ETA: I kinda wonder if that blade was supposed to go into a F95NL since they have no bear logo on the blade, and both are elmax... it has the elmax etch on the other side like my F95NL. all came from a dealer with russian COAs
 
Hey guys. Need some guidance please. I think I’m close to getting another shiro. I’ve been wanting a neon. Ideally I want mrbs or washers, m390/s90v/s110v and a stand-off instead of backspacer, and no milling on the scales. I don’t think that one is made though. What are my options here and what is the keywords I’m looking for (lite, etc)?

The only NeOn that comes with a standoff instead of a back spacer is the Ultra-Lite, however, it has milling on the scales and came in S30V or Elmax. Although you can still find the NeOn on the secondary market it has been discontinued and replaced by the NeOn Zero which has no milling on the outside of the scales and comes in M390 but does have a back spacer not a standoff.

CPP CPP is our resident NeOn authority, having more-or-less cornered the US market for acquisition of that model. For my tiny portion, I've always been very pleased with my UltraLite and its single backspacer construction. I've never felt any compromise with its more pedestrian S30V blade either, as Shirogorov does such a great job with all their steels (my F3 is S30V too). I really love the way the UL and its milling pairs with my F95R too.

The UL features the one-sided Shiro lanyard attachment like the F series frame locks that I'm fond of (though others like it not so much) as it leaves the standoff exposed and the cord out of the blade path.

Of course you could always do what our friend here has and buy one of every model NeOn ever produced for the all features you want, though they'd be present on different knives. :p
 
Lol chazzy, i do like the zero with no milling and thought about converting it to a stand-off, but the relief for the lanyard wouldn’t look right then. It’s why I didn’t leave a stand-off in my hati.

I’ve had a s30v shiro and it was great steel. I have an f95 nudist in elmax and it’s done great. To be honest, I’ll never use a knife to notice the difference between it and one of the ones i listed usually. I do like m390 and just want to try one of the other two. Not to mention, I like the older blade shape of the UL.

I think I’m gonna seek out one of those to try out (and older UL). Thanks y’all!

btw, I’d love to have one of them all, but knives are my second hobby. I can’t take too much cash away from my primary hobby of car building. At least until the current project is done lol.

Wow! That looks really sweet with the cerrakote, sharpening coil, and swedge, Josh. What previous mods were done that might have caused the insert to fall out? I looks just fine with the added screw.

I'm not sure... But the mod work done was a jewelling job gone wrong :) oh, and that's just a bronze ano on the scales, and dlc on the blade

That is a terrible jeweling job but I love the color you did it.

Change of plans. A neon zero is on its way from Russia to vlad then will be on its way to me.
