The "Whatever" Thread

Hey Todd

Take a look at the 870 Youth Model too. I bought a 20 ga for my son's 12th birthday. It has a shortened stock and spacers that allow it to grow all the way out to full size. It's a nice setup depending on how old your boy is.

he's 16 and has longish arms. it looked like it was a pretty good fit. thanks for the tip though. the 870 was a contender, but they didn't have a 20 ga...just the mossberg 500.

it's funny. i haven't been in that gun shop since last fall. the floor guns are all AR's now, for the most part. they have taken the place of all the hunting rifles and shotguns, which have been moved upstairs.

Had this Thanksgiving buffet wander through our yard today. 10 chicks!

Danged if one of the adults didn't fly up into a tree. Never seen that before. Then the rest of them, chicks and all, flew away into the trees.

cool pics glenn. ironically enough, we had a family reunion in southern vt today and i also saw a hen and a handful of chicks.

That's cool glennbad. I have a picture of a hen and several poults on my trail cam.

Last winter, I heard and saw a whole flock of them go up to roost while I was in a hunting blind. Sounded like a bunch of helicopters. It is pretty cool to watch them waddle around up in the trees trying to get comfortable.

ok, well...i am pleased that the color was just about what i was going for. but, the epoxy setting early did play with the layers a bit. but everything is solid and completely usable.

anyone got a guess at what we're looking at?

it does look like sanding belts like JDs1 said, my first thought was "thin leather?" though :p

Do you drill the holes before cutting out the rough shape by the way?

Handle for the Panfish?
ha! winner! lol. :D

i drill the holes after i cut it out. i rough cut it out; add some contact cement to scales and handle (one side at a time) and drill. this gives me more confidence to get straight holes.

i'm not a huge fan of "guess what?" type games. so, i'll stop. ;)

i thought paper micarta would give the panfish a classy look. i was going to go with black. but, then i decided on using brown construction paper.

i made the mistake of not telling John what pin size holes i wanted  :p ... so i had to spend about an hour sanding the pins down to the hole size....looks like 1/8".

i just finished gluing and clamping everything together. i actually think i am going to end up liking this one very much.

hope i don't screw it up tomorrow!! :D

now, i'm off to head up to my buddy's camp way up in the Champlain Islands (Isle La Motte). about an hour+ away. but, they are right on the water, and they do a fireworks show every year for the 4th. they spend a couple grand on fireworks, so it is a legit show.

fishing, drinking, fireworksing, drinking, then retire to my tent for the night. good times.

catch y'all tomorrow.

Holy crap, what the heck am I doing up this early?

This is going to take some getting used to, but at least I get off at 3:00.

Hiho,hiho.....

All I gotta say so far is working for a large company sucks!

Oh, too bad to hear that. I hope you can find a good place for yourself amidst the corporate noise.
Me? I work alone . Thank you very much.

I agree. When my old company was family owned, it was a great place to work. Then, after 31 years there, it was sold to a huge corporation (third largest seal manufacturer in the world), it went to hell. Even worse, 6 years later it went to China. Being the nice people they were, they offered me a job....in China! Since I turned it down, no unemployment for me, it was considered quitting.

I have to say it takes a lot of getting used to. I had 15 years in at a plant that employed less than 80 people. I now work at a plant that is the size of a small town. I could walk from one end of the old plant to the other in less time than I can now drive from the shop I work out of to the motor pool. It's still nice to get a paycheck:D

Always remember, a bad job is better than no job. I`m sure it will get better after you get used to it.

I work for a large corporation.

It has been very good to me, but sometimes I find myself in an endless Dilbert cartoon loop.

Pays good though, and making a living is why most of us work.

best
