What did you rehang today?

That looks like a biter.
It definitely seems to be, my uncle doesn't know what he's missing.
It's a bit sad to think of the once great axes that are rusting away in peoples tool sheds waiting to be rescued.

I've thought of asking about the DB he's got in there, but I suppose he should have at least one axe and if I cleaned it up for him he'd probably not use it or if he did it would just end up rusty and neglected again.
He's one of the millions of people who have a shed full of rusty tools , to them they're just tools that aren't physically impeded by rust.

That’s awesome,is the poll the bowl?

Thank you,and yes,the seeming hammer-poll is the bowl...(Square_peg thank you for enlarging the photos:)

Smoking this thing is pretty inconvenient...Using as a hatchet even more so:)...(in spite of it being bladed/HT'd/and sharpened somewhat at least...(which makes smoking it even less comfortable:)

Fortunately my buddy who it's for doesn't smoke(they don't make injuns nowadays like they used to...:( ),and has a number of decent axes at his disposal.

All in all it's a strange cultural Event. This odd gesture on the part of Anglo-saxons;at least in part kinda "look what WE can do".
The response of the Native people,(indubitably puzzled-but-unexpressed)must've been "whatevever That's supposed to be,it must symbolise status...lets see, how can we hold it where it's not totally awkward...wonder what they actually DO with something like this ...".

Christmas present to myself. It came on a nice but short 21" haft. Fortunately it wasn't hung very well and i was able to remove the handle easily. As it arrived;

I hated to clip this beautiful fawns foot but it had a crack running through the lanyard hole and i knew from experience i would ruin it. So i had to. As it was a couple chips broke off and needed gluing. This haft i bought a little warped(knowingly) from jblyttle(thanks man!) that i straightened.

If you look closely you can see the aforementioned crack.

All hung and perdy!

I steamed it too far the first time then back again too far. Third time was a charm!

I thought this was also a mono steel axe but was pleasantly surprised to find it was forge welded with an overlaid bit. Really hard to get my phone camera to focus so this pic is the best I could get.

I paid a bit for this one but i couldn't be happier with it. Feels great, swings great and in my opinion looks great too! I'll make a sheath for it later this evening. Have a good one!

That is surprising it is an overlaid bit... I do t think I hav ever found a TT that was. It’s a beaut!!!!!

Thank you guys! I am very happy with it. I have another TT with an overlaid bit as well. It's a Kelly Perfect jersey pattern. I didn't think many were that's why I was so surprised to find another one.
I wonder if any of the resident gurus know when TT started using the more modern process? I think it was the 20's when Plumb switched to a mono steel axe. Hopefully someone knows this!
I finished that mask a little while ago.

That looks great, and I think the swell looks even better now. I'm pleased that you were able to get such a nice result with a nice handle that needed some effort. It sure paid off.

Thanks JB! I was able to straighten them all out except one. Not only was the spine bent but the shoulder has a kink in it too. So I need to apply pressure from the shoulder up only. It'll be just like bending a haft for a broad axe only much less. It's tricky to balance the right amount of weight with the correct timing of steam. And then how long to leave the weight on it while it dries. I think I've pretty much got it down so If you get more bent handles please let me know!! I'll take em!

Messed up my post, duplicate.

Those look excellent!

House' octagonalizing service leaves plenty to be desired. You did a good job with those. With House you're better off octagonalizing them yourself.
Thanks Square Peg!

Would you use spokeshaves, both round and flat bottom to octagalize a conventional haft?
