Wow this is sad. Bumping it back up to see if it has been resolved. I can't imagine why anyone would toss a big blade like that in an envelope. It is an accident waiting to happen. An accident that happens to be the responsibility of the seller in my opinion.

The seller was on line at 3:14 am yesterday. Has anyone directed him to this thread? Sorry about your bad transaction. Things like this make the whole community look bad. *shakes head*

First of all I want to say that I am very sorry that the knife was lost. Unfortunately the loss of the knife is not my fault. I do not feel that I was irresponsible in packing and shipping the BOSS Street in a Flat Rate Envelope. This packaging is rated up to 4 lbs. if shipped internationally, and higher domestically. What does a BOSS Street weigh, 10 oz.? Being generous, a total of a pound at most with the packing material. I have shipped MANY knives in the same packaging and have not had a knife lost, or the packaging severely damaged in transit. I take care in my packing, and make sure the knife won’t move around when shipped. It’s not like I tried to cram a bare-bladed Battle Mistress in the envelope and send it on its way. The blade was secured in cardboard, wrapped in layers of packing paper, and taped shut with packing peanuts surrounding it.
In my sales thread I offered Priority Mail shipping ONLY, and nothing more. Any extra coverage or security was not advertised. And at the point of sale, extra coverage or security was not requested, and therefore, not applied when shipped. I have offered to refund half of the purchase price, and meet you halfway. The knife no longer exists, so the only thing left is the money. It is unreasonable to expect me to refund you the full purchase price, or to send you an entirely new knife. There will always be a level of risk when shipping, and receiving, an item. I’m not trying to rip you off here…..
On the other side of the coin, Ivan51, how do I know that you aren’t the one trying to rip me off? You make a public spectacle of this, and expect to peer pressure me into giving you your money back (or get another knife)? In your first contact to me, when the package arrived, you claim that there was a “little hole” in the envelope, and no knife.....

"hey i just got home and got your package and there is a little hole on the side but no busse! my wife got it when it was delivered by the mail and called me saying there felt like there was no knife in it. man did you insure it?"

.....Then you send me this picture:

......I don’t see a “little hole,” I see the entire side of the envelope cut open. Whats up with that? Who’s to say you didn’t cut the package, take the knife, and are now claiming that there was nothing in the envelope but packing peanuts? I’m not out to make you look like the bad guy, just like you’re not out to make me look like the bad guy. You are being unreasonable. It is what it is. I hereby withdraw my offer to refund half of the purchase price, and I will no longer discuss this issue……

Anybody who buys from you in the future is making a serious mistake. You just destroyed your own case.

Had you immediately refunded half his money, this thread would have been a discussion about any remaining liability. Now it is about your using your wounded ego to avoid paying the least of what you know you owe.

I am not impressed.

Looking at one of these envelopes it does say that there is a 4 pound weight limit on international... But these are mainly document mailers, and not designed for much else like they are for documents, magazines, catalogs and other material that bends and flexes with the envelope as it makes its way through the high speed sorting machines to the trucks/planes, back through other high speed sorting machines, more trucks, local PO's and then finally to the delivery truck. If this is the first knife you've mailed in one of these flimsy envelopes that didn't make it, then I'd say that you are lucky...but that luck was bound to run out and it did. Personally, I think it's darn foolish to mail knives in anything but an actual cardboard box and that's after I wrap them up, tape them up, and then tape up the box...

Had you mailed this in a suitable Priority box, my opinion would be with you rather than against...but seeing the envelope with no tape supporting any side and with the tear on the side and the knife long gone, my opinion is that you cared only enough to do the absolute bare minimum when it came to shipping this knife.

Since you feel that this loss is not your fault and that you do not feel that you were irresponsible in the method chosen to ship this knife, I can honestly say that I will most definitely avoid doing any deal with you based on what I've seen and read here.

verpus just made it on my "do not deal with" list. Probably won't change much for me because I am not into Busses. Guys like him are a disgrace to this forum.

If a drunk driver hits someone they don't get to come back and question whether the victim walked out in front of them as they drove on the curb. You Sir are in the wrong on this one. You packaged the item poorly and have lost any ground to point fingers at someone else.

You say you are not trying to make him the bad guy and in the same breath accuse him of an elaborate plan to scam you out of a knife and money. No one wants to pony up a few hundred bucks but you put "yourself" in this position.

What's the price of ones reputation?

Guess we have a monetary amount now.

Unfortunately the loss of the knife is not my fault.

Yes, it was. You improperly packaged it in an envelope instead of a box.

I do not feel that I was irresponsible in packing and shipping the BOSS Street in a Flat Rate Envelope.

And you would be wrong.......

I have shipped MANY knives in the same packaging and have not had a knife lost

You've been lucky, so what. It finally caught up with you. Future buyers should take note that you do not properly package what you sell and consider that risk before buying from you.

or the packaging severely damaged in transit.

So you've had packaging damaged before, just not "severely" in your opinion? Was that a clue?

In my sales thread I offered Priority Mail shipping ONLY, and nothing more. Any extra coverage or security was not advertised. And at the point of sale, extra coverage or security was not requested, and therefore, not applied when shipped.

As the seller/shipper, it is YOUR responsibility to take all efforts to make sure the item arrives safely and securely. YOU chose to ship without insuring, so it is YOU that is responsible for doing so.

It is unreasonable to expect me to refund you the full purchase price, or to send you an entirely new knife.

No it isn't.

ALL future prospective buyers should take note of this when thinking of buying from verpus77.

The buyer's responsibility:To get the money to the seller

The seller's responsibility:To get the item to the buyer

verpus77,you failed on your end.You owe Ivan a complete refund,& for God's sake stop mailing knives in envelopes!

If the bottom-line is basically, "Screw ALL of you here on BladeForums!", and the refusal to make this deal right in even the very slightest way then, IMHO, a swift banishment is in order.....no need for arrogant, rip-off, scumbags hanging around. :thumbdn:

Wow! This is pretty sad. Not that long ago I did a giveaway involving a Busse Game Warden. I shipped it in a ... BOX ... and I insured it for $200 I think. I also spent about 10 or 15 minutes packaging the knife in a secure manner. The knife had intrinsic value and the Postal Service sucks sometimes. No offense to current or former USPS employees. It is the system that sometimes causes problems. I had hoped to log on today and find that the OP had received what he deserves. A 100% refund. Verpus, get your head out of your bung hole. If not you might as well just go away. I doubt that anyone here will be willing to buy from you or sell to you anymore. As has been said, you have no honor. :thumbdn: :thumbdn: I will be very very careful who I buy from or sell to in the future.

I shipped a $550.00 knife last Monday and insured it for $550.00..
In a box of course with alot of tape. It cost $7.70 for the insurance and I figure $7.70 is a small fee to pay to keep it all on the upside. You really gotta dig deep here Derpus and do your best to fix this.
