The "Whatever" Thread

Thanks for ID'ing the model, the dealer just called it a "S&W .41 magnum" and the numbers next to the cylinder
latch are a little confusing... serial number and "mod 571" no dash.

No matter, it's still a Smith, got some ammo and now I want to go to my brothers house and try it out!

For some reason i don't seem to be getting my email updates, they must know i'm trying to avoid temptation right now :)

nice gun RussB

My favorite S&W handguns are a set I had many years ago. A Model 27 (.357), Model 25 (.45ACP). Model 57 (.41) and a Model 29 (.44). Back then you could get the deluxe models in wood cases.

went out and played in the snow today -- made a snow cave from one of the piles in my driveway -- if it survives until the weekend, I may try sleeping in it.

the dark bits are the 15" skilled and e-tool used to dig it out

Nice cave vik! I know you northern guys are getting sick of all the snow by now but
I kind of wish we'd get some down here, it's fun if you don't need to drive too far, and
if it doesn't stick around for months on end.

Man John, you had quite the collection there!

I took the .41 to my brothers place and popped off a few, shoots like a champ!
I think he wants one now...

That's cool, Erik. I may have to the fourwheeler out to one of the pastures and try the same thing. The current pile of snow is right by the road. Heck I may be able to find a drift big enough to dig into on the side of a hill.

On the topic of guns, I went to the LGS the other day and they had one of the new single stack Glock 42's. It was pretty tiny, but still very comfortable. It was a little strange to handle a skinny Glock, but it was pretty neat. If they ever come out in 9mm, I will probably get one.

I don't own a S&W15 but have this old Colt Official Police that shoots good to be nearly 50 years old.

Nice! Thanks for the picture.

Seems too quite around here today...

I bought the Model 57, haven't shot it yet but the trigger feels buttery smooth.
I'm almost certain it's had a trigger job somewhere down the line.

Cool guns - I love wheel guns.

I saw this on the way home, and thought of you John...

Yes, but did you notice the tail lights?

And I will never buy a S&W revolver...ever!!

Why won't you buy a S&W if you don't mind me asking? I'm curious.

About the only first hand experience I've ever had with Ruger revolvers is my dad's Bearcat .22, (great gun)
He's had it since he was fourteen years old.[/QUOTE]

Because of the lock? I know some of the NRA faithful were not happy after that particular capitulation.

I respect that, but I am still an S&W fan; they make a GREAT product and I want one of the M&P 8shot .357 revolvers someday....heck, I want one of everything and that's my problem.

I picked up a Colt Mustang XSP .380 today (after my Illinois 72 hour wait period).

It is a fantastic pocket gun - the best I have ever handled, no kidding!

I was able to do two groups into a 6" circle at 10 yards right out of the box in sub freezing weather today after I finished qualifying a group of students.

The gun is a beautiful little 1911, with changes including an aluminum trigger that pivots on a pin as opposed to the normal 1911 slide and rail trigger, and the new XSP has a polymer handle that is both comfortable and adds a light rail and nice texturing for grip.

Yeap - it's "Colt Spendy", but you can see the quality from the mirror polished feed ramp in the breech lock barrel to the tight fit of the forged DLC coated slide.

John - I talked to Mark today - he said he is DEFINITELY getting that knife, but he is saving up for it so he can order it from you - he loves your stuff!

I bet he comes to a gathering with me....

Sorry for the late reply guys, but Yup,you nailed it Andy.

That & they had a reputation of shooting lose when I first started to get into guns & hunting,so I went with the rugged reputation & lower cost of Ruger hand guns.

I realize S&W is owned by someone else & are probably better made now days, but I just can't get over my prejudices & cheapassedness.

I just recently started taking a real interest in revolvers so I really appreciate your first hand experience and
opinions about them mykel m.

I've been told before that the Rugers are tough as nails.

Welllll, I am in the minority in my opinions about S&Ws I realize.

As to Rugers, they also had a rep as roughly finished, but they have stepped it up in the F&F department & my GP100 was as smooth as the Dan Wesson 44,Colt Detective.38 & Anaconda I had years ago.
I still believe Ruger is the best bang for the buck out there.

I love Rugers as well - I had a GP100 - great gun!

I also have a little .22lr Bearcat SA, and had a New Vaquero - all great guns!

You won't be disappointed with a Ruger.

Colts also are great wheel guns.

Taurus is better with revolvers than they are with auto-loaders (my own opinion).

Two of my brothers have Taurus revolvers, they are nice.

Not as nice as my Smiths (I have to say) but they costed less and are still very good guns.
Truth be told, I was inspired by them when I bought my first Revolver... The model 15.

One is interested in a magnum after shooting my .41 he is looking for a good priced
Smith but a Ruger might suit him better, I'll suggest it to him.
