Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Waiting on my oil paint to come in this weekend. I want to start painting. I been wanting to do this for about 20 year now. I am setting up a area in the shop for painting. All orders are up to date with my knives. And I put back some for other orders when some come in. I need a better area for it but it will have to do for now. I will need to clean up all the time. Sunday is alway the lord day here with family. I hope you all have a great weekend and a nice one. :)

Finished up a new forge this morning before going to work.

Sorry, I didn't get the complete burner in the pic. It's a blown burner that I removed from my old vertical forge, I'm thinking this one will get as hot as the last. You can see on the left side that I installed a 1/4" X.25" 304 stainless thermowell it sticks past the Kaowool about 3/4". The entrance and exit are twice the size of my last one, now the openings are 3" X3", instead of 1 1/2" X3". I've got a starting length of my next damascus billet of 17" X1 1/4" X2", this is going to be one long piece of steel.

After work I put a new set of strings on my 1967 Martin D18, of course while the strings were off I polished the body and neck, I also cleaned the fret board with lemon oil, it also helps to prevent the fret board from cracking.

Tomorrow afternoon Linda and I are going to the Irish Cultural Center in Canton, MA. Their is a jam session that I was invited to, so I'll probably be playing quite a few Irish drinking songs:D

Instead of practicing Dire Straits tonight, I'll be practicing "The Night That Paddy Murphy Died" and other Irish drinking songs

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Was going to take the sportster to the medieval society event tomorrow on the other side of Rochester, but my wife isn't up to 2 hours passenger on te NYS Thruway (kathunk-Kathunk-kathunk) so we're taking her car instead (so I'm bringing the flute, fiddle and harp) then we'll take the bike on a wine tour Sunday (ride 20 minutes, she drinks for 20 minutes, ride 3o minutes, repeat)
I don't like wine much so it works

Running to the out of business jewelry supplier to get another load of stuff, then to Portsmouth to look at some equipment another person has for me. Rest of the day is yard work. If I am not too worn out ( 90F today), I think I'll light the forge this evening, and bang out a tanto or something.

Sunday afternoon I have Daniel, a BF newbie, coming over to do a forging session.

Mow the yard, get some forge time, then go to my Korean friends for a real full blown Korean 4th party. We will grill this year. I'm bringing all the meats.

I've been on vacation for the past week and the wife and I have been getting a lot done and spending some much needed quality time together. I've cut down trees and bushes, cleaned up a fallen tree, spent a good bit of time forging damascus, general yard cleanup, and I built us a new fire pit.

I took some 3/4" x 1/8" A36 I had laying around and forged up a couple of holders for a grate. Half of it rests on the stone and the other half gets held up by my little supports. I have plans for a more robust grate, but this is working for now. Made some awesome steak, lobster, lamb, and corn over the fire pit for the 4th and tonight I did Kielbasa, potatoes, and cabbage in a dutch oven in the pit, turned out great. I'm looking forward to lots more outdoor cooking, it's really nice and relaxing.

This is some of the paint that I will be using. Getting all the things that I will be in need is almost a full time job by it self.

And this is the brushes I will be using as well. The brushes go for about $ 180.00.

Since the sun will come out I'll go to our fort and supervise Sam as he gives his blacksmith demos. I'll take photos.

Going to Chris Moss' wedding ( knifemaker87),which will be followed by a ceilidh. Fully kilted, of course.

I will be working on some handle bolsters, and then get some work done on the wood pile as the weather is cool, cold for this time of the year. Do it now, and leave more time for the fall hunts. Its been a cold misserable summer, I can hardly wait for fall.

Today's action. Sam forgot his period costume .As he made nails a visiting CT militia defended the fort !

I finished forging out and ground and heat treated a 1095/nickel twist dagger blade from a billet Bill Vining started and I finished at Indian George's last year, also finished a 14th century design knife based on the characteristics of 4 artifacts in the "Knives and Scabbards'" book from the London Museum. I also cast 34 bronze buttons based on a 13th century belt mount in my collection
