Traditional of the month: Stockman

Couldn't say about the dates, but that Craftsman sure has nice looking scales

Thank you. I like them too. Interesting the difference between the two sides.

Hi Doug!

I followed your knive during that thread. You have really some great knives there. I really like your pics about them. Thank you for sharing these off!

Kind regards
Andi

Thank you Andi. I'll say the same to you, because you know how much I love seeing pictures of your Tidioute jacks!

Thank you, Doug!

The Tidioute Jacks are outstanding knives. They are my favorite EDC. It seems, these guys can´t get enough of follow me, and haunt me. :)

Kind regards
Andi

Planning to get a case stockman down the road in either that nice yeller color OP has or Dark Red bone to match my new Peanut. Of course, whatever the decision, it'll be in CV!

Tried to carve a peach pit into a basket, inspired by Stich pictures, but made some mistakes, and the pit peach natural crack was way too big on one side, making the basket look weird, then i've made the handles way too thin, and by the time i was finished, the small carving split in two..
Oh well, at least i've seen again how strong that thin blade is, and hopefully i'll be doing better next time.

done a second one. it doesn't look very nice either, but it's a better start than before :D

Nice job, most of mine I did with my peanut last month :-) ( Trad of month)
And I mostly used the pen, but used the sheepsfoot to draw some lines . Doing the peach pit carvings really showed me how good Cases CV really is, a thin blade on a hard material and I finish them, by holding the blade at a 90 degree angle to the material and scrape to smooth. The first one I did I figured the blade would be a butter knife, but I was wrong it was still razor sharp to my surprise. Cases CV is really good stuff I've been very impressed with it. Also two things Jacktrades, when done I finish with mineral oil they really shine, and I've said it before but I'll say it again, that almond smelling seed inside contains cyanide so be carful and wash knife before food, and carful around small children.
Nice work
-Pete

Just ordered 2 medium Case; 1 yellow, 1 amber bone, both in CV. Today's EDC is a Moore maker XL in jigged yellow/1095. Stockman is my preferred trad pattern.

Thanks for the good tips Pete, I found out i like the peach pits for carving because i can easily have one in my pocket all the time :D
Nevertheless, I still have to find some better ones though, maybe a bit bigger, or a different kind, because the ones i have so far have a long split on a side, and i have to integrate that in the carving somehow. Still have to read a bit into this, maybe some carvings are just half pits, or entirely different from what i had, because i've seen some that seem impossible to do with that big hole on the side.
Anyway, i'm very impressed too with Case's CV, and if i ever had doubts, the're all gone. An almost razor thin blade, still sharp after all that scraping and carving through a very hard material, with no deformations, no chipping, ..well, simply great steel, love it.

After I did the baskets, I tend to look at the pit a few different ways and let the pit dictate what would suits its shape.
What I like about them is the portability, and each has a different color and texture , some light, some dark, thin veins, thick veins, lots of veins, and not so many, some round, some more oval.
My latest is Clovis, the slack jawed yokes cousin :-) he had one tooth but it snapped off :-(

Four pits on deck, two small and round, two large and oval.

Hi Pete!

I like the faces so much, which you are whittling in theese seeds. Especially laughing ones ... I gonna get some peaches and try it myself :D

Kind regards
Andi

Nice, very nice :D
My yeller stockman has been used this month for a lot, including some quick kitchen duty, and the usual package openings, strings, price tags, and of course, a few more peach pits.
The patina is looking better, except the spey blade, with only a few dark spots.

Yeah, I know, not very fish like, maybe a weird airplane ? :D:D:D

Thanks guys, jacktrades looking good.
I went fishing today and caught a dozen fish mostly yellow perch, and chain pickerel, then what was about to be my best day of fishing this year turned into the worst, I hooked a big ol' largemouth bass, it hit like a freight train we fought for awhile, jumped out of the water a few times, I couldn't beleave my eyes, as the fish tired, I got it to shore, I had no net, bent over to grab the lower jaw and the fish had a burst of energy, jumped up snapped my line and I watched it swim away with my favorite rooster tail :-( . It was easily 8 pounds maybe more, which is huge where I live, 5 pounders seem big around here. Saltwaters another story big strippers, cod, a guy I used to work with fishes for tuna. Anyway if that was not a kick in the b**ls check out my next perch.

Sorry to hear that Stich, but I know what you mean. There's some lunkers in the lake we fish, wacky style with Senko rigs and over Memorial Day and Father's Day weekends all I coulda caught was a cold... well, only pickerel for me and I don't like eating them.
On the other hand, my wife and two sons did alright, some really nice crappie, and a couple of largemouth that were just at the PA limit (12").

Both my son and I had hard strikes from bigger largemouth but in both cases they jumped out of the water, looked us in the eye and spit out the hooks. :(

My Buck 303 in cherry handles was waiting in my front pocket but didn't get used for fish cleaning duties...yet! There's still the rest of the summer :D

Six days to go for the yeller stockman in my pocket and it has done everything i needed for a pocket knife. Being bigger than the peanut, i had some 'comfort problems' with that at first, but i managed to keep it with me, and got used to it.
When i first got into traditionals, this one and two peanuts made it my way, and the yellow medium stockman was the first i've put in a pocket, right there when i opened the package. Loved it. But i moved to the peanut the following months, than bought other traditionals, oh well, and the medium stockman got forgotten in a box.
Till this month that is, and i once again found out what a great pattern the stockman can be.
