There was an issue with shipping options and R1 called after to sort it out. They told me that there was only one in the shipment. I guess that's sorta cool. I wonder if it was made from extra parts leftover from the R1 Invitational January raffle. It looks very similar, but with different inlays and different polishes.

Mail call. This morning I realized that I was in such a hurry to click "buy" with the Quantum yesterday at R1 that I failed to realize it was previously owned. So, I prolly paid a bit too much. It came with a white 2023 COA...so maybe it's sorta rare in the US. Maybe not.

I can't find a mark or defect on it other than a pretty firm detent. This puppy does not like to have it's lockbar touched AT ALL when opening. I can live with that.

The "Jungle Wear Carbon" inlays remind me of a Minecraft Creeper. Thus, I have christened it...Creeper!
 
I’m certain R1 sells things “preowned” that were sitting on their shelf and they hold a few back so they can sell it even higher than the already high msrp. Plus charge shipping, plus credit card fee unless you use PayPal friends and family… so shady

Said it before, will say it again. It’s a bummer they are the only game in town. Greedy snakes

I wonder if you are right. My new one’s detent is…not wonderful. So heavy as to be painful. My hope is that this preowned knife has yet to break in.

The Quantum detent wouldn’t happen to be adjustable, would it? If I sent it to Russia, would Shiro be willing to adjust it?

I haven’t had a quantum but the cutout and clip placement look similar to the overkill I had which has very tight detent. I didn’t mind it but could see it being undesirable.

If you do ship it to Shiro it has to go through R1… if it’s not something obvious it seriously wrong they might fight you on it.

I had a F3, brand new from R1, the detent was so weak I could wrist flick the blade out with very little effort. Unsafe in my opinion and the opposite reason I buy Shiro. They had me send it in and then called me to ridicule me that the knife was “perfect “ after much pushback they refunded me.

Don't get me wrong, it launches with authority! It would be a great fit for someone that is an occasional fidgeter. I'm a big time fidgeter though. What I found this morning that the Quantum irritated my index fingers so much last night that they hurt with the other, "regular" Shiros now. :(

I have an XM-18 that had what I called a "nuclear" detent. After a couple of months of stubborn fidgeting it finally broke in and is manageable now. Perhaps the Quantum will break in at some point. It's a beautiful knife and fits my hands well with just enough bling to satisfy my snobby inclinations.

Also found that this Quantum is .013 BTE, which makes it the thinnest I've yet owned. Great slicer in the kitchen.
 
Sorry to but in fellas, so can it go thru EKnives back to Russia - or has to go back thru Recon1 no matter where you bought it new?

I was told by Bladezilla that all warranty work in the US and Canada goes through R1 (regardless of the seller) before leaving the continent. Don’t know if that’s true, but he might be in the loop.
 
I need some advice. This morning I awoke and began to torture my fingers on the green Quantum (while deciding if I'm going to keep it with the heavy detent). On one flip, it felt like something "moved" in the knife. I went to the shop to grab the Shiro bits and it turns out that the knife was coming apart. There is no thread locker in the pivot screw and it was turning freely.

Snugging up the pivot and back screw make seems to have fixed it. Now, it feels like my other Shiros and I realize that pivot tension plays a role in detent feel. Had no idea. A couple dozen flips work the pivot loose again.

Since it's obvious that the "previously owner" was playing Dr. with the Quantum, it's time to take apart my first Shiro to clean and reassemble with thread locker. My question is, how do you fellas lube a Shiro? Do you run 'em dry? Light oil? Grease? What type of thread locker do you use?

What sort of lubricant (in the action/bearings), or lack thereof, will best reproduce the way they ship from Russia?
