Beautiful lockback, has that impeccable mirror polish. My Dad has a fixed 4" drop point from this same era, I think early 80's? Fit and finish second to none, imo. Did S&W make these in house back then?
Thanks, David. It is my understanding that S&W made their knives from 1974 until 1986, after which Vermont Cutlery made S&W knives. I haven't been able to date mine yet.
I dug out this old user this evening. It was meant to work not to merely sit in a drawer. It looks like this Sodbuster has more than earned a bit of a break though.
You are right about that, Jerry, and thanks for sharing that proud working knife.
Miscellaneous Knife of the Week is a Case chestnut jigged bone teardrop
Peanut-ish Knife of the Week is a Case chestnut jigged bone CV Swayback Jack (thanks, Paul)
Thanks, GT, and you've posted some beauties. The Colt stag canoe, Case Carhartt, that flotilla of Imperial canoes, and now you've started a cavalcade of classy chestnut Cases, teardrop, swayback and otherwise.
Todays carry is a Case Chestnut Bone Teardrop CV
See what I mean, GT? Very nice teardrop, Dave.
Case CV chestnut bone teardrop (I dropped this 3 or 4 times and finally decided not to clean the snow off for the photo)
There are beautiful chestnut Case teardrops falling form the sky. Yours looks extra cool, Dean.
That's a gorgeous old knife, Steve, as was the two-blade Western barlow that you previously posted, though I've learned to not expect any less. I'm going to send you an ugly knife so that you can post it.
I've been carrying a Buck 110 a lot lately - going back down to this is quite a change! I have been stumbling to the right frequently, apparently I've gotten used to the extra weight in my left front pocket. My sense of balance is all off!
That's a very fine small worker, Heath. Thanks for sharing.
A unique and exquisite beauty, Dwight, as was your earlier posted Bose Case coffin jack.
Love it Stuart! The bone is sweeeeet!
Thanks, Nick, and I like that slender yella knife that you've been totin'.
I’ve got a different Case today.
A wonderful classic Case. Your post and a few others of the classic Case have changed my carry choice for today.
Rainy and stormy with some snow between here and there so I carried this Case 6217 Curved Jack with me.
A Case in point! And, yes, a sturdy knife is essential, and a large one can be really essential.
Carrying these two for Black Friday today
I love that S&M spear point, Jack. Nicely done.
And a slightly smaller jack,
No one had carried this 2137 CV jr until about an hour ago. It was untouched in it’s virgin state, waiting for years wrapped in paperwork inside it’s box. The mark side delrin was embossed with the name of a failed Presidential hopeful, which probably explains it’s unused state as well as it’s dirt cheap price.

I bought it to take apart and put new scales on, never having molested a Soddie before, but I cannot. I LOVE both the look and the silky feel of the yellow delrin.
I really like the old Camillus and the Soddie, Jeff, for their honest, simple form and for those smooth covers. I agree that the Case should linger as currently clad. Use the political slogan for a conversation starter ("at least some of his/her campaign funds went to a good use").
Besides, I've NEVER skinned a possum.
You don't know what you are missing, Del.
Any day is a good day for some stag.
Especially if it looks like that, Alan.
Today with one more in stag, my favorite hands...
A staggeringly stylish Parker, senhor.
@Atiger Kudos for that chestnut Case SBJr, Wayne. I have one somewhere, but yours is nicely portrayed and I'll be content to gaze on that one.
@Travman That is a lovey load of lumber and steel that you posted today, Travis. A great pairing and a fine photo.
