The Bears' Den--Shirogorov Showcase

What the heck does HatiOn or NeOn even mean? Someone please edumacate me!
Shiro explained the name HatiOn as a portmanteau of the Hati for its "hybrid scales" and On from Neon due to its size. I assume that the name Neon comes from the small fish of the same name as it is the smallest Shiro.

I had a similar problem a few years ago sharpening my Small Insingo Sebenza where there would be a noticeable flat spot at the tip of the secondary bevel after sharpening it with my Sharpmaker. A Wicked Edge cured that problem before I began buying Shiros.

Thank you for the explanation which now makes sense to me. I hate throwing words around which I have no idea as to their meanings! I guess that at some point a newer 2018 W.E system will be in order for me but what had stopped me in the past was the learning curve. Too time consuming!

My F95NL also came with a little "funkyness" on the tip of the blade...wierd.

Yeah, what's up with that?! I have seen some Shiros in photos that the tip looked funky to me, but I had thought that it was just my eyes or something catching the tip on a 2 dimensional photo presentation. Hopefully, Josh can work his magic for my 95T :)

Josh is excellent. Im sure he will fix you up perfect. He has done work for me, and actually, i have a couple knives there for work now. :)
I didnt worry about the tip on mine because its a daily user...it'll get sharpened out eventually.

Curious...@casinostocks, what blade steel is yours? Mine is Elmax.

Casinostocks Casinostocks oops, sorry.
I have a black CF HatiOn on the way to! Different color CF but im excited!

Just to be clear, I don't expect any of the tip shenanigans with my HatiOn as that issue was related to the 95T's tip.

Is you HatiOn with Vanax 37 too? I just luv that steel hence as to why I'm not bummed about not being able to pry away a NeOn from my buddy's collection.

I managed to grab a red CF HatiOn in M390. As I’m in Australia I had to get it sent to a U.S friend and he sent it on to me. Unfortunately it’s currently being held in Australian Customs.
I considered Vanax 37 steel but I couldn’t find much info on it. Plus I love M390 anyway.

I don't know what the rationale behind the second capital letter in NeOn is, but the milling on the scales being reminiscent of curvy neon lights is the source of the name.

The Hati part of HatiOn refers to the Shirogorov Hati knife-- like the F95, but only Ha(lf) Ti(tanium). If it's half Hati and half NeOn, it seems like there should be some quarters in the there.

The $600 retail price on that one including domestic shipping was quite sweet, but buying directly from Recon1 does cost me about an additional 9% in CA sales tax.

We're up at our Vermont place for several days working on our winter wood supply. There's a bit of orange in some of the maples but way more than a hint of it in my pocket today.

It’s great when they include free shipping. I made sure beforehand that the state I got the knife sent to (Massachusetts) had no sales tax.

Apologies in advance if asking something trivial which I already ought to know, but for some reason when it comes to research-foo on Shiros, I seem to suck at it!

What are the differences between models such as Hati and HatiOn lite, also NeOn and NeOn lite / ultra lite? Was there ever a HatiOn that wasn't designated lite? If I had to make an educated guess, I would obviously say weight and perhaps BL / OAL, but are there other differences beyond the obvious, such as different designations distinguishing differences so far as serial, custom devision and fully customs are concerned?

The HatiOn and the Neon are both from the Custom Division (though not considered full customs) are feature contoured handle scales, pivot collars, etc. The Lite and Ultra Lite designations of each are serial versions without the aforementioned features in addition to others diffused from the CD version. Another difference is the price and availability.
