Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

It's just a heat treat protocol that works better than every other heat treat protocol for the intended purpose.

Some day another tweak may supersede it. Most likely it'll be discovered by Nathan.

In the meantime, it's the best we have. You are welcome to disagree.
I actually just noticed that and renewed it.

The difference between Delta and other forms of low temp tempers on 3v are going to perform very similarly at the same hardness. Show me some Catra and Charpy impact testing results proving it works better than all others . Seems like Delta is a good HT, it is one of many good 3v heat treatment protocols. The hype of Delta outruns the reality IMO. Before I even knew what delta was I did a lower temp temper because I did not want to lose corrosion resistance (which happens at the 900ish degree temper the datasheet calls for) to gain a point of hardness. I would be more than willing to produce a 3v coupon to put up against a delta heat-treated coupon for some real testing on calibrated equipment. To my knowledge, I have not seen such testing.

Sorry for the off-topic.

To the Survive victims that are looking for a good knife I have a few recommendations.
1. CPK
2. William Collins knives are some of the best I've seen even their AEB-L with the special heat treat is tough enough to hack antlers and not chip.
3. LT Wright makes great knives and the Forrest Trail is on sale right now in 3V and I have the lluminous 5 and it is a great design.

I understand that some are steel snobs but in actual use you won't be able to tell in real world use from tweaking of certain steels.
I can't tell the difference from S30V from S35VN in real use and I can't tell the difference i 3V from Delta 3V.
There are some that say 4V is not tough enough for their needs and claim they need the 3V or Delta 3V level of toughness. I've seen 4V choppers at blade shows that act like a chisel to a 2x4 and not have edge damage. Magnacut is on the same level at 4V yet some will turn their nose up and say I gotta have this or that to sharpen a stick or they can't survive without 3V.
At the end of the day it is your money and you should do what makes you happy. I have a few steels that I will bank my adventures on and none in any certain order.
Magnacut, AEB-L, 3V, and A2 will clean game, woodcraft, and tool making without issues. Will they fail at some point "maybe" but if I get 5 or more years out of it I got my moneys worth if they do. Note I have not had a knife fail on me yet in those steels. I've had S30V from fallkniven chip on me from trying to get a fire going when I went out hiking for a few days. I had to use the edge to strike a ferro rod after my Bic failed on me. It seems all the gas leaked out somehow. I have been told that Delta 3V would not chip on a ferro rod if I had to use it for that purpose from the source so I consider that golden truth. The S1 Fallkniven still got me through the 3 day ordeal. Canterberry uses 1095 in most of his knives I believe and they seem to work for him quite well.

The main issue is having a knife with you and there is the problem of Survive Knives. How can I count on a knife to help me when I need it if it takes 5 or more years to get it. News Nugget Survive is taking orders again and saying you should expect it in several months. The Lie Detector found out that that too is a lie.

Guy I gave you many chances to do right and you just refuse and got snarky. I do in fact consider you a con man because of private messaging between us you stated you would do something over and over and you had no intent of doing so. How in blazes are people getting knives in Magnacut and 3V and every other steel when you have the same model from 2016 ect that are not done and you could care less if they do get done. The same dog and pony show here are some blanks for the select few to make it look like we are making lots of knives when in fact your running a Giant Ponzi Racket.
I really hope one day that they lock you and the people up in a state or federal prison that facilitated this mess.

S!K must be running out of money, or the flow of incoming orders is shrinking. They are spamming social media with their typical BS.

new models are coming GSO 5.3 and GSO 5.5, also 5.1 will be renamed to 5.7

New models are coming.
Old models are still coming.
There are some knives from 8 years ago that are still coming!

Their slogan might be
"Survive! Knives; coming soon"
Or better yet
"Survive! Knives; coming eventually"
Or maybe
"Survive! Knives; probably not coming"

Vladimir: “He didn’t say for sure he’d come.”
Estragon: “And if he doesn’t come?”
Vladimir: “We’ll come back tomorrow.”
Estragon: “And then the day after tomorrow.”
Vladimir: “Possibly.”
Estragon: “And so on.”
Vladimir: “The point is—"
Estragon: “Until he comes.”
Vladimir: “You’re merciless.”
Estragon: “We came here yesterday.”
Vladimir: “Ah no, there you’re mistaken.”

Omfg! Not what I was expecting at blade forums today. Well done.

Against all odds, an August 2023 update. Now that we know that Survive! counts refunded orders as "Complete", we can't tell how much progress they actually make on older orders. They haven't posted an update in since April 2023. Lots of things apparently happened which delayed their production, but I'll let the numbers speak for them. 4 months!!!

They also decided to remove overall progress from the Production schedule. I have no idea why they would want to do that.

They included progress on new orders in 2023.

2015: 0.0% in 4 months
2016: 0.1% in 4 months
2017: 0.0% in 4 months
2018: Complete
2019: 2.6% in 4 months
2020: 0.3% in 4 months
2021: 1.1% in 4 months
2022: 2.4% in 4 months
2023: ???

I ordered a Reiff F6 with micarta handles to compare to my Survive! GSO 5.1. The Reiff arrived with an improperly ground edge, it is set back about 1mm halfway down the edge (going to return it to either the vendor or Reiff). I am pissed, for that much money the knife should arrive without such an obvious problem.

I too am waiting on a Magnacut 5.1 that I ordered last September, and I was also lucky to grab a ready to order (ceracoated) magnacut 5.1 that showed up within a week. Survive has definite back log issues, but Guy at least will not ship a blemished/second without acknowledging it and giving a discount. The GSO 5.1 I have on hand is 100% perfect from the factory, that much can be said for sure.

I had to look close at the edge but I see what you're talking about. I can understand why you would be pissed.
