Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

He is stupid enough to believe that, but he has the AG's of three states plus big brother currently interested in him. They will get scooped up at some point, It will be fun to watch his brain break when his previous partner in crime turns on him to protect herself. Bankruptcy doesn't protect you when filed to try and escape defrauding thousands of people.
I don't think he is stupid at all. I think he is a cunning and experienced grifter who knows exactly what he is doing.
He has stolen small amounts of money from many people, the sort of sums that people are almost certainly going to write off than go to court over.

I have seen far more egregious cases than this get passed over because the bandwidth of the prosecuting authority is taxed to the limit. This has being going on in one form or another for almost 10 years and still there is no direct AG involvement.
The wheels of justice grind very slowly and cases like this can quickly be abandoned.

Bankruptcy does protect you from creditors, that's what it is designed to do. Certainly in this case it would be complex but you are talking years.........many years to unravel this mess and creditors would have to undertake to hold the financial liability if the costs exceed the collected assets. If I was a creditor for a $150 knife I would not do it.

If the company is structured correctly they could, in theory, walk away with no liability. Especially when they can put forward a credible case that the company relied on specialist vendors and suppliers and they let the company down. A case they have been developing in the past few weeks.

Then why are you here? Guy's a big boy, so by your logic, you don't need to be here shilling for him, right?

These ankle-biters, I tell you what. If they didn't have double standards, they'd have no standards. LOL

Okay, but let's use an example of raising a toddler. Young kids don't understand right from wrong. They learn what is right and what is wrong. Can't really blame them for being little shits until they have been taught the difference between right and wrong. So here we have Guy. He's been told over and over again that what he is doing is not right. For years and years. He's admitted as much. They committed to stop the preorder thing because they knew the appearance of taking money and not delivering is wrong. So even after being told what they are doing is wrong and even after committing to change what they are doing because they can see it is wrong, they go right back to the wrong behavior when it benefits them. A toddler has a better understanding of how to deal with right and wrong than guy does. Survive continues the wrong behavior despite knowing it is wrong. Even if everything is someone else's fault, survive would have to have learned that the wrong thing to do is take preorders, after 10 years of being told it is wrong. Imagine if it took 10 years for a toddler to get the basics of right and wrong.

He knows.

Oh, and he's also a convicted felon.

My guess is that they have structured the company to be able to place it into bankruptcy, walk away and bear none of the loss.

I can't help thinking that the current contentious situation with suppliers and vendors is all about setting up a credible defence against those who may try and bring criminal charges.

These are obviously very competent grifters who will continue the con until the last cent has been rung out of it.
I think we are all underestimating them.
We tend to think that Survive has been a dismal failure, but if generation of income with as little work or risk is the metric, they are a huge success.

Well, the issue is that it's NOT cool. It just feels like all the other knives those three companies make. Oh snap, TI bolsters, M390 blades, and thin cover material slabs with the same exact action. Sweet*! Every year at BLADE, you stop by all these tables, and see all these small companies showing off knives that, when you see the materials list, you know immediately "This is Chinesium." and then you pick it up, actuate the knife and you're able to narrow it to specific vendors "Oh, Reate made this" because (as an example) all Reate-made knives feel the exact same in both function, as well as the overall finish. It's always been hilarious to me that two or three companies are making something like nearly 50% (more like 70% + of the folders) of the knives on the floor at BLADE every year.

There's a specific guy I have in mind who admitted that he didn't even know how to design slipjoint actions, he just had the Chinese OEM do it. Like, where's your pride? It's such a bullshit tourist thing to do. "Well, I've always wanted to be a knifemaker and own a knife company!" Yeah, so put in the work, learn how to make knives, and grow your skills to the level where people are clamoring for your work. What? All that's too hard and you just sent some drawings off to Gongbong and now you're receiving crates of knives, where all you have to do is remove the "Made in China" sticker off the blade and sell them? Oh, ok, do that then, I guess. 🤷

* Except not.
“Same exact” is redundant and has been for more than my 68 years. It neuters any argument I read.

Holding criminals to task is very difficult. That’s part of the reason why criminals take their chances and operate with impunity (psssst, see: politicians).

Except “same” and “exact” are two words that mean the same thing but are not exactly the same. The combination is used emphatically and appears in all sorts of informal text, including published novels.

Irregardless, this is the exact same kind of distraction, hoping for, Guy has.

New video on YouTube showing some close ups of the issues.

Things I took away from it were he’s not cutting his blanks with the edges parallel to the rolling direction which will give reduced toughness. He legit said “he has a high level of confidence in what’s occurring we just have to figure out what that is” which gave me pause to say wtf. He claims that when the sheets are rolled they’re rolled in two directions then one direction at the end I don’t know if this is the case first I’ve heard that.

Edit: He keeps going on about his quality standards but when you cut your knives in a way that will lead to less toughness how is that quality?

If I practiced my instrument as much time as guy spends making videos about things that have gone wrong, I’d be famous.

This isn't "only fans". We don't discuss playing with our instruments here.

Good luck with your new career in porn. Sounds like you're on your way to future stardom.

This woman got all upset at me the other day because of my career in the adult film industry.
I said, "listen lady, this is 2024 and if you don't like it, I recommend you sit somewhere else on this bus".

Does anyone know if this crash-and-burn is being discussed on any of the 'bushcraft' forums?

Yes there is a thread on it there, but not nearly as many pages as here ha. Not sure if I can post a link to another forum, but if you search around the common “bushcraft” forum, you should check out the edges tools sub forum.

out of curiosity, what's their general take on it?

From what I’ve read, it’s mixed, from neutral to negative. Seems to be a handful willing to give S!K the benefit of the doubt and continuing to take a wait-and-see approach, and another camp that’s fully aware of Guy and his bullshit. I’ve seen several references to this thread, which some are heeding and some are not. I don’t see any blatant shills over there, but I’m concerned by the number of people thinking there might be something to Guy’s claims and Crucible having issues, despite it being brought up repeatedly that S!K is the only one complaining about it.

The same as here. Guy is full of it and slinging everything against the wall to see what sticks. Nothing wrong with cpm from the makers there who are familiar with it. They even recently linked this thread at bladeforums. Some makers talking bad about SURVIVE’s processes and such.

At first there was some benefit of the doubt afforded by one or two, but after going over it all, pretty much no one believes him. It’s mentioned there was one notorious bad batch of bad 3v around 2016, but no one has seen anything like that since. No one else had had any problems with magnacut like this, and some offer possible critiques of what Guy is doing in his production process. They like the creely video.

Adventure sworn chimed in and said he’d never seen anything like this with cpm steels but does remember a bad batch of 01 in the past. They talk about how no one else they know has had these issues etc. No one seems to be on team Guy after going through the details

In his recent Afternoon Update: 2.20.2024 video @0:57 he says, and I quote "That's always been the goal. In-stock availability". What about the hundreds of preorders from years ago? Why is that not a priority? They have been fully paid for. Oh we know why, don't we.

At this point I believe everyone should be on team "Screw S!K", but I'm willing to offer the olive branch to the "I'm new here, I'll wait and see" group.
What I don't understand is the group that somehow is convinced that Guy's just a victim of a billion problems which were not his fault.

If someone gave him the benefit of the doubt, yeah, I'm sure Guy was looking forward to "In-stock availability".
His problem was that he thought he was going to get there on preorders.

Multi-year interest-free preorders (loans) weren't even enough to help him get off the ground.

GIVE UP GUY. THE JIG IS UP!
