Bad Survive! Deserves A Permanent Post In The Hall Of Shame

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

There are countless hours of reading that an outsider can do in order to catch up on the Survive! situation. I had the unique opportunity to be thrown into the middle of it all last summer. Hopefully you'd all like to hear about it.

I am the owner and operator of a small precision machine shop in Pennsylvania. I am the one that purchased the equipment from Survive! last summer.

I was looking to increase our capacity as a machine shop. Survive! had a beautiful waterjet, tumbler, blanchard, VF3, VF2, blast cabinets, and more, all perfect additions to our current capabilities. We made an offer and ended up purchasing the equipment. I then purchased a building to house all the equipment, as we couldn't even get the vf3 into our shop, and spent the last few months making that place habitable (It's in horrible condition, but cheap).

During all of this, I couldn't help but admire the quality of Survive! knives. The machinist in me truly appreciated the insane level of quality, and the business owner in me saw how and why Survive! filled a niche in the knife world. I have all the equipment, I have the fixturing, I know the process, here we go!

Introducing, Micron Knives! A knife company born from a small family owned and operated American machine shop. Our goal is precision knives, made from the best materials, with the best processes, sold with the best customer service, and never ever sold presale.

Ask me anything, but this is a Survive! thread. I'll start with some answers to questions that were never asked, but might be.

We do believe that Survive! made the best fixed blade knives we've ever handled.
We did not purchase any of the inventory, nor do we know where it is, or what will happen to it all.
We do not know what Guy is up to or where he is.
We truly believe that Guy's ultimate goal was to produce the knives that were ordered. We came across zero indications that he was intentionally scamming people. We also came across zero evidence or indications that he had made out with the money from the preorders.
The money that we paid for the equipment went directly to the lenders in accordance with state law, even covering the loans on equipment that had been previously sold and not paid off.
We only purchased the equipment, not the business. We cannot help those of you who never received their knives, and we do not believe that Survive! will ship any more knives.
I was indeed offered Guy's dog, Olive. We are inseparable. As soon as I can upload a photo I will upload one of her. She was not part of the purchase negotiations LOL.
We want to produce knives VERY similar to Survive!'s designs, as we think they were the best. Sprinkle in a little customer service and some good business practices, we think you'll like our knives.

Oh dear.

.....
......
The equipment that we purchased had liens on it that we legally had to pay directly to the lenders in order to take, which is good because he would have just taken the money and run. .....

The above two statements by you appear to be at odds.

You say the extent of your knowledge of Guy and dealings with Guy were limited to equipment purchase. And also claimed you spoke more to your lawyer during the process than Guy. Yet somehow you're certain of what Guy's intentions were and what he would or wouldn't do.......AND somehow ended up with his dog. 🤔 🧐

Forgive me if I need to ease my way in to this circle of trust.

I'd be far less suspect if your position was:

"I don't know a thing about this 'Guy' guy, but I only bought his equipment and plan to start my own knife company and plan to run it the exact opposite of what he apparently did and I have ZERO affiliation with him."

Attempting to make your start by trying to convince everyone how awesome those knives were and you want to make knives just like them is a YUGE 🚩.

Understandable, and I would expect you to be cautious. I would be lying if I said I had zero affiliation though, as I have the equipment and the dog. My relationship ended at the conclusion of the equipment sale. Our communication was very professional, even concerning Olive. If my main objective was to keep the community from being suspect, you'd have never known I bought the equipment. This is my attempt at keeping you all informed and updated.

Too much sidestepping and spin for me. I'm out.

I have no dog in this fight, just an observer of all the goings-on here. That being said, I do admire your intentions of being forthright and trying to nip any future concerns about your relationship with Guy in the bud. You have to understand that a lot of folks in this community were strung along for years and burned by S!K, and there’s just a lot of ill will toward Guy and several of his, let’s say associates, who turned out to be shills. So extreme caution is the recommendation of the day.

I personally think you’re sincere and trying to be as honest and up front as you can to put any association with Guy behind you, and I wish you the best of luck with your company. The proof, as they say, will be in the pudding. Again, as I understand the animosity from many members here, I hope they’ll wait and give you a chance before casting judgment.

Apparently, Guy doesn't have a dog in this fight anymore either.

I would admit that Survive made a good knife (on the rare occasion, they made a knife), but it was not nearly as good as Guy made them out to be. Guy obsessed over certain details but overlooked others. For instance, the blade was tumbled, but you could still see grind lines. If those are the best fixed blades you have ever handled, it is clear you have not handled many high-quality fixed blades. Take a look at a TRC, quite a few steps above Survive.

.....I also do not think that Guy has gotten what's coming to him, and that the worst is yet to come both legally and civilly.

This right here ^^^ (pulled from your other thread because the mods said we should keep Survive! discussion to this thread), THIS is why people are suspect and you either can't see it or are deliberately trying not to address it.

Your position on Guy has flipped in less than 24 hours while ALSO initially claiming you had very little dealing/contact with him. I addressed all this a few posts above and you sidestepped it there too and gave some cookie cutter "awesome customer service" answer instead.

You APPEAR to have more knowledge and contact with Guy than you initially led everyone to believe. AND you did a complete 180 on Guy's intentions and circumstances.

THAT is a key reason why people are giving you such pushback.

For someone who claims they want ultimate transparency, you're flopping and floundering pretty bad from my perspective.

I can give you evidence of what I saw with my dealings, and I can give you a personal opinion.

By me not being able to provide evidence does not mean I don't think he scammed thousands of people out of their money. Nor does it mean that he shouldn't face the consequences of his actions. I didn't see anything with my time there, but that doesn't mean I don't think he's not going to face the law.

Edit: I also think that while your intention is to get knives out, you end up scamming more people in the process.

It’s a funny thing isn’t it? All the human beings he victimized, but somehow doing that to his own dog cuts deeper.
Actually I see that as one of the very few good things he did. Maybe the only good thing. He knew he wasn’t going to be able to take care of her, so he found her a good home. Beats the hell out of surrendering her to a shelter, or a cardboard box on the side of the road.

You’re right. No winners I guess. They’re a lifetime commitment. Good the dog is being cared for and someone stepped up.

Our position is that we agree with you, but we saw no evidence in our time there. I would rather associate myself from the very start as the guy that bought the equipment, rather than it come out later and make it seem like we tried to cover that up. Feel free to ask about anything we saw.

I absolutely will! I figured people would have a good amount of S!K questions. Also thank you for the advice! The dog is well cared for, she is treated like a damn queen LOL
And to think you didn't have to tell anybody this.

I wish you luck with your new business and people will be cautious due to being burned. I for a fact know that Guy lied in emails to me and only wanted me to send in more money instead of making the knives he promised. Guy lied about time frames and former business partners even said he knew he wasn't going to make those knives past or future. He told me he was bored grinding knives and proof was in his work ethics. There would be months where nothing went out. So taking money for a products that Guy knew he wouldn't make is fraud. Guy blamed everyone in the knife world for his issues.

I guess the superstition will end when people see you make a product and get them out in a proper time frame. I wont parse your words looking for ways to lock you in with Guy's Business or accuse you of ill intent. I just hope Guy doesn't end up working for you as he is too toxic to the knife world. I mean steel makers, sheath makers, partners, customers and everyone else has been burned.

May MicronKnives and Olive thrive with your new endeavors. Thank you for giving Olive a chance to know family values.
