The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Just got this today.

Ok, so I couldn’t leave it alone 😆. Someone had to take it down Eventually!

I like how they use thicker washers than they used too. The older washer liners were way too thin. Also like how they didn‘t mill the Carbon Fiber anymore than they had too. Hate it when makers keep the same CAD as the Ti scales and Mill out all of the CF scale, makes it crazy flexible. Shiro did not do that here, which is perfect.

I never liked the grease Shiro uses. Is it better or worse, all subjective. I like using just the tiniest bit of 10w Nano Oil and call it good. But I use some nice Krytox on the detent path. stays put and makes for a super smooth travel of the ceramic detent. Oh, the yellow bristle thingie is one of those teeth cleaners. Super small and perfect for cleaning inside the bearing race.

The only thing I dislike is the threads on the Pivot screw seem short. Wish the Pivot screw had a tad more length. Makes it feel like it’s not secure, but it is, since you can use loctite on this one with no worries.

Just my thoughts. Enjoy the pics.

Those Lines 😊

have a question, I have a Hati CD and I have been asked what the pivot collars are made from... I told him stainless steel, but I was guessing... anyone here know better?

Thanks,

Mike

Pharmagator Pharmagator , I did an advanced search on Tom's posts over at USN checking out CD Shiros-- Hati 's and some others. I didn't find anything describing their pivot collar materials, but did notice that most of them are anodized. Those would be Ti, so maybe they all are.

Like Phil, I carried my Shiro/Mayo silk-milled CF/Ti collaboration today, slipping it IWB of my gym shorts as it's so light and carry friendly. At a mere 3.125 oz, it seems a small knife in some ways and yet it packs a 99 mm blade into a compact handle that still allows for a full four finger grip with one's thumb resting securely against its flared forward end. My good Doctor shares a double storage pouch with my 100NS Tabargan, a beefy knife whose blade is barely longer just over its nominal length but has considerably more heft. Just for the heck of it, I brought the heftier knife outside for a few comparison shots in the barrow of oak I split while carrying the RDD.

ChazzyP ChazzyP Alright, now you’re just rubbing it in 😆😂

But yeah, yours is damn sweet too! Would love to snag one that wasn’t overpriced.
They are ridiculous well designed! Love everything about it 🤙

Thanks--I really didn't mean to make you feel bad, bro. 😉 The RDD was a grail for me since the introduction of the original all Ti model, but I never figured that I'd actually acquire one, given the price point. I was very fortunate that a good friend from these pages new how much I admired it, offered me first dibs on his when he broke his collection up, and let me have it at an affordable price.

Unlike what I wrote in the linked post, I do EDC the Doctor as it's really too nice a knife not to use. And just coz I've got one pic left over...

Edit: couple more pics from today over here.

That really sucks the lock insert fell out! Those are pressed in so not much you can do unless you void the warranty and drill and tap for a screw to hold the lock insert back in place. Only other option is to send back to Shirogorov. Hope you pick this up from Recon1, if not you will need to contact Shirogorov directly.

Please help…seriously.
