The "Whatever" Thread

That's great news, Mykel! Hope things continue to look up for you.

Thanks guys!
It was good to get back to work today, but dang...I smashed my finger,(middle, right hand) and the nail is all blue & trobbing now.(and it's my keyboard pecker)
Oh well, SH when you've been out of the loop for awhile.

Weather wise it was sunny & 54 today, but the rain is coming back friday with highs in the 40s.

Stay warm ya'll.

They are talking a blizzard this weekend, possible 18" between Friday and Monday. Hope they are wrong.

Good luck Andy, hope to visit it one day.

congrats Myke!

sounds like a sweet gun Cooper, hope the spring issue fixes.

Getting trashed pretty good on the forum I left.

Now this next part is just my opinion, but as far as Off the Map, they are Ok, but Ive owned better, and as far as JK, Id stay away. After owning quite a few custom knives, I think his are way overpriced for what you get, and the fit and finish doesn't touch what can be had in the same range.. As I said this is my opinion, so fanboys stand down.
There are sooo many custom makers, but to me, if they are doing well here, then I think they are GTG. Too many makers don't use their knives for real woods tasks, and they are bought by dudes who look at em and put em in a drawer and hit the keyboard to sing the praise of their GOTO knife with no real time using it. Sometimes no time using it. By maker and owner.

What's wrong with beer, BBQ and blade fondling? The Gatherings were never intended to be survival outings. :)

Not a darn thing, I`ve never claimed to be "Woody Woodsman". I`ll bet we have more fun!

That would be the forum that banned me for challenging the status quot in a good natured way. However, at the gathering, I think we should all get naked (other than loin cloths), rub ourselves with mud, go out in the snow, hold our JK knives in our teeth while we baton wood with hand chipped, chert axe heads and the leg bones of camels and then post a pic, making sure that the BBQ grill or the Bic Lighters are not in the background. I'll start looking for the camels today, someone needs to bring some chert. Who can make loin clothes?
PS I would like my loincloth in a nice soft cotton flannel please. NO BURLAP!
PS #2 I hope I don't get banned now from Blade Forums

A FANBOY

Only get banned if we take pictures! I`ve got a nice old itchy army blanket in the shop, we`ll make yours out of it.

You don't have to be a hardcore woodsman to appreciate a well designed cutting tool.

Jeff

seems people always say they hate what you love but your not allowed to get mad to disagree because it's "their opinion" which is weird enough, and say you don't know anything if you don't like what they do, that they always do it after you decide not to do something for them/hang out with them/etc etc is just suspicious, or funny, or something anyway.

ho hum

I finally figured out who this guy is.

I sent him a PM with my opinion of his opinions...

Let's see, sitting around a bbq...having fire starting contests, carving contests, shooting skills contests, learning how to fish, tie knots, throw knives and hawks, comparing a multitude of custom and production blades, building survival kits, checking out flashlights, packs and gear, sleeping under the stars, going on hikes, practicing first aid (for real whenever Steve comes :) ), carving triggers for traps, etc, etc, etc...yeah, none of that could ever be valuable experience in "the woods" because we did drink a few beers while we were doing it.

I didn't realize it but he knows so much about JK Knives and us because there is a JK named after him...

That opinion is a little off base... anything that costs more than a Mora (for real woods work, what ever that means) is vastly overpriced and an affectation in the real world, I don't care who made it. I don't mind a little pretentiousness but after a certain point it just gets a little old.

I must have missed something. I have used John's knives in the woods a lot. I mean a lot. tons of testing and they are great blades for the money!

I have tons of knives from all different makers and Johns rank right up there with the best of them. Only complaint I ever have is I sometimes want a stainless blade and John hasn't branched out there just yet.

Ok.....

Open mouth, insert foot....

I received a very long and detailed reply to my PM and, after reading it, feel a bit silly for my post. The comments about the gathering was not at all directed at our gatherings and, frankly, he also has some reasons and experience that influenced his comments. While I don't agree and have a differing opinion, this is a case of maybe a bit of overly strong wording combined with taking something out of context.

I also invited the poster to our gathering as well as offering to send him one of my JKs for testing...I think his experiences with JKs were from when John first started out and I believe his current work is more evolved.
