Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

Just got back from cooking for 100 people - The annual church homecoming picnic/dinner. I did 15 pounds of kielbasa,5 pounds of bratwurst, 10 pounds of hot dogs, and 20 pounds of hamburgers. To go with the kielbasa I cooked up 5 pounds of peppers and onions with one of my gourmet recipes. It has Vidalia onions, red, yellow, and orange peppers, shitake mushrooms, fresh dill, and a bunch of other spices....plus cognac.

The end of October, I am doing a pig roast for the church.

As you may be able to tell, I take my Church duties seriously, and especially like the commandment, "Feed my Sheep".

Going out to do some togi, then, after getting cleaned up, its off to Wallace Day Celebration this evening ( yes, another excuse to wear the kilt). Festivities start at 7:04PM, in commemoration of the 704th anniversary of the death of William Wallace.

Sounds good Stacy I can almost smell it.

I just saw a show where some guy in Washington state has designed a work kilt, pretty neat.

ERIN GO BRAGH!;):)

I decided to incorporate all my past paintings into one. And this is what I came up with. I said a good prayer just before I started. I still need to do more practice, but all that comes with time and prayer. I was happy to see it all come together. I think the good lord for all his help in producing this work. I could not had done it with out his guidance. Hope you enjoy peaking at it. Ho! I am calling this one The Mighty One.

I guess that I finished my kiridashi for ashokan today, it sucks.

Tomorrow i'm going to try to get some other knife stuff done. This is the first 'free' weekend i've had in a long time, and probably my last free weekend before ashokan.

Jammin' with the acoustic Lightning Brothers tonight. I've got 3 pattern welded blades that need etching, maybe I'll do one of them for the rest of the afternoon, my Ashodan kiridashi :D so it will be ready for Ashokan.

Sitting around the house sulking because I had to send my VFD back to Rob. I've had big plans of spending this weekend breaking in my new KMG, and now I'm twiddling my thumbs instead. Everytime I look at my grinder I get depressed. It's kinda like buying a brand new Ferrari, it looks great...has a kick @$$ motor......and the first time you turn the key over ready to make your first run.......the computer goes out and leaves it dead in the water.

Hopefully I'll be up and running in a week or so.

At my shop in Ithaca. Just started a billet with 3 layers Aldo's 1084,4 layers Kelly's thin 15N20 and 2 layers Kelly's thin 1084. Should be interesting

Starting the weekend early :D. Just got out of work, Linda and I will be packing up the truck, tent, sleeping bags, beer, etc. We are going to be spending tonight, Friday, Saturday and coming home Sunday. Camping at a Massachusetts State Campground, Lake Dennison, Baldwinville, Ma. The weather is supposed to be great for camping. Also packing my Martin Guitar, hell if ya don't have your guitar,,,then you're not really camping are you ? :jerkit:

Monday we will be at the Newport, RI Irish festival to drink Guinness Draught and listen to some Celtic music. We are especially going there because our friends the Glengarry Bhoys, from Ontario, CA will be headling the musical festivities.

Tuesday, I will be taking another vacation day to relax from my little vacation, probably do some damascus etching and hand sanding :D.

Saturday i hope to get some work done in the shop on a damascus letter opener i've been commissioned for. Sunday i'll be traveling up to NH for a funeral and a birthday, and monday I hope to be at the Newport Irish fest (hey, same place as Larry!)

I have my truck loaded and my 21' jet boat hooked up. Some of my family and I are meeting on the Missouri river above where it runs into 250,000 acre Fort Peck reservoir for some camping, boating and fishing. This is on 1,100,000+ acre Charles Russell wildlife refuge and there is tonnes of game around. There are only about a dozen places you can actually drive to the lake, so a boat is the prime way to access most of it. You can hunt on it and I plan on doing some scouting for next year when I can get all my resident tags and start hunting again. There are Walleys, catfish, burbot, lake trout, land locked chinook salmon, rainbows, sturgeon, bass, northern pike paddle fish and lots of other fish in these waters and some very liberal fishing regs. You can run 6 setlines with 6 hooks apiece as well as rods. Gonna have some funnnnnnnnnnnnn

ib2v4u post up some pics! That sounds pretty like a pretty cool trip!

I stuck around the house and got some sheaths done:

Well since monday-friday is the equivalent of my weekend. I repaired the forge yesterday. The rest of the week I'm finishing 3 or 4 bars of firestorm damascus, paying my propane bill, making a straightening press, and working on a deal for a surface grinder.

Bruce nice knives! Simple but beautiful.

Getting ready to head over to the church. I'm the pastor this week. Our quartet is also doing a great Fannie Crosby piece ( I sing bass),"I am Thine Oh Lord". I wrote an alternate arrangement for the last chorus. Should be lots of fun.

This afternoon, I am finishing the blade work on the sword. All fittings are done. By next weekend it should be ready for Ashokan.

I just got back from 4 days in northern vermont at the New England Blacksmith's fall meet. Some fantastic demos and great people! Now to try to get some stuff ready for ashokan next weekend.

Hand Rubbing out a Barkes Hunter this weekend. Got the yard done and waiting on the big rain to come in as well. Hope you all are doing ok out there. God bless and have a great weekend also. :D

In keeping with the fact that I was supposed to be at Ashokan this weekend....I thought. I forged three hours Saturday and Four hours today. I was giving a forging lesson to my good friend Don, who was going to Ashokan with me. He makes excellent knives and has wanted to learn to forge them. In the two days we forged two bowies, two hawks, a wakizashi, and a pile of practice pieces ( drawing, beveling, and fullering practice). He will be finishing one set and I will finish the other. We will do the HT in a couple weeks. He had a good time. I forgot to take the hammer to the forge for photos, so no pics. Not Ashokan, but a nice weekend.
