot fathom what it's like for him to live like this. He must get Niagara, Peter's Heat Treat, his sheath maker and supplier of micarta paid or he doesn't continue. Somehow that's actually happening.

My opinion: Guy is not getting rich off this situation. He isn't choosing for it to be like this. What is clear is that he and his girlfriend? are completely out of their depth when it comes to running a business. That includes many things, not the least of which is honoring commitments, setting proper customer expectations, doing the honorable and proper things and the list goes on and on for years. I am NOT an apologist or fanboy. What I don't think is that he's inherently ill intentioned or a thief. I do believe he is conducting himself dishonorably as a self made victim of his own circumstances. Look at the actual history of Charles Ponzi. He seemed to really believe he could make things right, while becoming fabulously wealthy. That's not the issue here.

Where and from whom he's getting orders and pre-orders is still the biggest question I have. His costs on a knife, materials (steel, screws, micarta), outsourced sheaths and heat treating, payments on equipment, must add up to fixed + variable costs of 50% or higher on less expensive/lower revenue variants. He's probably nailed his sweet spot at the 5.1. Best revenue for price and amount of labor involved. But who is ordering this stuff?

FB marketing is dead or dying for him.
His YouTube fanboys are dwindling.
This forum has long ago shut him down.
There is 0 dealer network.
He's got no significant money for marketing anywhere.

So where? And by that I mean in consistent quantity to remain in business. It's a humongously large world so who who knows?

It has been 10 years of this. It's just the way it will continue until it doesn't. One day we may find out he just couldn't hold it together any longer and it all imploded. Until then, just more of the same. We will all just shake our heads and wonder who placed a pre-order? Who didn't demand their money back after 2 years of waiting.

I wrote this stream of consciousness style on a phone. My apologies if not organized.
I think out of everyone on here you hit the nail on the head. People were trying to swarm me on here cause I gave an honest opinion. I rolled the dice and I got my knife. Was it nice? Yes, yes it was. With that said, I think Guy is a good knife maker, but he is really, REALLY, bad at managing his business. He is in over his head, and he refuses to hire people or bring in folks to teach him how to run his business properly. He needs to get those old orders out before he ships anymore newer knifes. Those folks need to be at the top of the list!

Thanks for the laugh to start my day.

The "Guy" can't deliver a paint by # kit knife assembled from supplied parts. You wait weeks for a McDonalds cheese burger and them marvel at the quality.

You could go to any page in this 202 page thread, change the date to today and you'd be right where we are today- Not delivering knives in a timely manor and blaming everyone but yourself for your failure.

You had to beat on their door for 3 months after waiting 3 months to get an "In Stock" knife. Enjoy- Just hope you don't need any after sales support from them.
Honestly you wouldn't have these hurt feelings if you didn't try to get a knife from him yourself. Anyone that does a review on the knife has zero issues with it. The problems aren't with the knife, it's with Guy who cannot run his business properly. I knew something was up when his girlfriend admitted to me in a letter to being the only office person who is also out on the floor helping to box and send orders. Hard to have customer service when there is nobody hired for that spot. To little butter spread over far to much bread, and that's just the tip of the ice berg.

What customer service? S!K literally has NO customer service! The only person that does that role is Guy's girlfriend who is also boxing and sending orders, then tries to email people at night. He should hire some people and stop working his woman like a government mule.

He already is, and it’s just a bolted together fixed blade. There’s really nothing he’s doing that Carothers isn’t already doing, except Carothers gets outstanding knives into the hands of its patrons on time and they are an outstanding member of the knife community. S!K doesn’t know what they’re doing and doesn’t bother to show their face around here anymore.

Survive! Knives is a waste of time and money.
Correction, but Carothers has their Delta Heat Treatment. Survive Knives has their blades treated by Peter's Heat Treatment. So not only are they doing what S!K is doing, but they heat treat their own blades as well and from what I've seen do a fantastic job at it. I wasn't coming on here to sound like a S!K fanboi lets get that out of the way right now. I love their knife designs, so much that I gambled 280 bucks in the hopes that it would pay off and lets be honest here, buying from them is a gamble. Mine paid off. Would I order from them again? Hell no...
