The edc one knife challenge thread

Well I'm gonna have to disqualify myself. Yesterday I woke up quite hungover and completely disregarding the contest I put another knife in my pocket. Now I could have just pretended it didn't happen, but it felt too good having my Levi Smith back in pocket! The problem is that the city I'm in isn't friendly enough to allow me to open carry the marbles, and concealing it isn't as easy as I thought it'd be.
That being said, I am gonna follow this thread, Good luck to all of you, be steadfast in your mission:p also, Kwon Kang I know you were interested so I'll do a review of the woodcraft this week so you can at least see how it performs:)

It's too bad you won't be continuing with the challenge. Thanks for your consideration regarding the Marbles, I definitely look forward to that.

After a few days I have a few more pics. Trying to mix up the pics, so its just not a bunch of the same stuff. I also opened some mail (hard use) and cut a few more food items. The knife is holding up well. A faint patina forming, and I gave it a few passes on the medium Sharpmaker rods to keep it going. Had a roll spot in the middle of the blade that was bothering me; its gone now :). On another note, this knife needs a custom sheath and some new handles. But that has nothing to do with performance.

Actually tried wire cutting for the first time. I NEVER do this with my other knives, but surprisingly to me, no edge damage, and it worked quite easily. Color me impressed.

Also the 5" blade does a great job cutting large food items, like this chicken sandwich.

tactical toast.....im taking this one knife thing very serious:-)

Busy weekend and I got alot done on my project list. Used the POS a TON this weekend but forgot to take many pics. I got a knife done for my uncle along with the sheath, used the POS to help with the leather work. Got a shotgun shell carrier done for my Pardner single shot again in leather and then got the guard, spacers and handle attached and roughed out shape wise on my first Bowie attempt. I FINALLY got a chance at some food prep but literally the only thing I needed the knife for was to open the hotdogs. Oh well. Here are a couple pics along the way.

Making sheath #2 for the POS. I used a drawings posted earlier in this thread by 12thMan as inspiration and thought ide give it a shot. I attempted a sheath very similar to this for my cousin at Christmas but it didnt turn out that great, thought Ide try a more curved bottom out on this one.

Dont look too close, I attempted to try out my new basket weave punch and got it wrong from the very beginning. Rather than stop I just kept the wrong pattern going till I was done. Its for the POS so who cares right!

Actually turned out great, sits in the pocket nice and allows me to grab the knife quick and easy when needed.

BUUUUUUT theres a problem and I figured Ide toss it on here for 12thMan to see and consider. Putting your hand in your pocket becomes a pain in the butt. With this revelation I decided to just cut the clip out and let it ride in my pocket without it until I can figure something better out.

Never been any good at sharpening with a stone really. Picked up a diamond sharpener with a gift card and thought Ide give it a shot.

Still suck at it so out came the Lansky for a quick touchup followed by some stropping.

Much better

Gonna think about taking another shot at getting this thing in my pocket with a clip, otherwise itll just ride the rest of the month out deeper in my pocket like it has been.

While eatin ham & eggs for breakfast, the ham steak was just too tough for the fork by itself. So it's the Barky to the rescue.

Well crap...this just came in today.

Ive always carried junk, no big deal, el cheapo folders in the past and after carrying this little POS fixed blade for a bit now (before the EDC challenge) I kinda came to the conclusion that I like a folder for ease of access and ability to stow away quick and easy...plus its what Im most used to. Did some reading around and saw that people dig the Kershaw Cryo so I got in on a good online deal on the G10 model. Guess Ill be waiting a while before I actually get to use it tho I wont lie...ive been playing with it for the last little bit (first assisted knife). No cutting tho...cross my heart LOL

This was a delicious sandwich.

This was not delicious per se, but it was fun. A little too much fun. I got carried away.

The Companion is a great knife for pencil sharpening, although the secondary bevel as it comes from EK&T is just a little thick for this. Still gets the job done well. Very comfortable handle with no hot spots, and the jimping is perfect for hard cutting. I plan to cut more wood before this challenge is over.

Yesterday evening I used my little Kershaw Emerson to open a package containing:

The struggle is real...

Man, you guys use your knives MUCH more than I do daily.

Matt, if you like the quick access/stowage of a folder, and if they are legal, pick up a cheap OTF to carry for a month. The lightning is a bad facsimile of a Microtech Scarab, but it gets you into the game on the cheap. I have found no better one-hand use knife design.

That would have been a good one to try for this challenge for sure! Tn just recently made them legal to carry if I remember correct so I might have to see what they are all about!

Gonna be thunderstorms in the area for a while in our area. Although I probably won't be gettin out much as a result, I'm still EDC-ing. Most of my action takes place in the kitchen anyway.

Used the Dragonfly salt on some more oranges today; my kid loves them. Still think it's a crappy food prep knife, and since I've got an almost-2-year-old running around everywhere, food (fruit, mostly) is often what I'm cutting.

No pictures, but today I opened up a package containing my new Cold Steel Hold Out I. That knife is of superb quality and design, I highly recommend that you try one if you haven't! I'll say the same about the EK&T Companion, of course, which I intend to reprofile after this challenge.

Going to respectfully and gracefully bow out.

A week in and all I've proven to myself is that I really don't like smaller knives, it wasn't just all in my head... I can carry them, at times, but no way I'm limiting myself to this thing exclusively for 3 more weeks. Maybe I could've gotten away with it had I stuck with the Quickfire, due to the larger handle, but the Kershaw cqc2 is not going to work. Maybe I'll hang onto it and give it to my son when he's a bit older, but still with small hands? Maybe it'll find itself in a GAW in the near future... I highly doubt I'll be carrying it again though, for now back into it's box, and to the bottom of the knife box it goes.

I'm also not a personal fan of the wave... I like the concept, respect the function, it works fine and I "get it", but I personally don't need or like it for me.
