What "Traditional Knife" are ya totin' today?

What a great photo, Tim!:thumbup: Always good to see your (desired by everyone) TC Barlow. :)

Aha thank you Dean, it's certainly going strong :) Great looking array, out of the grouping I really like the stag on your pen knife! Tip bolster(s) ;) look fantastic too.

Surprised to see you let the Oeser have a break Jeff. Good looking 79~

Carrying this one lately. I gotta tell the story.

So about a week before the great Loisiana flood of 2016, jake posts a few knives for sale. This is one of them. I had recently bought a saddle trapper 74 and a 2012 forum knife. I love double blade clip/wharncliff trappers. I had to have the 48 version. Paid up and he sent it off to me. Was schedule to arrive Monday the 15th.

Well, come Monday the 15th, while I was at work (we had evacuated the night before, when they shut down some pumps near me), and my road was about 8' underwater, and my house had a foot of water in it, we'll, the mail couldn't come. I texted jake (jsega) and let him know "hey man, I won't get that knife today, or maybe this week, so don't worry when you see it hasn't been delivered. I have to gut the house and get that straight but I will get it".

After a few texts back and forth, I see the money I paid him show up back in my account followed shortly by "don't you dare send that back or send the knife back". That from a stranger known only via the porch here and texting about bikes, cars and knives, amazing kinship.

Anyway, she's getting used good, jake! But I am fortunate. I'll hang on to that money awhile to make you happy, just in case I need it, but you gonna get it back. A deal is a deal lol.

...

Jake's just that kind of guy! He had told me this story and a bit about the flood and situation you're in. I'm glad you and yours are safe and glad you got that Cobra out though. :O Real sorry to hear about the home but I'm glad rebuilding is underway.

JD%20Sowbelly%2004.jpg

Is that one made by JD Ellis my friend? My guess was SA maker due to their love of those pivots.

Just dashing out the door with these two, have a great weekend everyone

;)
Holy Stovepipe kick! :D

Both Very nice Tim:cool::thumbup:

Thanks Paul :)

Some of my stag for StagUrday. Just look at that butt! :D

The mailman showed up. This is my first Queen. A little larger than expected (not a bad thing). Handle wider than expected (again ok). And, as pretty as I thought.

Thanks, Tim. Well the penknife has three out of four bolsters - and that ain't bad.

Great umm - butt - gives character to the rest of knife.

.

I love reading post such as this. Well done Jake.:thumbup:

Barrett - I glad to see that Im not the only one who still curves the bill on a hat. I just don't understand kids with the bill flat. Great knives as well brother.

Tim- Gorgeous knives and photos.

Family and I had a great day at the zoo. Carried the 73 pictured and my oldest in between her sprints from one animal to another. Time to ice the knees. :D

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Glad you had a fun day Brett and it's good to see you and the family back on the porch!

I don't carry a Traditional these days , so I rarely venture over to this forum anymore .
But today is Fathers-day here in Australia , so in a moment of remembrance I grabbed the knife I inherited from my Father .
So here is what I'm " Totin " today .

Ken

Long week! I will submit no post before its time. Back later, hopefully making more sense.

- GT

Not sure everything I intended to comment on showed up here, since I was having a disagreement with multi quote feature. :grumpy:

TGIF! It's a long weekend for us, and it'll be a good one! I hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

20160901_195226.jpg
What a coincidence Mike. I'm carrying the same knife. Been a while since I dropped this one in my pocket. I gave mine the satin treatment all over. Blade, bolsters and back spring.

Appealing Case sowbellies, Mike and Bob! Mike, your artistic pic is beyond my comprehension!

Two of my favorites. Have a great weekend everyone.

Alan
Beguiling pair, Alan, especially the stag lockback!

The original owner's initials  Nice line-up my friend
...
Double thanks, Jack.

...
Gary - Thanks for that compliment my friend.:) A great knife, that CV Sodbuster, from a super individual, Mr. BigBiscuit!:D

It's going to be a busy Friday, so for the time I working it will be this 79 Workhorse Whittler and for the time I get to not be working, I think I will carry my new 14 TC. Thanks Paul! Hope everyone here has a wonderful and safe holiday weekend.:D

...
You're right about the knife and the individual, Ron! That sleeveboard of yours is a compelling choice!

At 4 1/4" it's definitely not a small knife. I think that it's size is a large part of why this is the first stockman that's really grabbed me. I've tried smaller sizes, from 3" to the 4" 8OT, and they just never seemed to work for me. I bought the first 49 thinking that I'd never carry it, but I really liked the sawcut bone, shield, and worked liners. That night I sharpened up the blades just as something to do while I was sitting by the campfire and in the morning I dropped it in my pocket so that I could admire it throughout the day, knowing that I wouldn't use it. To my surprise I actually did start using it and I haven't looked back since. Here's a picture of the 49 I'm carrying again today with a Zippo for scale:
....
Here's a picture of the Queen City version that first grabbed my attention:
...
Thanks for the follow-up, Cory. That looks like a dandy duo!

Thanks GT! It is a 34OT model I think based on it's size - I'll double check the tang stamp when I get home just to be sure.

I'm finishing the week with this great little S&M mini muskrat. I really need to get some new pics of it instead of recycling the same old ones lol.

jfgr6ui.jpg
Thanks, CB. That's an elegant S&M muskrat; how "mini" is it?

The "new" old Case is trying to push Bob's #85 out of my pocket, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Looks like it could be an epic battle, btmac! That Case has 2 blades going for it, which is a significant advantage IMHO.

Thank you for your kind comments, Gary. Intriguing daily pocket carry. I have that same model, but rarely carry mine. Have you had an opportunity to use all the tools?
...
I'm carrying these two today; a well used Ulster 58OT and my almost daily carry TC.

...
Dean, in the pic I posted, the Minichamp tools I use the most are deployed: scissors, bottle opener/philips driver, file, wharncliffe blade, and pen. The pen is the main reason I carry the Minichamp instead of just a Classic. Still haven't found a good use for that weird picker/scraper/orange peeler. Your carry has exposed me to more new knowledge: I didn't know that Ulster made Old Timers!

That's flawless, Travman!

That Soddie sure is something special, GT.

The shield on my Ulster actually is a little wonky. I know nothing about this knife, honestly. I've tried to find info, but I just can't. It's a 2 blade Ulster Bare head Jack, and the wonky shield makes me think it was a botched rehandle job.

3cqd6Fi.jpg
You're right about my SBJr being special, Shawn; thanks! And thanks for more info about your grand old Ulster Jack; that shield makes it quite unique.

Tim Britton still

Those are a couple of handsome, interesting, and unusual (to me) knives, bonzodog and Chui-888!

Impressive, Bob! I think that's one of my favorite Case models because it's so "un-Case-like", if that makes any sense.

Carrying this one lately. I gotta tell the story.
...

The house is going back together. ...
Great story, SVT! I admire your attitude in the face of the disaster you've been through!

...
I went to the market this morning and picked up these two. Into the pocket they went.

A nice old PAL Blade Co. and a Vic Spartan with wood scales.

ybIDTq3l.jpg

...
Ken K.
Congrats on more magic from your legendary market, Ken! The tip-bolstered PAL is lovely! How do you like the wood Spartan? When I went for groceries today, I noticed that model for 20% off.

Here it is.
Case Peanut Chestnut Bone SS.
Main, everyday and almost only since 07.04.2016. Thanks for the Cult.

20160903-pic1.jpg

And this is the backside. Don't know what does this mean, but looks nice.

20160903-pic2.jpg

And this is addition for some special days or when going into the out.
It was mini trapper SS a year ago, but time and dremel doing their job.

20160903-pic3.jpg
Welcome to The Porch, NeonkA!! Interesting Peanut, and cool modifications to your mini trapper!

In response to the comments about the TL-29. My multi quote is not working for some reason today.
...
GT, If my buddy used that knife as a screwdriver, I would have to take it back and sharpen his screwdriver for him:D
...
I had the 55 in my pocket yesterday.
28792076604_dc0859ee40_b.jpg

I hope y'all are having a great weekend !
:D:D Friends: can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. Man, the covers on your 55 are magnificent! Such rich color!

...
Today I'm carrying a full loadout (think GT on a light day :D). Case XX USA era stag stockman and walnut sheepfoot, my daily TC and an early 20th century Simmons Hardware stag pen knife.

Quite a noble quartet, Dean (I NEVER have a light day, though; I'm a serious toter 24/7/365)! Your stag knives are especially praiseworthy!

...
Today, I'm prepared for any arduous task with my trusty scout. :)
You're a better Scout than I am, r8shell!! I don't think I've used a pocket knife to open a can in over 50 years.

If you know me..... you know what's next for this beauty. ;) :)...
IMG_20131217_215919_zpsaxxwtqig.jpg
A crumpled up brown paper bag underneath it? :D:thumbup:
That cracked me up, Bob!!! I was going to guess that Dee might have made some sort of artistic arrangements for that expanse of white bone on his quality knife!

...
Some of my stag for StagUrday. Just look at that butt! :D

Great family photos from the zoo, Brett! Your hat bill comments amused me; when you get older, you'll find that you've lived through several cycles of fashion trends! I think I remember curved bills, flat bills, curved bills, and now back to flat bills again. (I have some of each hanging in the basement, and wear both styles.)

The knives I had in my kitchen this week were the ever present Opinel #7 and these two:

Today I'm carrying my old faithful Imperial "Providence" marked Barlow. Even with a slight bit of blade wobble it still has a nice snap to it! I enjoy carrying an antique once in a while.

Thanks for your mini-champ explanation. The weird tool you mentioned is allegedly for cuticle pushing.

Ulster was bought out by the owners of Imperial and Schrade. I believe that is the history of the Schrade Old Timer line.

You never have a light knife day!? You must clank when you walk. :D

I'm glad you like my stag knives; those two are my total stag collection!

That Camillus has a pleasantly unusual look to it.

Thanks for your mini-champ explanation. The weird tool you mentioned is allegedly for cuticle pushing.
I've actually used the "cuticle pusher" to push cuticles a few times and also to crush pills a couple of times. The tool I'm talking about is sort of harpoonish, and apparently officially called a "cut and picker blade": http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Cut+and+Picker+Blade

So the "Old Timer" name originated with Ulster, and was acquired by Schrade when they bought out Ulster? Fascinating!

You never have a light knife day!? You must clank when you walk. :D
I do clank a little, although I try to have most of my knives either separated from others or "secured" in knife wallets or little sheaths/slips of various kinds or hanging in a pocket by a lanyard of some kind. I thought that carrying so many knives would give me strong legs, but mostly my legs just seem tired!

I'm glad you like my stag knives; those two are my total stag collection!
They are two fantastic ones, though! Two very different styles of stag, but excellent examples in each case. I have several stag-handled knives (maybe 10-12?) but most of the stag is not what I'd consider first-class, although I love each of them dearly! ;)

That Camillus has a pleasantly unusual look to it.
Thanks, Dean. It's basically a shadow muskrat with carbon fiber covers, but also has that unusual aluminum (?) frame surrounding everything.

I carry a Minichamp on my keyring every day, but never think to post it. The tool you guys are discussing is a tiny guthook for clamshell packaging. :)

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner.

Fetching culinary knives. What is tonight's course? :)

Thanks GT, that 83 Stag was my first GEC. After that I was hooked. The Queen teardrop is a liner lock. Just received today. it's a lot bigger than I thought which I think is a plus. Time will tell.

Alan

Thanks Jake & GT. My wife rolls her eyes as I post pics such as these, but I couldn't find a better back drop for the 73 (even though it is a little hard to see the knife.) She enjoys hearing of post with stories such as that of your generosity Jake.

I tossed the British Army Knife in my pocket today. This thing is such a great looking and useful design. Thanks again, Bob!
