The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

Got my roller bearings in from Valera (dept_13_knives) and installed them today after work. Completely changed the feel of the knife. Maybe it's in my head but the action and overall feel feels more solid. These will take some breaking in according to Valera and especially since I already had a bit of wear tracks from flipping this thing a thousand times every day so it's not freely dropping closed yet. But it's already smoother than the ball bearings. Love it even more now. Oh and bearing quality is absolute perfection.

Looks great!!

Guys, Valera seems like a good source for bearings, scales, etc. The pics of those scales above are gorgeous.

However, kindly do not provide links to KNIFEMAKER / CRAFTSMAN / SERVICE PROVIDERs who are not registered as such here at BF. One can certainly share information in posts but save links for PMs or emails. If Valera is appropriately registered here then it's perfectly OK. The same goes for DEALER / MATERIALS PROVIDER.

We need not to bother the Mods with such infractions here in the Den.

Thanks.

Thanks, Stroker--you da man, my man. We had the Mods in here quite a few pages back as there'd been some inappropriate sales chatter going on. This is such a fun thread. There are a lot of good dudes and great posts here and I just want to be sure we continue smoothly.

I can tell you from first hand experience that the rollers feel a little different than the MRBS, and even more different than the SRBS. Even before they are broken in, and you still hear or feel the texture of the finish, they are not the same. Even the different models with the same bearing system feel different.

Comparing a CD on rollers to a neon lite on mrbs both broken in, the action is difference though they are both smooth as glass.

Don't know why didn't post in the Bears Den after recieving this guy. First Shiro but certainly not the last...
Nice and smooth now JF just in case you were wondering. :D

Hey no problem just wasn't thinking when I posted. Was too excited to finally get these and pass on the info about aftermarket rollers! This thing is getting smoother by the flip! More of a controlled resistance on the close than the balls but yes very very smooth already.

Glad to hear it Dan! How many flips would you say it took to break in?

Any regrets going SRBS?

Nice pic, Dan! Congrats on that new Turtle.

Your rock shot inspired me to go back out on a damn cold, windy day before the sun set and shoot a couple pics of my new-to-me Hati, just purchased off the Exchange. She's a user, but came at a nice price, and that's what I wanted her for anyway. I recently bought a couple CRK users that were functionally excellent and it's much easier to put 'em right to work if they've already got a few beauty marks. Nothing wrong with cheaper, either.

I spent some time on this one last night, disassembling to clean and polish the washers. She wasn't flipping well when I received her but that work and two drops of NanoOil have her opening very nicely. It didn't take a lotta passes on the SharpMaker to get that M390 to a wicked keen edge. This is my first Shiro flipper on washers and the action is interestingly different--much more like a CRK. I was surprised to find she has a bushing pivot. I have a bit more work to do on her and may take the washers down .01-.02 mm each to get the blade to free-fall like my Sebenza 21s.

Put that new Shiro bead on her, too.

Hard to say but around maybe a 1000 it turned reeeeeal smooth. Really digging the SRBS. Have been carrying this guy for work and applying a fair bit of lateral force while cutting just to see how it fairs. So far. So good.

Still wouldn't mind trying that roller bearing mod mentioned earlier. :D

Got this nice leather pouch for my 111 today [emoji106] [emoji106] [emoji106]

Dont know if i should be looking at the pouch or the belt buckle.

Im guessing that when u mention a knife the king of it all in Russia would be Shirogorov.

Guys, I hate to be back right away sounding like a nag, but the last time we had sales chatter here the Mods warned of thread closure if it continued. I'd hate to see the Den get shut down, so again, please omit any sales offers or inquiries.
--Thanks, CP
