Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

I dont like Carothers designs. Dont like thumb ramp and that stuff.
I don't dig the ramps either many of their models are no go for me, but their Kephart doesn't have one and is delightful.

Also, I don't think it has ever taken 8+ years for CPK to deliver an order....

In Stock: GSO-5.1 Factory 2nds

The assembly bench has been getting a lot of use lately! In addition to yesterday's announcement we also have a small batch of GSO-5.1 Factory 2nds built. Those are in stock and will ship within the next few days.

LOL! Every thime same move. They will actualy sell this batch as factory seconds, and none of people who preordered knife will get one.

Guy just wasn't feelin' it that run.

The power company faltered causing a surge in speed of grinder, the bolts weren’t properly threaded, the rivets and kydex didn’t match, there was a hurricane off the coast of Aruba, there is war going on, etc…. Never going to be his fault. 🤪

I am not a metallurgist/knife maker/technician and can only speculate….. I certainly would not put it past Lying Guy to buy himself some “budget” or “runout” steel stock that may or may not be what it is supposed to be or perhaps better said is not the quality it is supposed to be and that then flows onto the HT process etc. Peters have a pretty damn good reputation in the industry so it is odd that it would be poor old Lying Guy that their whole stuff up landed on….I mean what are the odds ?

LITERALLY THIS

If it was anybody else I could understand… But over and over and over again he seems to always have these epic failures that no one else has - i can’t buy it.

They should settle old debts by offering some additional accessory or small form of compensation, and offer the factory seconds to people who never got one.

How do you do a “run” of factory seconds?

You make “seconds” on purpose? Baffling.

I think out of everyone on here you hit the nail on the head. People were trying to swarm me on here cause I gave an honest opinion. I rolled the dice and I got my knife. Was it nice? Yes, yes it was. With that said, I think Guy is a good knife maker, but he is really, REALLY, bad at managing his business. He is in over his head, and he refuses to hire people or bring in folks to teach him how to run his business properly. He needs to get those old orders out before he ships anymore newer knifes. Those folks need to be at the top of the list!
I didn’t know anything about their shady ways and ordered one after the DBK Boys video. I only found out about his practices after the delivery day came and went. It was supposed to be three months. So at four months, I started to complain. By five months, I threatened to revoke it through PayPal and place a claim against him. Well after a lot of back-and-forth and personally texting me and sending me personal videos, he came through. I couldn’t believe it actually came through! Magnacut GS0 5.1 - delivered in 5 months. Absolutely astounding

The knife? Absolutely stunning. And SO sharp I could spell my name in cursive in a piece of paper. And yes I tried. Again it’s not the knife, it’s the person who runs the company.

But alas I am one of the lucky ones. While I am grateful, I don’t feel right having a business with him but what’s done is done. Furthermore, I am very happy to have one especially considering what everybody else went through; however as someone else stated if I ever have a warranty issue - God help me.

Bottom line: I’ll never buy from them again.

I have always done a version of Delta HT on 3V and Cruwear. I was not willing to sacrifice a significant level of corrosion resistance for a modest hardness bump. The strange thing with those steels is the data sheets all called for the high temp temper (secondary hardening), I checked with a metallurgist friend (many of you know) and he told me it was totally not necessary. I temper those steels around 350 and they are great. Delta is just a marketing spin on a pretty typical HT protocol.

The Delta protocol was not and has never been about improving corrosion resistance. That's a happy side effect.

If you're getting a higher hardness with a secondary hardening hump you might be doing something wrong.

If you're having to temper down at 350 to get the hardness you're looking for, you might be doing something wrong.

The intent of the low temperature tweaks is to avoid the softer weaker martensite and mixed microstructure of the secondary hardening hump but it comes at the risk of stabilized retained austinite. Material condition going into heat treat, quench rate, quench depth and timing of cryo steps is critical and some of it is counterintuitive.

None of this is secret and none of this is special news. But, for sure, a manufacturer that is quenching an unground blank might struggle to reach the quench rate they need at the edge, and someone who is grinding hard and sharpening dry could easily run into issues overheating the edge. But there is more to the Delta protocol than this. And I'm not going to explain it to you.

But if you were going to claim that "the Delta protocol is heat treat marketing spin on a pretty typical heat treat", I'm going to call you full of shit because you don't know what you're talking about. You have not honestly and objectively evaluated it. You might not even be able to. You're full of it.

We are the current national and world bladesport cutting champions, and we did it with our own production blades. You don't achieve that without really having your act together. We are the best in the world at what we do and that's no joke. And I don't appreciate you suggesting otherwise when I'm quite certain you don't know what you're talking about here.
