Traditional of the month: Stockman

My peanut is not happy with me, it was still in my pocket as always, but the Schrade 808 came out and took over the peanuts fishing duties today.

And the Case 6318 made dinner.

Used my Moore Maker 5 blade, and the little Schrade today.
Went fishing again, yesterday caught 6 crappies in 15 minutes, today the smallest bass in the lake, only the 1 fish in 45 minute:-(

P.S. jacktrades, I like your 60th Annuversary Zippo

Well you guys have forced my hand. I just purchased a Case Medium Stockman CV in Dark Red Bone, and it should be here before the weekend!

I can't wait to see it, if only vicariously through the pictures you post. Good choice!

I know it's OT but I love that bag Stich. And nice knife and a nice fish!

Thanks bemo, I've had that bag for about 24 years, it's been cross country with me, up and down the east coast, Canada, and Europe. It has seen better days and the shoulder strap had ripped off both sides one side I patched the other is just tied off. It's my fishing bag now and I told my wife this winter I am going to take the time and fix it up.
Sorry, back to topic, today Boker 7474 stockman yellow bone, scales don't match, I bought cuz I liked the pile side the darker yellow section next to blades were originally white, but turned dark yellow through use. It's really smooth from years of service, also my little Schrade stockman.

I'm surprised this knife is not more popular on this forum. I see much praise for Case's other medium stockmen, but the red bone cv is smaller but still a very useful size. Please post pictures when you get it.

First I want to thank Doug, for inspiring me to seek out a small stockman, I really have enjoyed using it. Started out my day carving a peach pit into a toothless slack-jawed yokel, then went fishing for a hour, caught 4 crappies, 1 perch, and a bluegill.

Having a great time so far this month with my Case medium stockman. It's getting some character from cutting up apples, peaches, strawberries and sausages. I'll be putting a good sharp edge on the clip and sheepsfoot blades today (the spey never gets used, and as such is razor sharp).

Here's a pic from earlier this month:

I also think, that my stockman / stockmen can´t complain about getting used less than anything...

Today´s setup (the yellow handles feel great - there are some scratches in it and when looking at it on another antle of the light - nice perspective ;) )

Today's mail brought a new option for TOTM carry, this Case 6344 HE (thanks jdracing). This is my first venture into vintage Case, so help me out here. What date does the 2 dot tang stamp represent?

Here it is alongside the Craftsman small stockman.

Tried to carve a peach pit into a basket, inspired by Stich pictures, but made some mistakes, and the pit peach natural crack was way too big on one side, making the basket look weird, then i've made the handles way too thin, and by the time i was finished, the small carving split in two..
Oh well, at least i've seen again how strong that thin blade is, and hopefully i'll be doing better next time.

done a second one. it doesn't look very nice either, but it's a better start than before :D

Doug, you are the proud owner of a 1978 beauty! That's if it only has two dots, but it looks to me there may be some not as visible because from the picture the dots are off center. It looks more like a 5 dot. I could be wrong but that is what it looks like.

Here is two references for your case collection that is about to go wild.

Thank you for those replies to my question. I went back and looked again, this time under lighted magnification, and there are just the two dots. So, 1978 it is.

My son and I were just listening to a song last night from a 1978 album (Trees from Hemispheres by Rush), so it is interesting that a 1978 knife came to me today.

Thanks to the Lansky kit my Case stockman has hair-popping sharp blades, hooray!

All the apples in the fruit bowl are now quaking with fear :D

Here is the latest acquisition Case 6344 HE along with it's two other pattern neighbors, the Craftsman 9473 small stockman and the Böker USA Tree Brand 8113 stockman.

Now that I know the Case is from 1978, any ideas on the dates of the other two?
