Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

hearthpad.jpg

Hearthpad constructed, waiting for the mortar to set, then I've gota grout it. Once it's all dried, I'll paint the molding black (it's already primed) and see if i can fix the screwup with the joints at the front where i mis cut the angle.

I also managed to pick up 2 tons of wood pellets today, so i've got my heating fuel for the winter. My truck probably wasnt too happy at my putting 2000 lbs in the back when it's only rated for 1800, but it made the trip fine, twice.

Finally got the new exhaust on the vette roughed in. Tomorrow I gotta get it all bolted and welded up tight. Also gotta cut out some folders and a filet blade.

Hearthpad looks good wood burning stove I'm assuming or maybe pellet?!

I just got 2 high def TV's. SamSung 52" 1080p 120 hertz 50,000:1 contrast ratio. Damn, what a picture! I can't wait to try out a Blue Ray disc now.

Pellet stove, as much as I'd enjoy a nice woodstove, they're not practical to use as your primary heating source when you're not home much of the time, but a pellet stove can be effectively used that way. I've got a stove sitting in the middle of my living room, type L stove pipe laying around, hearthpad almost finished, 2 tons of pellets on my porch, etc... but need to go get a building permit still so i can punch a hole in the wall and put up the flue.

One thing was for sure, heating oil cost me almost 2500$ last year, and prices have gone up like 80% since then... and I couldn't afford a 4 grand heating season this year, but I'll have the pellet stove in, a winter's worth of pellets etc for less than my oil cost last year, so it'll pay for itself this year, and start saving me lots next year.

On Saturday have Jon, Mike from Falmouth and Nathan coming over.Jon will be finishing a cable damascus knife and Mike and Nathan will be getting canister welding 101.:D

Moving into my new shop, building a new welding forge, building a coal forge, buying parts for a waste oil burner, working 3 shifts on the farm, designing a new tatara, cleaning the garage, and maybe start wiring the shop. Now to see how much of that I can actually get done.

baking. continuously. I don't even run the forge after 10AM right now.

Good for soaking oils into sheaths, though.

Gettin ready for the Montana Show.:)......................and working on the bathroom remodel, dang.:grumpy:

Gah! I'm trying to get someone to RESPOND to my email about the little Roseville gun show coming up. And the one in Reno. I still haven't gotten out to do one yet.

Oh you will have a good time at a gun show. I really miss them. You meet all kinds of people. Be careful some of them are nuts.

I'm hoping I can do the one in Reno. I also am hoping i have enough but not too much stock. I do all this "rustic" type of stuff, and while a lot is geared toward W&S there's a distinct western kind of feel to it.

If i was selling $400 knives then one sale is a break even, but I'm not.

I think I'm going with 8-12 simple patch knives, 2 clip point ranchers, 2-5 leuku pattern bushcrafters, and 3 or 4 other knives of various sorts. But I have no real idea if that's too much or too little. I haven't been to a show since maybe 95, and what I remember then was a couple resellers, and one or two custom shops at any given show. But one of the custom shops would invariably be reworked files on as close to a mass production line as the person could come up with.

Yesterday I didn't do much after work. Today I've been doing quite a bit of hand sanding and next week when I get my blades back from Paul I was going to be nice enough to let everyone come over and hand polish for me. I'll let ya'll thank me by bringing any good beer. :D

Been a busy weekend. Yesterday I drove almost 200 miles ,round trip, to pick up 14 ounces of platinum scrap. It ships out tomorrow morning ( platinum is $1650 today, it was 2300 in march, 2200 in may, and has been sliding since). Today I moved two safes to my storage unit. We got a new huge , almost brand new safe from a local jeweler who went belly up. Then I did the mammoth scales on an auto that I am changing the handle on ( customer really wanted mammoth bad). Just showered off the mammoth dust and am getting ready to put a rack of ribs on the grill. Tonight I am going to work on a new design for a forge controller.

VACATION ! Flying out to Denver on thursday, going to the 45th annual rocky mountain highland games while I'm there (figuring out the best way to pack my nice wool kilt without it getting wrinkled right now) and doing some hiking and going to a rockies vs padres game, then i'm going from denver to las vegas for another 7 days ending with the Sony Online Entertainment convention at the Vegas Hilton the weekend of the 16th.

Well it looks like I have to cut the grass after all this rain. Plan on detailing my Quad Cab and change the filter and oil, with Mobile One. Also hope to draw out a canister chainsaw billet to send out to Great Lakes Water Jet.:D

Cleaning up the Knife Shop this week-end, And getting started on a knife order for a customer. Also, started cutting and splitting and stacking the winter wood for winter. The red and white oak has been down for two years, I believe its going to be very cold and dry this winter here in Indiana. :)

This summer has been a challenging one. New roof on the home and shop. Removed 3 trees near the house. And repaired one section of the concrete to the shop. Replaced some landscape timbers down one side of the home. But I managed to do it all. ;)

I am planning on getting some surgery performed later this year. I have a rupture in my stomach near the belly button that has to be tookin care of. I am trying to get as much done before the surgery. I painted all the windows and sealed them as well. So, how's your week-end starting to look like.
