Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Please STOP believing the things Guy says. Since he started S!K in 2013, he has been saying things that are not true. Any discussion about the issues Guy claims to be having has to take this into consideration. Also, remember that he is THE ONLY MANUFACTURER having these issues. Again, no one else has the voids / inclusions / (insert random excuse) that Guy is having. NO ONE.

S!K has consistently had "issues" since day one. Guy is the common denominator.

Sorry for the delayed response. What do I think Crucible's role could be in all of this, assuming the voids and inclusions are not Survive's fault? If Crucible did not do enough testing (note I did NOT say they didn't do any testing) on the recommended heat treating protocols, I think that could affect things. Perhaps the composition is slightly off. Sufficient testing should reveal that. Think of it like this: Thomas and Crucible discover that Magnacut has great potential not only as a knife steel but also the business impact it could have. Very eager to get this to market before their competitors come up with something similar or better, they take an aggressive path to get this out to market. And when there is pressure to get a product to market enormous pressure will be to shorten the amount of time devoted to testing.

But all of that is just speculation on my part. I still think NSM might be on the hook for the voids and inclusions ( if they are equivalent terms in the knife-making world let me know ). If you look at one of Survive's videos where he posts emails from NSM, you will see they acknowledge a problem in October 2022. I have attached a screenshot of that email to this message. They mention there could be a problem with their rollers and maybe they aren't using the right temperature in heat treatment. Finally, they tell him the problem he is experiencing will go away in 2024 when they install a new furnace. To me, they have some ownership of this problem. Whether Survive is exacerbating the problem with their finishing processes also remains on the table.

For the sake of discussion, let's just say Survive is 100 percent correct - it's NSM's issue to fix. He still has to deliver the knives he's promised. And from a video I watched recently of his former shop in Idaho, he has at least a couple hundred GSO 10/12 blades he can finish and get out the door. He might buy some time with this gambit but in about six months to a year, he'll be right back to where he was before all of this happened.

Putting him out of business or putting him in jail isn't going to get the knives delivered; unless that's the whole point of this thread.

Nothing in that message you included is an admission of fault. It reads more like a goodwill gesture and an effort on NSM to do some preventative maintenance. They essentially offered to dress up the steel a bit more to save Guy some work and money because of some rough spots on the steel sheets that fell outside their normal parameters. None of that speaks to voids or inclusions - it's just NSM saying that they will give him cleaned up steel for a lower price. They offered him a bargain, not charging him for work that other knifemakers would expect to do unless they wanted to pay extra for higher finished sheets.

The point is, no admission of wrongdoing on their part, unless you're looking through colored lenses. Like Blues alluded to, it's drawing premature conclusions on a smattering of very one-sided takes.

I just checked YouTube. Guy's latest "short" video has over 9K views. That is about 5x more than usual for Guy, and it looks like it is on the way to going "viral."

This probably means an influx of $s for Guy from unsuspecting customers. It also means that in the coming months a lot of new people will get the S!K experience, and learn about the long wait and not refunds. I feel bad for these folks.

And notice Guy now has a problem with his latest steel choices from Bohler and Uddeholm.

"This is giving us the ability to absorb some of the what I believe are material deficiencies." - 1:16
You can even see how he's starting to use legally careful language surrounding these issues.

5:00 - he's talking about how he went to CRK to learn more about the people at Millit (who came from CRK) because they mishandled him as a customer so badly.
Guy will never recover or ever stop moaning about Millit.

7:30 - Reached out again to the attorney to get clarification- (gets distracted by a cat)- reveals that NSM is asking for an DNA and to pull the videos.
Guy wants the compensation, but Guy doesn't want to strike a deal. Just watch him drumming that up to be some underhanded scheme!
It's more like NSM wants to settle up to make the headache stop, but doesn't believe they're at fault!
Happens all the time.

"You being successful with the material is not evidence that someone else is not being successful with the material."
"That's like saying, I drive a toyota truck and I've never wrecked it, so nobody wrecks toyota trucks."
"That's a false equivalency."
Well THAT, sir, just shows me the educational system has let you down.

... First of all, the analogy is flawed. It would be like Toyota produced a faulty truck that some people drove off the road and wrecked because they used it in a specific way that is not frequently necessary.

Then he says other people are starting to speak up, providing some real weak statements, stating the inverse argument of what he just renounced.
... The guy can't think his way out of a paper bag.

... then he goes to say that it's process driven...
Does he understand that the implication is equally possible that what he's doing is making all the difference in Magnacut blades?

In the words of the great Napoleon Dynamite, "Friggin' Idiot!".

No need for worry, at 22:50 he assures that they are making “good progress” and most things are “wrapping up.”

You can trust him this time. It's 99.99% ready to ship. Just waiting on some packaging tape since the last batch didn't have enough adhesive.

You missed in under the microscope when he said he has a high level of confidence in what’s occurring we just have to figure out what that is. Which made me stop and think what did he say???

Putting him out of business or putting him in jail isn't going to get the knives delivered
Guy staying in business isn't doing that either. At the very least, Survive no longer taking orders would prevent more people from being added to the "your knife will be done tomorrow" scam.

But if he does end up closing shop virtually any read of his history would show that he put himself out of business.

He’s the worst kind of speaker.
He’s doesn’t think about what he’s saying and compensates by saying a lot.

Kind of the antithesis of his knife production philosophy, which is to have impossible standards and produce nothing.

Yes, this.

The part that really made it crystal clear to me was...
... if he'd just fronted the cash to make knives then sell them...
...... he wouldn't have this insane multi-year backlog.

People complaining they can't buy his product because they sell out too fast is some good free marketing.
People complaining that they bought a product and he didn't deliver is bad press.

And his current woes about warpage and all of that... it's all related.
Guy jumped into the deep end before he could swim.
He didn't know what he was doing then, and continues to flounder to catch his footing.

But remember, E El_Bribon is definitely not here to defend Guy or Scumbag! Knives, he said so himself.

🤣
