Week-end Post, What Are You Doing

IIRC the guys on Family Guy hang out at a bar called the Bearded Clam. Funny stuff, not for kids though!

Woo-hoo, I just checked and the part I need for my grinder has been shipped. I also have some 1084 on the way from Aldo. It will be nice to start working with some good annealed steel for a change! I've just about run out of knives and files to mutilate ;)

It good to see you getting some good steel to work with. As for me this week-end I will be getting the new ZTR on Sat: about 1:00PM. Got family coming over also for Mother's Day. Sold the Harley Monday and setting up the shop for some New Toys. ------------How about you all? What's your week-end starting to look like? --------5-11-07:thumbup:

Goin' fishin'!

Hitting the walleye on Moses Lake tomorrow, back home Sunday afternoon for dinner with the fam...

I'm going to work some more on my popeye arms. I'll have to run out and fill a propane tank though. I can't believe it, but I ran a tank out in a day and a half last week. Granted, it was only a five gallon tank, but I've never done that before. I'm going to keep forging and learning.

Sounds like you guys are having fun. Walleye sounds goooodd....

The part I ordered came in today and is now on my grinder! :) She's up and running. Plus, I now have two open windows with new screens in them, in my shop. It's slowly getting organized and seems to be getting bigger because of it! :foot: The yard is starting to look like a yard finally... steel on the way... life is good. Kinda challenging lately, but good.

I don't sit around here all the time y'know, I have been getting some stuff done ;)

my order from TKS came in today. still waiting on my order from Admiral and also my order of 6 dozen belts. also waiting on an order from budk. i needed a new stick shift knob. got the poured resin skull with red eyes. its going to look wicked. cant wait to get it and get rid of my 8 ball knob.

Tomorrow I'm going to fire up the forge and mangle alot of perfectly good steel and sunday finally start on that rock retainer wall that I was supposed to do last summer-and visit my mom:D

...I also have some 1084 on the way from Aldo.

I just want to say that my steel arrived today. Aldo had emailed me saying that he would ship it last Thursday; he must have if it got here that fast.
A little background... I only ordered one 4' bar of 1/4x 1 1/2... Aldo mentioned it would be a better deal, shipping-wise, if I ordered more than one, but I didn't have the cash at the time.
Well... my bar arrived as promised... with a 3' or so bar of 1/4 x 1" attached to it! He wrote on the package, "extra 1084, I hate shipping one piece at a time, merry Xmas, Aldo"

I am frankly stunned at this level of service and generosity. Mr. Bruno just got himself another repeat customer!!

Thumbs up to you guys too, many of you recommended me to order from him and you were damn sure right.

Thanks very much to this community!!

EDIT: I just got an email from my first "client" here... I modified a production knife and its sheath to his specs, and he says he likes it a lot... that's a huge boost after a few weeks that have been kinda challenging for personal/financial reasons... sorry to ramble or brag, but hey, isn't pleasing the customer what it's all about? I really like the feeling of knowing I provided a good service for someone, it's tremendously encouraging. I wouldn't and couldn't have done it without y'all's support, thanks again to this whole group!

now when you gonna buy the knifemaker membership? congrats on the possitive feedback.

I will call myself a knifemaker when I feel confident enough in my knives to offer them for sale, and have a couple available for sale. At that time, I'll also change my user name to my real name, as you've done, Jacob.

Thanks for the congrats, bud! It feels DAMN good. :)

I wish it would rain here. I need the water on the yard. The New Mower works great. Been working on the new shop setup. Its going great ------

Today the weather is nice and this afternoon I am invited to go out boating with a cooler full of beer as they are forecasting some badly needed rain over the weekend along with cold northeast winds. The forest fire situation is dire here indeed as the sky is full of firefighters flying their water bombers and helicopters back and forth to the raging blazes going on here.

Tonite it is going to be relaxing with the TV and if the weather is wet and cold I hope to work on some orders in the shop over the weekend, and chew the fat over at the neighbor's garage.

Well, I just got back from my first check-up in like 15 years. Doc says the tingling in my hand is likely just an irritated nerve, "stop leaning on your elbow at the 'puter desk!" Still have to have blood drawn next week for standard tests but so far my BP pulse and lungs seem to be good :)

Also I have the first blank profiled out of that 1084... all I'm gonna say about that is, I should have ordered some a long time ago.... :o :foot:

I had a tingling in my hands and the first doctor said the same thing. It didn't go away. I went to a "better" doctor and it turned out to be a bulging disk in my neck from sitting at the desk incorrectly. I ended up going to a physical therapist to get it fixed. If I travel a lot and have to work at a hotel desk for too many days in a row, it comes back. Then I have to do the exercises to release the pressure on the disk.

As far as what I'm going to do this weekend. I bought two 10' sections of 1/2" rebar. I'm going to cut them into 2.5' lengths and weld 52100 rollers onto seven of them. I'm also going to weld up a stack of 1084/15N20 for a damascus billet and weld it onto the remaining rebar handle. I'll probably hold off on making the damascus until I can get to a buddies shop. He has a hydraulic press. It's a whole lot easier than welding, folding, welding, folding, welding, folding by hand. I'll also forge out as many blades as I have time for. I'm thinking of taking some vacation time next week and making it a really long weekend, so that I can beat out quite a few of them.

in about an hour im heading to Luke's house (swede2207). monday im ordering 2 gallons of Parks 50 fast quench oil.

I'll definitely keep that in mind and if it doesn't get better I'll get a second opinion. Knowing how crappy my posture usually is at the desk, I could have the same thing. I wonder if I should consult a chiropracter? I'm hoping to take care of it before I really damage anything.

Anyway! The little woman and I went to her friend's birthday party last night and had a great time. I drank a bunch of really good homemade wine, ate some baked alaska and had some great conversation with the folks there. A good time was had by all :)

Think I'll finish the handle on that nicholson thing I made and start beveling this 1084 piece this afternoon... Got to touch up my machete and tomahawk too, off to my Dad's tomorrow for more brush-clearing.

I wonder if I should consult a chiropracter?

My medical doctor, my physical therapist and my chiropractor all stated that adjustments when a bulging disk is present is "NOT" a good idea and could actually be quite dangerous. My chiropracater won't touch me anymore because of this injury. The only thing my chiropracter is willing to do now is adjust my hips, but neck and back are no longer an option.

Be careful. Get good medical advice from a variety of sources, then make an informed decision about what approach to take.
