These special edition F3s are really nice, but I can’t see paying the premium over the F3NS though. The OG! That’s why y’all are collectors ;) BTW, I have the F3NS black carbon fiber and love it.

Okay, here is mine - looks better IRL than indoor pics...
DocJekl DocJekl , I'd say -- more than okay 🙃 It looks pretty flammable! ;)

Adamas Adamas , If you mean paying extra for the elemental F3 on the secondary market, I totally see your point.

But the MSRP seems fair -- in addition to common F3NS feature set you get Captive Pivot System, hidden clip screw, a large bead and a less common blade steel (at least for Aquatic and Terrus).

A new drop at R1: SHIROGOROV 111 GEN 5.1 – M390 BLADE – MARBLE CARBON FIBER HANDLE – $1200

Unfortunately, blade thickness is omitted, but the declared weight is extraordinary low for the model: 4.3 oz = ~122g, even with possible rounding error it should not exceed 4.4 oz = ~125g.

If the weight's correct, the knives from this batch might feature a ~2.8mm blade, which is worth a Slim title in my book 🙃

A couple of years ago Sergey was interviewed by the exclusive Russian dealer representative. They were discussing 111 and it was specifically mentioned that the design was going to change in favour of better slicing abilities.

I am going to report the actual thickness as soon as I get mine.

P.S. The blade & spacer on the last photo look rather thin, but I am not sure, that the pictures were taken recently:

Very slim and slicey looking. I’m intrigued for sure but it looks like they drop off in resale if I don’t like it. My biggest concern is the action will be more like an f3 than a f95 or Hati, which is a deal killer for me

Now that you mention it, I'm curious how others would describe the action comparison from an F3 to an F95?

To me the F3 action feels “slower“ but I know it’s not, I think it’s just because you can feel the subtle vibration of the blade in motion and all those ball bearings moving on the metal washer through the handle scales. That’s not something I feel with my F95’s or Hati’s but it’s similar with my Soft Overkill, the full scales over the Ti combined with a liner lock also give it a more muted sound in my opinion. Lockup and unlocking all feel very similar to me.

I had a chance to handle a couple of very recent F3's and Hati's -- all 4 of them were tuned great OOB, both in terms of gentle detent and silk smooth action. I kept only 1 of each kind.

My Stellar FP had the strongest detent so far, it took up to a 1000 flips to break in, and yet it is stronger in comparison to F3/Hati.

The action and sound of my 111 is somewhat different, I'd say "less impressive/satisfying" for the lack of a better term... I guess it is a side effect of a large blade paired with a carbon handle.

Can't wait to check out if the new one feels the same way.

P.S. I did not mention NeON R20, which was bought from the first owner and had already been quite broken in.

P.P.S. I agree that lock type and size could play the major role in the observed difference but it's not quite adding up since my Stellar FP has the strongest detent while featuring a pretty small liner-lock.

Very excited to report I snagged a Stellar FP off the Exchange a couple of days ago! Not much markup compared to the stock price and the owner said he was too scared to use it. I’m not going to have that problem! I’ll post a pic or two this weekend after it arrives. Cheers everyone!

F3 feels great and I’d imagine preferred by most. I might be in the minority but I love a super strong detent and snappier feeling action. My wife has trouble opening my Hati which is fine by me 😂. She’ll grab whatever knife is handy to open stuff and I’ve noticed her skipping over it for another knife.

If I try to do a super light flip on an F3 it can “misfire” and not open fully. I literally can’t misfire my Hati no matter how hard (or soft) I try. I think that’s the difference in action I’m referring to and in my mind has more to do with detent than anything. Every Shiro action I’ve felt is incredible, just a slight preference for me

Sagandavis Sagandavis , may I ask if you see any difference when flipping a Hati with your left hand?

I have noticed more than once, that an additional finger pressure on the lockbar (which is impossible for F3) does make some difference for me, especially on the first day after switching from one EDC to a Hati, before I get used to keeping my fingers from the lockbar again.

Gurwery Gurwery , thank you for the update! The 111 I already have is just a tiny bit thinner than 3mm, almost 2.9mm. AFAIK there could be some variations from blade to blade after HT and surface grinding.

I don’t notice any difference in the south paw. My fingers are trained to not put pressure on the lock bar regardless. Again, I think the main difference is detent and I think it comes from a larger lock bar that creates more pressure.

It seems to me more people prefer F3 and maybe because there’s no “technique “ required to flip it.
